Remember that hubbub a few weeks back about Seth MacFarlane’s Family Guy advertising Windows 7? But the show was apparently deemed to raunchy so Microsoft replaced Family Guy with Warner Bros. Well, did you catch last night’s episode? There was a Family Guy segment that certainly looked like an advertisement and was then followed by a regular Windows 7 commercial. Check out the video after the jump. It makes you wonder if there is more to come and the deal isn’t dead after all.

Yup. I really want to use an OS a fat blubbering cartoon blob uses as well. Good ad, Microsoft.
Cuz iTunes is super sleek and streamlined, amirite?
What does his comment have to do with iTunes? If you are attempting to refer to the alternative to Windows that would be Mac OS or Linux.
“So simple a caveman could do it?”
i’m guessing you also didn’t like the dancing in the Microsoft stores, and I’m also guessing you won’t like anything that Microsoft does. I thought the cool thing to do nowadays was have an open mind..
I’m sorry man, but the dancing in the Microsoft store was re-fucking-diculous. On the other hand, the ad embedded above is actually the most decent Windows ad I’ve seen.
At least it wasn’t trying to hock Jerry Seinfeld at me; or trying to convince me to throw an incredibly lame “Windows Party”. Seriously; are they TRYING to make losers out of people?
Did you ATTEND one of those “lame” Windows 7 parties? I did, and it was anything but lame. :)
I was going to say “who cares if they’re marketing a product – product placement is nothing new. If it’s funny, then it doesn’t matter if they’re corporate shills.”
Then I watched the clips. they’re awful. What a bunch of corporate shills!
This clip was pretty funny:

Family Guy is awful, full-stop.
That is why this ad is awful.
they also showed the beach ball delay that the Mac OS uses. very sly FG and MS, very sly…
ah yea the less subtle rainbow ball joke was awesome… wait for it… lol
Later in the episode they had a OSX spinning beach ball that paused a scene.
I really don’t understand the concept behind these Windows 7 commercials. None of them have ever made me think – “Boy this OS must be pretty sweet” – All they make me think is….why don’t they hire people who I want to be like. Maybe I’m not their target market and they’re going after the Baby Boomers. Either way, in 2010 Generation Y will out number the baby boomers and in 2025 (If 2012 isn’t real) Microsoft may find itself curled up in a ball wondering where all the baby boomers went.
There is a spot now with a cute French girl, which isn’t me, but at least she’s someone I can identify with. But however you slice it, I still spell Windows “W-I-N-D-O-Z-E”
you don’t understand the concept, but you understand Justin Long and his commercials? You mean you understand the whole, ‘I’m cooler than you because I spent more money than you’?
If it goes well with the storyline and is well played out, good for them.
Really Microsoft needs as much advertising as possible with It’s FAIL of user-ability with Windows Vista. I have used Windows 7 RC and found it quite promising. But I’m still sour that Microsoft had to re-write their initial OS to correct their mistakes with vista; then there was Windows born.
They never pulled the family guy sponsorship slots.
Just the sponsorship of the live show.
They also had the show pause while the Mac colorful spinning thing came out…
What the hell? At least pick an actor I can sympathize with, not some gelatinous Joe Pesci soundalike who makes me want to ram a pencil through my ears. Worst marketing dept ever.
this ad was created by crispin porter, one of the best ad agencies in the world
It sure does make you wonder. *wonder*
Apple users,
Don’t take Windows 7 as an insult to your cult-like group.
If people like Windows better, let them have Windows.
Best,
Andrew
I’m a PC.
O hell yeah!!! you are a PC :p
Great job targeting the ad to the segment. If you liked Family Guy (and were watching the show) this was great. If you don’t like (and weren’t watching) then it wasn’t meant for you anyway. If they plaid this during the Superbowl, I may question their logic, but in this case they had the right ad for the right market.
I fully agree. The cutaway to the reenactment (with a fit, in shape version of that guy) was a pretty good Family Guy-ish touch, too.
“deemed TOO raunchy”
Best. Ad. Ever.
The kid in the background is a friend of a friend of mine. My friend was telling me about this ad a couple days ago in school. Lol
In case people didn’t realize, he’s saying “Windows 7 was my idea” at the end.
SETH MCFARLANE TAKES THE CORPORATE COCK AND LOVES IT
Is that a Windows or a Vaio ad ?!
haha a VAIO add of corse :), LAME add

So the guy in the commercial is supposed to be a real live “babbling fat blob”?
I think tihs is a great idea. The show is really retarded
Weird that that part of the spelling bee clip did not air in Canada.
Windows 7 is here? I’m still stuck on Window 98′s Weezer’s Buddy Holly. WHY THAT song in particular is not on Rock Band 2 DLC has me stumped, but QUEEN is AWESOME!… Wait, this was about Windows 7 right? I’m lost. I guess I’ll wait until I get an OS that allows me to choose WHAT I want to do and not use my resources to do other things. “What do you want to do today?” Answer: “View photos and listen to music or web access”. In other words “My computer boots only the programs needs to view photos and listen to MP3 music with no video RAM consumption on graphics or network connection. Just the basics, and NOT Safe Mode. Or “What do I want to do to today?” Answer: “I’m working on a multimedia website full of html, javascript, flash and quicktime video, the client is hounding me. Let’s Move It!” It other words “Computer is fully loaded with use of all resources, video, sound and network connection to upload to live server to test.” Windows 7 sounds great like Win98, but does it taste great? I guess I should also add, does it support Full Retail Adobe Products before the CS era (Photoshop 7, GoLive CS2, Premiere 2.0, Audution 2.0) with little hinderences? As for Famly Guy “Windows Lite IS MY idea.” I HATE memory hogs that have no reason to hog memory!
