The folks over at Astro Gaming wanted to share some holiday cheer and are giving us one of their new Astro A40 BxR SE Audio Systems to hand out to one lucky CrunchGear enthusiast. The new BxR system comes with a headset, in either red, blue or military green (we’re giving the green one away), and a MixAmp.
This headset comes with 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound, allowing you to hear everything around you in any game that supports it, and a noise-canceling microphone. Additionally, you can add your own soundtrack to any game by connecting your MP3 player to the A40 MixAmp. The game and voice balance integrated into the MixAmp also lets you adjust the volume levels of each to your liking.
The BxR Special Edition sound system has a significant upgrade from their predecessor the Astro A40’s. The MixAmp has a new USB adapter that will work seamlessly with the PS3 (previously it worked solely with the Xbox 360, and the PS3 needed an extra adapter).
I have a pair of these and honestly can’t think of gaming without them. They improve the gaming experience exponentially.

I have Sennheiser HD 555’s, but I’ve really wanted to get some A40s for gaming. I would want to play Halo 3, Bioshock, Team Fortress 2, Counter Strike: Source and listen to music with them!
This would be very beneficial to me while playing Halo 3 and Modern Warfare 2 on GameBattles and at future events. I tried them first out at Columbus ‘09 and loved them, however I don’t have the money to buy Astros with event costs etc….. so this would be completely awesome to get one of these!

MAN i would love these, i have a wirless headset that lasts for about 30 minuts on full charge… but id be playin everying. from wow to Call of Duty modern warfair 2, Halo 3, Need for speed, ( that would sound amazing!, forzaa 3, Gears 2, gta 4, and alot of my pc games. my list would never end.

Honestly, I would love to play Left 4 Dead 2 with it just for the sole fact that you’ll be walking around with the witch crying.. then a teammate spooks her, but you realize she’s coming after you. You then hear the rush of her scream fill your ear canals, and you get bloody scared because you know which way she is coming, but there is absolutely nothing you can do about it.. Instant down.
Or.. Bioshock. That game had fantastic sounds. I can hear the Splicers now.. “OH! DID I SCARE YOU?! YEAH, YOU BETTER RUN! *SCREEEEEEECH*”
Actually if you have the Katana you can take the witch down with a swipe. The Katana is the new “crowning” weapon for the witch. Its pretty sweet!

I would love to win these. They would help me so much in Halo 3, Modern Warfare 2 and Left 4 Dead 2. At the moment I don’t even have sound on my TV. The speakers broke last week :(

One other thing, the design of these is really nice. I’m wondering however if they ear protectors are replaceable with new cushions if the need arose?
I’d play Dragon Age Origins, and the upcoming Mass Effect 2. Probably a bit of Fallout 3 in between.

Games with lots of guns and goons like my son’s Resistance 2 which I tried several times already (while he was in school). But the Astro A40 BxR SE Audio Systems which comes with 5.1 Dolby Digital Sound (which I think will enable me to hear even the heart beat of Lt. Nathan Hale), and its feature that lets me add my favorite 80’s bands’ MP3 music can make the most quiet game like fishing (which my wife bought for me) sound like a rock concert. This gadget is a MUST to all serious gamers and late bloomers like me hahahaha!

Oh my goodness those headphones look sweet. I would use them with pretty much all of my games, but I’d especially appreciate them with Modern Warfare 2, Left 4 dead 2, and last but certainly the best: Team Fortress 2! Booya!

I think I’ll first fire up some Wasteland, then maybe break out the TI99 for some Hunt the Wumpus.
If I’m feeling really froggy I might go for some Pole Position so I can get that realistic sensation of racing past all those cars in super surround sound.

oh my god, I could finally play modern warfare 2 without getting killed from behind every other second (furthermore the noise canc. mic would help me scream the hell out of the annoying blabbering 12 year olds). And of course listen to the utterly funny italian accent of ser ezio in assasins creed 2.

You guys are totally overlooking playing NES, SNES, SEGA… I’m just wondering how cool sounds like getting a coin or 1up sound, just think how detailed the sounds are. I think this might be awesome to watch even TV or a Movie with. Xbox, PS3, and PC gaming would probably sound the best and take full advantage of the headphones games like Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2 and all the other game mentioned above.
I would break out FEAR. Turn up the sound and turn out the lights. oh yeah that game had me freeking out
We are getting the boys a ps3 for christmas. We don’t have any games picked out yet but will probably buy assassin’s creed. My oldest would love to add his own music colletion to games. He would also like to use these with his keyboard, and guitar with amp. I would love for his music to not be so loud.
