Hats off, gentleman — hats off. I can say with certainty that this is the best roller bag ever made. Why this particular bit of genius hasn’t caught on, I can’t imagine. Possibly because, like those who ride the accursed Segway, riders of this contraption would give off a certain “punch me” vibe. And yet, one can’t entirely suppress the feeling of wanting to switch places with them, if only for a moment. Shameful, but understandable.
The Trolley Scooter from Samsonite und Micro Mobility is the perfect tool for bloggers like myself who, at trade shows like CES, must walk miles (miles!) with packs full of gear just to bring you guys the freshest news. I’d rather scoot. I’d rather scoot than do most things, to be perfectly honest.
No price is given and I can’t find it on Micro Mobility’s site, but I would ballpark its cost at around 100€ — $120 or thereabouts.

cool bag, looks like fun. I wonder if you could get a ticket for using it in an airport?
that bags just rocks !!
I hope they designed and built that for a class and didn’t waste their adult lives and money making something that no one will use.
It’s like Back to the Future, in the future!

This is awesome, buy me one
I would buy one of those in a hearbeat. Very simple design, but very functional. As for the “punch-me vibe” I don’t think that would be much of a problem – first, it’s a lot less douchey than a Segway, since it isn’t meant to replace plain old walking with a $5000 device. Second, if there were any inclination to punch, think it would be more out of envy than anything, and the people who may want to punch a rider of one of these would be left in the dust on any concourse.
OMG I am serious, if this is really released I will have it. No question, imagine it in Logan or LAX between terminals and a tight connect. Clear the track. I would put a cool retro bicycle bell on it. Chickapow!!!
I can even use it to buy some groceries at 711. A very practical and eco-friendly product!
love it! good for barging slow people out of the way too… :-)
While this is a really neat idea the execution leaves a lot to be desired. The idea that you can turn this into a scooter for getting around the airport faster is great but honestly this holds less then the average backpack.
I could see this being a good thing for kids in school who have to cart around a bunch of books but for a traveler that makes their way through airports on a regular basis, this is kinda limiting.
Come to think of it i bet schools wouldn’t approve of this most likely cause it could be seen a hazard and a legal liability of some sort.
If this was larger and could accommodate more then a laptop a pair of shoes and a couple shirts it would be worth it but til then i just don’t see this as a viable option for travelers.
Don’t be a wimp. This thing is awesome and I would totally use it all the time. I would use it at school, and if I hurt myself it’s my own fault. I would use it in the airport, and pack light and maybe bring a second light bag. This thing rules and anybody who thinks otherwise is gonna left in the dust. Scooter dust.
i’d get this! instead of having to wait for the bus to take me to the off-site parking lot, i’d just scoot over with this and save time. i wouldn’t use it inside the airport though but outside to get around.
According to the Elle press release on the micro.ms site, the cost will be around €300 ($440 USD). Basically the top end scooter (€120) + low end hard-shell Samsonite luggage (€180)… seems about right.
I currently use a K2 scooter from micro.ms and when travelling, I often hang my backpack on the front rod. This design is basically the same concept, but with a permanent luggage attached to a K2-like scooter.
My combination (K2+backpack) works pretty well, except two nuisances: 1) the backpack cannot be firmly attached to the steering rod, hence it starts swinging all the time, and I must stop to fix it every now and then; and 2) the K2 turning radius is pretty big, so it is hard to corner with it while walking.
Looking forward to this product, hopefully it will be better than the current K2+backpack combo.

It works well, except that a) the backpack cannot be firmly attached to the rod, so it starts swinging from time to time, and b) the turning radius of the K2 is too big, making maneuvring while walking tedious.
Looking forward to this product.
