Own a Zune HD like Devin and I, the two hippest cats here at CrunchGear? Best to connect it to your PC right now so you can upgrade its firmware to version 4.3. Go, now!
Straight from the Zune message board:
Zune HD firmware update: Today we released the v4.3 firmware update for Zune HD players; this update adds support for upcoming 3d games and applications, as well as an auto-suggest feature for better text input, and other minor improvements. Enjoy!
Let it be known that I have installed zero applications on my Zune HD. I didn’t even know applications existed for the thing until a colleague over at Laptop Magazine pointed it out to me at a meeting several weeks ago. Simple apps, like Weather and whatnot.
I think a hands-on would be appropriate when Microsoft launches, I don’t know, a Twitter or Facebook app, if it ever does.

no there are also some big changes. http://www.zjtechlive.com/zune-hd-ready-for-apps-and-games/
It’s ready for Apps, big deal. Wake me when the Apps are actually here.
Here’s the full HD tutorial on how to upgrade your Zune HD firmware:

Because you definitely need a tutorial to connect it and press update.
The changes are a bit bigger as another commenter stated. They’ve fixed essentially all the quirks with the browser as it’s much faster, has predictive typing, and suggests words. The “ready for apps” deal is because they’re waiting until after the 360 releases the new update with Twitter and Facebook to release the Zune versions.
Also a nice little bonus: You can change the user agent of the browser from mobile to desktop.
You mean to tell me that Microsoft is still making Zune HDs! I thought they’d given up trying to sell them by now. I’ve been looking around but I haven’t seen anyone carrying one yet. Of course, in NYC, the choice of music player is always gonna be an Apple product.
Typically that means ’sold out’, douchebag, since mine had to be back-ordered 3 times. Now run along and get back to giving yourself a rectal-massage with your iPod.
yea, the improvements are lots of tweeks.
here and their i notice differences.
theyve added new settings and options.
theyve added support for 3d games
theyve made browser and OS faster.
theyve made new keyboard stretched out in browser
theyve made suggested words in browser keyboard.
anyways not too much but…watever…i think the zune HD is still cool, and its nice to know they still updating little by little.
” I didn’t even know applications existed for the thing until a colleague over at Laptop Magazine pointed it out to me at a meeting several weeks ago.”
Wow…. So the big “APPS” item on your main menu totally escaped your attention? If not, they why else do you think it would be there? To show you that there may one day be an app or two?
…and you write for a gadget blog.
If you don’t have any apps on the device, it doesn’t show up on the menu. Simple as that.
Yes, it does. And when you install the software it flashes apps in your face several times and its right there in the menu on the software twice. You’re a blind fool.
Has anyone figured out how to create playlists on the device or through the software.
This is one heck of a poorly designed product from msft.
Is there a way to segregate songs already on the device into playlists either on device or by using the software
Umm… it is actually pretty simple. The SW controls what is placed onto the device. In your collection (click “collection” on the top left), you have a list on the right side that says “Artists, Genres….” Adding songs to a play list is as simple as selecting the song or album and either right clicking and adding it to a playlist or dragging the item to the icons at the bottom right (ya know, the one that looks like a list) and going from there.
The 2% rule applies here….
On the device, it’s the big ol plus sign, which adds it to the now playing playlist. Making playlists in the Zune software is easy as well.
Ya, it’s pretty simple on the device to save permanent playlists as well. Add whatever songs you want in the playlist to “Now Playing”(long press on the song/album or go to the song and press the big +). Then go to the “Playlists” list and go to now playing. Press the big floppy disk icon to save it and it’ll bring up the keyboard to let you type in the name.
dude dont try to argue with any shit writer from crunchgear, the only way the woud ever talk good about zune updates is if it included and free ipod with it… i fucking hate apple fanboys…
did you read the first sentence
One has to istall and execute to see to it whether its running or not.

You haven’t installed any of the apps? Most of them are crap, but Goo Splat is actually a surprisingly addictive and fun game. I’ve killed untold amounts of time playing that stupid little game.
YEA I HOPE THE NEXT FIRMWARE UPDATE ADDS FLASH !!!
