There’s almost a comedy about this next story: Australia has banned another video game because it’s too violent. (What is it with Australia and banning violent video games?) The game is CrimeCraft, and it has been refused classification by the ratings board down there.
The game was refused classification because “there is insufficient delineation between the ‘fictional drugs’ available in game and real-world proscribed drugs.”
In other words, the in-game drugs aren’t “fake enough” for the Australian Classification Board.
CrimeCraft is sort of an FPS MMO.
You’ll recall that this same board refused classification for several other games, including Left 4 Dead 2 and Risen.
No, I’ve never heard of Risen.
I wonder, what is it about this board that makes it so ornery? You never hear about the ESRB refusing to rate a game here in the U.S.

Not quite correct. It is not banned rather it is “refused clasification”, not the boards fault. Basically the highest rating in Australia is for computer games is MA (15+). The board has guidlines that it uses to determine the clasification level. But as there is no a clasfication avaliable above MA for adult titles the board is unable to set a rating. And has to refuse clasification, as it is not possible to release a title without a clasification this mean that the title falls into a limbo effectively “banning” the title from release in Australis, There is a push to add a new clasification rating for adult titles, however it is hindered by one or two extreme religious right wing politicians who believe that computer games are for children only.
Doesn’t really matter. Crime Craft sucks anyway.

Have to say that while this time it doesn’t effect me Im still pissed off. Getting pretty fed up with Atkinson. Damn our Government to all hell. This AND our reserve bank raising interest at Christmas?! What is Australia coming to. Swear to god our government is made of convicts.
