Hold your horses, partner, because an Electronic Entertainment Design and Research analyst has said that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will well outsell Modern Warfare 2 when it’s all said and done.
There’s an important distinction to make: what we’re talking about is eventual sales. What may happen is that Modern Warfare 2 could well end up the best-selling game of the year, but it won’t necessarily be the best-selling game released in 2009. New Super Mario Bros. Wii just might have longer longevity than its first-person shooter competition.
Does this matter to you and I, really? Eh, no. Who cares what game outsells what? Don’t let sales numbers get in your way of enjoying whatever you play.
It’s expected that the new Mario game will sell 15 million units over its lifetime. That new Mario games (well, not counting smaller titles like Mario Learns to Cook or whatever) are so rare, compared to Activision’s ability to publish Call of Duty after Call of Duty suggests that there’s not enough time for the shooters to get a foothold, as it were.
Of course, this is all speculation designed to help your day go by a little faster. Hopefully I have achieved my objective.

Is the most high quality, top selling franchise in video gaming history. Still, you doubt Mario’s ability to outsell other games? It’s almost certain that New Super Mario Bros. Wii will outsell MW2 on a single platform. But, on all the platforms combined, there’s still a somewhat fair chance it will best MW2. It definitely will beat CoD6 in the long run. Mario games tend to do that.

I think this will be the same scenario as when GTA IV and Mario Kart wii released. GTA IV had a faster start, but Mario Kart wii had/still has better legs. Mario kart wii has now sold over 18 million copies. I think new super mario bros. wii will do the same.

The 360 has so far brought us mostly derivative works from the PC era and XBOX/GC/PS2 era. The wii at least has brought innovative controls for consoles if nothing else. In the end, what hooks people is gameplay or story not graphics. So it is ignorant point of view to claim people are retarded for owning wiis. There prob is just as many playable games if you would get off you high horse and play something other than an action game/fps.

Well, fps is a relatively small genre and even with it’s recent growth I wouldn’t be shocked to see a Mario game outsell an fps…Nintendo annihilate everyone in sales. 40m for smb, 10m for smb2, 20m for smb3, it’s gonna be a close run thing. If mw2 comes out on top, as a console fps, I’d be surprised.

Over the course of its lifetime, it would be plausible for NSMBWii to outsell Modern Warfar 2, no question about it. The Wii has an installed base of over 50 million. If a quarter of those individuals purchase a copy of the game, then you have sold 12 million copies.
Firstly Mario is the biggest selling franchise of games in the world, and secondly this is one of the best mario games created. There is no comparison, New Super Mario Bros Wii will tower over Call of Duty Moder Warfare 2.
