Hey, guys. I, John Biggs, will be in Hong Kong and Guangdong next week (November 30-December 5) to visit some folks and would love to meet up with Web 2.0 and gadget purveyors in mother China. If you would like to chat, drop me a line at john @ crunchgear.com and let me know what’s up. I’m thinking about doing an informal meet-up on Thursday so advice on places to meet in Hong Kong are welcome.
Look forward to hearing from you all and “Ni Hao!”

It’s Guangdong not *dog.
你好广东
John: it’s GuangDONG
Hi John,
I lived there for a few months this year.
Be sure to check out Web Wednesday, a monthly gathering of tech. Event on Dec 2nd.
http://www.webwednesday.hk/
Feel free to contact me.
Conclusion: Hong Kong has some passionate innovators but they are hidden. Most leverage the budget labor source such as coders in China lead by entrepreneurs such as American Born Chinese.
feel free to contact me.

Not too many innovative Web 2.0 companies in HK alas – and sadly not much of a vibrant community. Web development is focused on providing basic web building services to companies.
Real pity this and I hope it changes.
I’m in Sydney for Dec alas….
Oh hilarious, I’m out here on vacation at the moment. I probably can’t get away from family, but best wishes!
You have used that photo of China / Hong Kong from Flickr without citing the original photgrapher. Bad dog, bad! You should know better than that, Crunchgear! I have seen that picture hundreds of times as one of the best from Flickr, and it’s in my favorites. Yes, its cool and its in HDR, but still, you and your staff should know better than that. Bad dog, no bone for you.
You are a dog too.. you idddiot… don’t you know that dog is one of the major insults to any Chinese…
Also your post is a disgrace by itself..
Webmoblink has launched its first-to-market automated service for advertisers, publishers and ad agencies, in the Chinese market. The company chose as its launching pad the industry event Mobile Marketing Insights 2009, which took place in Shanghai on October 22. Webmoblink demonstrated its firm commitment to the market by sponsoring the event, in support of the Chinese mobile industry.
Web and mobile ad network Webmoblink launches in China.
“We are very excited to be introducing our service in China, and to be able to offer our advanced targeting and statistical analysis tools to the Chinese marketing community,” stated Webmoblink founder and CEO, Carlos Taboada. “Webmoblink is truly a global service with global reach, and our entry into China expands even further the access we provide our customers to reach more than 1.5 billion Internet users and 4.0 billion mobile phone users around the globe.”
I don’t waste my time in shady ad networks. I personally rather invest my money on something that has been proven to work like Google and Admob.
John, meet me and my friends at 183 Queen’s Road East, Wanchai, on Wednesday at 6:00 PM for some excellent dog meat. You come to the far east, you must experience dog meat delicacy. The dog meat restaurant isn’t at this address. It is down the street. However, let’s meet here as this is the Hopewell Centre, an easy to find landmark. Call me at 2826-9903.
Reymund,
I’ve been in HK for 9 months and I’ve yet to have any dog meat. Count me in :)

I hope you are trolling cos im sure the police would love to give u a visit as dog meat is illegal in HK.
你好,呵呵。欢迎来到中国。
Hi John, let me second the recommendation for you to attend Web Wednesday in HK. Somewhere between 100-200 show up for this on a regular basis and Napoleon Biggs normally ropes in some interesting speakers. This time the guest is Christian Cadeo of AdMob, event page is here: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=125466&id=525733121&ref=nf#/event.php?eid=185766067114&index=1
NO fair!! I only just went back to uk for Christmas and NOW we get a meet up in HK??
I hate you jb
There’s also a design conference in HK this week that I will be attending.

Not exactly a Web 2.0 event – but perhaps relevant for some. I’m in on the meet-up once it gels. Not excited about the dog meat plan though.
get a wifi pass from PCCW…hotspots cover the entire city!
…almost everywhere
$HK20 for a month pass from 7-eleven
Or a 3HK prepaid 3G data SIM card.
Hi John,
Good to hear that you are coming to China! China rocks to be honest. I’m an entrepeneur focussing on Enterprise 2.0, however we are based in Chengdu (which is basically the other side of China). Maybe when you have the time you can come to Chengdu (it’s a 3 hours flight) but otherwise I welcome you gladly to “Silicon Valley” in China: Chengdu!
Hugo
Nexocial
Silicon Valley of China is Dalian…
1. Who are you?
2. I have just launched the first mobile based recruitment advertising platform in China, so could be interesting to meet. My first client is a major US corporation looking to use our platform to hire 1,000+ people.
Best
PS
No dog restaurants in Hong Kong. You have to cross the border for that.
Many great reataurants though.
Hi~
Nice to Meet you! would u check your email?
Hi John,
I just sent you an Email, please take a look and consider the place for meet-up I recommended.
If that’s possible I could arrange the meet-up and invite other startups in Hong Kong.
Thanks,
Benjamin Law
Sounds like fun. Wish we could be there to join you.

If you want to go for tech related gear around Hong Kong, check out Sham Shui Po. The Golden Computer Centre has some of the cheapest goods on the planet, and among the laptops and fake cell phones (that work, and have double SIM card slots) you can always find yourself a deal.
If you want a more western approach to life, check out the Central district — A western favorite, “The Flying Pan” is a great breakfast restaurant, and its open 24 hours. Lan Kwai Fong is also great, and is a watering hole where many other westerners hang (and hey, you’re not driving. Take the MTR!).
Hi, I’m part of a local web startup (www.sampiplan.com).
Would enjoy to meet up, perhaps the bar on top of the Discovery Bay pier in Central. Cheap beer, plenty of seating, and harbour view: http://bit.ly/6JD0rX
Cheers,
Jonathan

Hi John,
Good to hear that you’re coming to China as you’ll find out that the country has been developing and expanding rapidly in the technology industry. I’m sure you’ll enjoy your stay here. I just sent you an email, take a look and see if you want to meet up to discuss the China market.
-Jack
John, it is great to hear you are coming Hong Kong.
I got an email to you, inviting you,,
and probably I can join you up on Wed or Thurs..
Cheers
Hey John,
Am an avid reader of TechCrunch and your articles and would love to meet up. I am based out of Guangzhou in Guangdong (about 2hrs up from Hong Kong. 45 min from Shenzhen.). I run a Web2.0 Dev / Digital Marketing Agency here in Guangzhou with our HQ in London [www.fabriqate.com] and have a few other businesses out here as well as a restaurant [www.vaastucuisine.com].
Would love to meet up and show you the Web Space here in Guangzhou / Southern China and give you a tour of some of the largest electronic markets in town.
Am also organizing a TEDxGuangzhou event this Saturday (December 5th) and will arrange a Press & Media pass for you if you are able to stay an extra day. [www.tedxguangzhou.com]. Flyer is here:
