mw2reviews

So to recap: nobody has been given permission to sell Modern Warfare 2 early. It’s a crazy Internet rumor that has no basis in reality. But it’s happening like whoa. What is based in reality is that the first reviews of the game have started appearing online, and they’re all from UK newspapers. A strange place to see the first reviews of what’s probably going to end up being the biggest game of the year (with all due respect to Assassin’s Creed II).

Both The Daily Telegraph and The Guardian (my favorite British paper, if only for its football coverage) gave the game perfect scores. I’ll quote each review’s final paragraph, because it’s easy and my head still aches like nobody’s business.

The Daily Telegraph:

All told, Modern Warfare 2 crosses into the must-have category of video games effortlessly. It offers an unmatched shooter experience, a compelling story mode, a slick package of mini missions and a multiplayer which is pretty much unparalleled in depth. It’s sure to satisfy the demands of its fan base, and anyone who considers themselves a fan of shooters in general should definitely pick up a copy. It may be debatable as to whether Modern Warfare 2 is objectively the best release of 2009, but it’s certainly the finest game in its genre, as well one of the truly great games of this or indeed any year.

The Guardian:

All in all, MW2 is exactly what fans were expecting. Yes, it carries a hefty price-tag, a shortish single player campaign and only adds a handful of genuinely new elements to the prequel, but you won’t find a more polished, intelligent FPS this year. For non-stop action, superior AI and perfectly balanced weapons, it’s a worthy chart-topper that hammers a nail into any hope of the COD franchise returning to its WW2 roots anytime short of the next round of console upgrades. And, on this evidence, you won’t find too many complaints about that.

Sounds to me that if you’re even remotely a fan of the FPS genre, then you’ll probably at least like the game.

Look for more exciting reviews to hit the Web in the coming hours.

  • Actually, gamestop has sold copies to pre-order holders since last Friday

  • Getting ready for the lines at Best Buy tonight…can’t wait to spend countless days and nights playing the co-workers online…PWN463!!!

  • If the game is already boxed and shipped and stores have it, why not just sell it and get it started? What is magical about nov 10th? as opposed to people getting it last week or even before that? honestly.. lol

  • Early reviews are always beyond generous. This game will get massively overrated reviews and everyone will claim it’s the best game ever for the first couple weeks. Later people will think back on how it was just a pretty cool game and far from perfect.

I am against the massacare thing but otherwise this game is seriously the best thing I have ever seen in an action game. Me and my friend was in shock the whole way through, really stunning and smooth on 1080p.

I finnished the campain already, really a epic game and totally destroys all other FPS before it.

Think FPS witht he smoothness and action of Sega’s Time Crysis.

If you have a 120hz TV, set it to high and this thing is super flawless.

If you would have told me this was being played on the next gen Xbox 720 I would have easily believed it.

    Halo is deaded.

  • Well very nice game to look at music sucks lol but was disapointed on how short it really is looking forward to playing online as usual

  • Modern warfare 2 is gonna be awesome so be quiet cod haters these guys are professional not some noobs like you.

  • Nov 10 is the marine corps birthday, that is why the game is to be released on that date….

  • amazon.com sent me an e-mail this morning stating that my copy of MW2 has shipped. Fingers crossed that I get it tomorrow.

  • My username is DJ Yaz on the PSN, send me a friend request and avoid being on the business end of my red dot sight.

  • Man im geting the game when i get off work and i can’t wait to put that little red dot on someones head tonight!!! lol
If anybody wants to play my gamertag for the 360 is speedybigeasy

  • I personally am extremely disappointed in the looks and quality of the guns and the crappy spawn points..I was spawned right between enemy fire and was killed before I moved..Twice in 1hour of play.

Other than that they did a ok job…I still think cod4 is better..Imo.

  • Are there any single player only people who are excited for this game? Why don’t they just take the most logical step and make it online only? There’s little-no value in the campaign mode of this game. I beat it in 4 hours. The single player campaign is laughable and with every iteration gets progressively worse.

Crysis, Bordelands, S.T.A.L.K.E.R, Fallout 3, Bioshock.

    Now THOSE are shooters.

    • I live for the story in games as opposed to the online feel of it. Modern warfare did not disapoint at all with its campaign and i doubt modern warfare 2 will. yes its a short story, 5 to 6 hours average. but thats fine. as long as the AI is good and the story pans out I will be satisfied. I get this game in 3 hours. Expect my opinion on how it turned out later.

  • I love both the first and this new one as well as the entire COD series. I did feel a bit uncomfortable during the massacre sequence and decided to just walk with the other terrorists who were doing the shooting but chose not to shoot myself. I have to give the creators one thing though. They didn’t paint a rosey picture of how people that commit those acts really are. It was ugly. Aside from that, yes this is primarily for online play. I also beat the campaign in 4 hours. The story was interesting but overall it didn’t live up to the hype. Campaign 6/10, Online 10/10
