This little controller is butt-ugly and crude, but I still want one really bad. Maybe Santa will bring me one.
Right now there isn’t many good ways to control a PC from your couch. Full size keyboards are a pain, standard mice are awkward, and those waving-through-the-air gyro mice are overrated. This little controller with a touchpad up top and a keyboard on the bottom seems to have just about everything I need for my media center PC. It’s controlled via a wireless USB dongle and only costs $62 at USB Geek. Forget Santa, I can’t wait that long. Sold.

My ipod touch works very nicely for me – there are good remotes for both boxee and itunes, and a trackpad-like remote mouse app for everything else. Plus, the itunes remote is usable without an active display, so I can play music without having to fire up the projector.
(and it can send wake-on-LAN packets too, which saves me from the terrible chore of walking over to the HTPC to wake it up)
$62 ???
I bought this fine piece of Chinese craftsmanship off eBay – $20.
I run my Ubuntu HTPC with it. The keyboard layout is a little bit queer (arrow keys are not grouped together)… but for battery life, USB recharging, and the fact that it requires no special driver are excellent – so I can live with it.
It’s the best $20 I have spent in quite a while.
Can you tell me who the seller was on eBay ? I’d like to get one at that price. Was unsuccessful searching.
Thanks
I also bought one of these. Cramped, yes, but an awesome device. I’m astounded by the range. I went thru several wireless HTPC kbd/mouse setups before landing on this one.
Although it’s a bit more pricey, the Logitech Dinovo Mini has been perfect for me. Battery life is great, keyboard is quite usable, and the media buttons/functions worked out of the box with Ubuntu. Plus it’s a sexy piece of gear I don’t mind having out on the coffee table, I highly recommend it.
I still love my logitech dinovo mini, my only gripe is no F1, F2, etc.
I’m with you guys. The logitech dinovo mini beats this by a mile.
Yeh just missing the F key to get into bios, but how often do we do that anyway?
It is really very slick and loaded with all the common functions used by HTPC users. I would have made a few of the functions that require the function button (delete, forward) to be pressed directly, but for the most part it is fully functional as a keyboard, mouse and full media remote!
Love that it is bluetooth too because I can be sprawled any way I want on the couch and hold it any way I want and it works. It’s really pretty too and the keys are much larger than these.
Only thing is I do need to pull out the battery and re-install now and then when it disconnects or goes to all caps (known issues) but it’s easy enough to do and it re-connects instantly.

$40.
Either I was wrong or the price went up …
Not, the price keeps US$40 but it is US$45 after including shipping fee US$5
I see the price of around US25 as well at ebay but that one is cheating. It’s shiping cost is US25. That type of ebay seller, don’t trust them and not buy from them. Don’t know whether is real seller or not. Careful !!!
