Remember when the first VAIO P came out and everyone was like, “I can’t believe it has Vista! That angers me! I am currently outraged!” – something along those lines? Well now it has Windows 7 and comes in four different models ranging in price from $850 to $1900.
The base model features a 1.33GHz Atom CPU, Windows 7 Home Premium, 2GB of RAM, and an 80GB 4200RPM hard drive for $850. Then there’s a model for $1000 that features a 1.6GHz CPU and 64GB SSD, followed by a $1500 model with a 1.86GHz CPU and 128GB SSD. The top of the line offering features Windows 7 Professional, a 2GHz CPU, and 256GB SSD for $1900.

I bet apple’s netbook would be cheaper than this…
I’m in the process of helping my wife get a new laptop and this is being considered… it’s just so expensive for what you get. Is the size and style worth that much for the specs inside? I can’t really justify it, but at the same time, I know her having the ability to carry around something this size in her purse would be a decent lifestyle change.
It depends what your wife needs to do with the laptop. Under Windows 7, even with the cheapest model, you are able to run Microsoft Office, browse the web, email etc. without the thing breaking into a sweat. You can also play 720p videos completely smoothly. If your wife does not require to run intensive 3D applications, edit videos quickly or run multiple instances of Photo Shop, I’d say go for it.
