This week we’re going to go a little crazy. We’ll still have daily giveaways but we’re going to offer you the chance to totally go nuts and win a SMART Board 685ix short throw magical whiteboard with installation included. What’s that you say? What will I do with a whiteboard? Good question!
Heck if I know, but it’s way cool. But here’s a short description:
Experience interactivity like never before with the SMART Board 685ix interactive whiteboard system. As the world’s first ultra-short throw interactive whiteboard system, the 685ix combines an ultra-short-throw projector with a widescreen interactive whiteboard. The 685ix offers you unparalleled image quality, a precise touch experience and a large interactive surface for teaching and learning.
The system’s ultra-short-throw projector, the UX60, virtually eliminates shadows, glare and distracting projector light. It is positioned directly above the interactive whiteboard, projecting crisp, bright images from only 12″ (30.5 cm) away. And because the 685ix’s interactive whiteboard is widescreen, it has 20% more working space than a standard board.
Presumably this is good for your office or school, so feel free to enter on behalf of those institutions. There are a few basic rules:
* SMART will ship a Board to the winner’s school or business, and will be responsible for shipping, installation, and warranty issues, in accordance with all applicable laws. SMART will ship the Board within seven days of confirmation of the winner’s contact information.
The contest prize provided by SMART includes:
* One Board with SMART Notebook software;
* On-site professional installation services for the Board; and
* Shipping to any location in Canada or the United States.
* Eligibility – The contest is open to Canadian and US residents only. Participants must enter on behalf of their Canadian or US business or educational institution and the prize will be awarded to the business or institution, not the individual.
* The retail value of the Board is $5,999 USD.
Special note: This is USA/Canada only. Sorry, Paraguay!
How do you win? Comment on five upcoming SMART Board contest posts, including this one. This means we will post one reminder per day. You will have to comment on all five. Remember to check back here every day. We won’t post on TechCrunch every day. On Friday we will check to see all entrants who entered five times and pick one at random. Easy enough? OK! Get cracking!
UPDATE – We have a winner! Lori won after submitting five comments on each of the five days. Thanks for playing!

This would be something great to win for a non-profit or startup.
Currenty working on 3 startups and 5 groups at school. Desperately need this for rapid idea sharing, productive meetings, and 3am digital hangman.
Pleaseeeee help!
Heck, I’d love this just for use at home (in addition to my startup)!
I’ve used these at my parent’s school (mom’s a teacher) and at the school I used to teach at in Hanoi (different brand though).
there are 1000+ comments?? it’s not even worth it, i’m not even going to comment.
Me want one
I’ve also tried other interactive white boards, but Smartboards are the best.
My daughter’s school would be well served with this.
All classrooms in our school district have SMART Boards. I couldn’t teach without one!
that’s where we are at as well. That is why I would love to donate it to a school who is not as fortunate as ours.
The way I teach, and the way my students learn, has been completely revolutionized because of the smart board. Students who never would participate are volunteering to come up and manipulate objects and explore mathematical concepts. I love it!
I want one in our office! :)
I would like to help our teachers get equal access to SBs.
How incredibly timely. Our school is looking right now about getting a white board!
There is alot of great work being done by teachers out there as they integrate SMART technology into their classrooms! – Louise
Can’t wait until all of our teachers can have smartboards. I have one in the library and love it. Only myself, a third grade teacher and the music teacher have one.
I’ve used an older model in when teaching technology to 4th and 5th graders. I would love to have one when teaching my music classes.
I wish our district could afford to put one in every classroom. I thought our school was doing good by having them in half of the classrooms.
Bottom line if you put SMART against Promethean in a classroom… Promethean will win if Teachers are making the choice. Promethean is designed for the classroom. Now looking for a cheap electronic whiteboard for your business is another thing… go with SMART.
I haven’t touched a piece of chalk in 3 years.
All schools should have one! It has put teaching in a whole new light!!!! The children love it and love to participate when the smartboard is going!!!! I would love a new one in my room that is big enough to see!
Smartboards and trained users can change the way our students today learn and use information!
I can just think about how much my daughter used to be engaged when just coming in to visit my class( She is 5) If and only if her teachers at her school engaged her like I do with my students.
My 6-year old granddaughter LOVES to visit my classroom to play with an older version of the SMARTBoard. I would love to have one that mounts on the wall to leave more classroom space for learners being engaged.
I agree, this would be a great Christmas gift for a school who can not afford one. I know this would benefit my school and attract new students who look for schools that provide dynamic instructional tools like a Smart Board to differentiate instruction.
It is great.
Did you say SMART Board? It was truly LOVE at first touch for me!
This would certainly enhance the possibilities for teaching in the library media center!
There are so many uses for media centers. I collaborated with 14 media specialists this morning on ways to incorporate Bloom’s and multiple learning styles into lessons that engage and challenge all learners.
Me too. I knew I was in love with the Smart Board with just one touch.
My college has a few Smartboards. We love the ones that we have but we need more. This one looks amazing!!
I agree whole-heartedly.
I agree, love at first touch!!!
We were just starting to look at these new boards to see if we’d like to begin ordering them instead of our regular SMART boards! How cool would it be to win one and actually have the opportunity to start using it before making a decision!
SMART Boards have changed how I teach!!!!
I seriously couldn’t teach without one. Every lesson I read or see, I immediatly “translate” into a SMART lesson that can address multiple learning styles.
Exactly my thoughts.
They are so easy to learn on and the children think they are sooooo cool.
Hi Lori Reed! I hope one of us is the winner!!!
I hope so too.
Oh, my! I’d love to have one in my art room! I used to sub in a fortunate school district; they have SMART Boards in nearly every classroom… I loved them. Now I have my own classroom (different district) and I really want one!!!
I agree. It has made me focus on my content and find multiple ways to present the same information using pictures, interaction and internet resources.
The first time I saw one, there were too many of us too all get a ‘touch’. So I guess I fell in love at first sight.
Isn’t it? It’s a love at first touch for any self professed nerd! I too am madly in <3!!
You are right.
Very nice. If I win it is going to be donated to a school or non-profit in Portland.
Absolutely brilliant! Exactly what us pigs need for our morning scrums.
Every classroom should have one of these great tools!
It is fun and exciting.
Every student should have access to a Smartboard and an educator who knows how to use on!
A revolutionized way to learn/teach!
My long term goal is to work with my district or possible SMART to help other teachers enjoy and effectively use SMART products. This new type of smartboard would be great in small classrooms like mine, and I would love to be the one who could test it out!
Oops…possibly!
That is a great goal. I do this is my school and love it. It is great to collaborate and learn with and from each other.
We collaborate quite frequently in our dept.
Just looking into doing this too. Any ideas on how to get started or what is working for you?
Promethean boards are sooo much better for the classroom.
I completely disagree- Promethean has a great board, but the SMART Notebook 10 software hands down the best. I’ll best SMART has multi-touch in development, too.
Interestingly enough, you can use the SMART software with just about any interactive board including Promethean. Best of both worlds?
I would have to disagree. Have you ever used a SMART Notebook 10 to instruct?on a SMART Board? The Notebook software transforms the SMART Board into an amazing instructional tool.
Where’s the data to back it up?
Simple Promethean is designed for the classroom. The board, the software, and the tools. It has a community of educators behind it creating lessons and templates (prometheanworld.com). You can actually write on the board without ruining it, kids can touch multiple areas of the board with their hands and/or body without affecting the response to the board. I could go on and on.
certainly
20% more working space than a standard board……..and without the dry eraser dust! Fantastic News!
I would love to test it out too.
I would love to be a saleman for Smarttech.
It would even be great in large classrooms since that seems to be the new trend…hahaha
So would I!
I would love to share this great tool with the teachers in our school district!
Also at work: great for User Interface reviews/markups.
I concur
We’re in the middle of deploying these in all our schools. Another would be a nice addition.
What a splendid jingle bells just in time for Christmas!!
ditto
I hope you don’t get a lump of coal.
OUr school totally would love to win this!!
It would be great.
Our school would love it too!
What a great contest!
It certainly is great.
The SMART board can help our classrooms to not only look like 21st century classrooms, but also to start acting like a 21st century classroom. Getting students out of their seats and interacting with the learning.
I agree! Students have never been so actively engaged with content on a daily basis.
My classroom already does that judging by how many times I have to confiscate cell phones and Ipods.
For schools what a great learning tool.
Would love the opportunity to use this in my high school math class. Thanks for the chance!
This would be a great start-up for a first year teacher who is gathering fabulous tools for her classroom… ME!
Wow. I would be sooo happy with this IWB. I teach science and the kids love using the technology. Thanks for the opportunity

SMART technology allows for the needed creativity — more boards are needed!
My SMART Board and projector are almost 8 years old. I would really love to have a new model and pass my down to another group in our system!
Definitely would be great to have this new product! I use my SMART Board & Notebook software every period, every day!
The tech just keeps accelerating so quickly.
I have been using Smartboards for many years. I was responsible for helping my site become a Smartboard Showcase School in Southern California a few years ago. We work with English language Learners and the benefits have been tremendous. I still find myself innovating/creating each day that I use my board. Coupled with a document camera and Senteo you really have the most powerful system available to teach students. I can’t wait to see what other new systems are released in the future.
I agree! I don’t have a document camera, but would love to use that with the other 2 tools to make learning even more tailored to students needs in an instant!
Would be a great item
SMART keeps making smart changes to the BOARDS. Keep it up and would love a chance to test drive the new board.
I would love the newest Smartboard. I use mine everyday, allday!! I would not want to ever teach without Smartboard.
I could never pick up a piece of chalk again.
Chalk?? What is chalk??
Student participation, higher scores, happier teachers = SMARTBOARD
Chalk???? hahahah All I ever wanted to do is write on the “Chalk”board when I became a teacher. Well that was my thinking at age 8. Now, a little older :) I love just touching a board with my finger!!! It’s great.
Me too! Having virtually no shadow would be awesome, especially in rooms where mounting a projector is difficult.
My students recently told me that I’m much happier with the Smartboard in my room (we share at my school)…. they notice how much I don’t like chalk!
I would love to have a SMART Board in my classroom. There are a couple at my school and they seem like a great way to get the students interacting with the lesson.
They are fantastic!
I LOVE Smartboards! It is making the classroom so much more engaging for the students.
I would marry it if I could
I don’t ever want to teach without a Smartboard. My life has become so much easier with Smart. Love the Smart Exchange!!
I agree. Everything can be connected to one place, your Notebook lesson. No more searching for that website you used klast year, finding that movie you watched and remembering the changes you wanted to make to your lesson. You can attach all your resources and make changes quickly and save them for the next year. I love it!
I am the reading coach at a third-fifth grade school and this would be fantastic to work with the students and for professional development!
You are correct!
Our eighth grade math teacher would use this constantly!
The teachers and kids love them.
Our rural school would greatly benefit from a SB.
Day 2 of the contest! Who will win this amazing prize? My school has a couple of smart boards and they’re great!
This would be a great asset to our School and a wonderful tool for our students.
I am the tech coordinator at Bishop Flaget School. We have a total of 11 SmartBoards. We love them! I would be absolutely THRILLED to have another!
I’ve used a Smartboard for the past 4 years in various schools… it’s like a drug!! You just have to have one in your classroom! It would be nice to not have to beg for one everywhere I go.
These are amazing. My son’s school has a few and we have one at work. It allows students and meeting participants to engage in the session.
Smartboard please
Another Spruce Goose.
I’ve used the Smart board before. It’s a great device and I could put it to good use.
perfect for a small business!
These will be in every university classroom in the next few years. Great product!
Actually, at INSEAD they use them together with a videoconference system to hold joint courses with students both in Paris and in Singapore. It’s a WOW technology :)
Mmmmmm… smart board
Cool – it’d definitely be put to good use.
Would love to give this to the small private school I do occasional IT work for!
The SmartBoard tech is great because it’s really simple. I worked in a school that had 50 of them, and they almost never broke.
Phenomenal!!!
This… is sick! I used to use one of these back in high school. The whole short throw projector is a great idea.
It would cut down on the glare.
Freakin’ SWEET!!!
Thanks! This looks awesome!
SMART Boards are an awesome teaching and learning tool. I can’t teach without one anymore!
Commenting through Facebook connect too just in case you need to know who I am. :)
I helped install some of these for an inner-city school – great teaching tools and they don’t require a steep learning curve.
This would be great for weekly meetings.
this would be so cool for my little startup…
A “very” smart prize this week! The one comment per day is smart as well!
Yes it is!
Me please!! I’d love it, and make you proud!!
I love the Smart Board
This would be great for any organization supporting Work @ Home initiatives.
Very cool
This would be awesome to use at church.
Why not
I know a school that would love this.
Oh man I want one of these for the web design company I work at so bad.
used one at prior job – incredible brainstorming tool!!!!
This would be great for our company!
Home office means no whiteboard love, not anymore ;)
Just ship it to our office please. Thanks TC.
I think they are going to ship it to my school.
I think they will ship it to Greg’s school district
right here to the Int. School Physical Education Dept. : )
I’ll backup my pickup, load it, and then nail it to the wall.
Santa is bringing that smartboard to the primary school!!!!!!
If I win I’d give it to a public school in Mustang, OK
Awesome!!
With tight budgets these days, this would be a wonderful asset for any school.
I would like to win this for my old grade school.
umm, if they’re free, i want one! otherwise they should sell them cheaper, say as a leased service or something, to let businesses absorb the cost over time. $6k is a lot of $$$ for a whiteboard!
one please. it would go great in my office at work.
Clean Slate Baby! But what about this “short throw” nonsense!
Wow! I have always wanted something like this, where I could draw flow charts and wire frames have them saved and move things around… that would be freaking sweet! Hope I wins.
I have no smart comment to win the smart board. But I want one.
I have to agree no smart comment but would love to be one board smarter :-)
That sounds like a good comment.
We are outfitting a new conference room. Regular white boards are so 2004. I would give a lukewarm cup of cafeteria coffee for a SmartBoard — any day of the week.
outfit it baby
Considering that it’s the time of year where we focus on giving rather than receiving I am going to step up & invite Dawn & Greg to the Gymnasium to see the new SMARTBOARD. I will even let you 2 use it! : )
I had never seen this product before, but I could definately put this to good use. Come on Santa Crunch!
Definitely need to look into SMART Boards & other related stuff. Check out http://www.smarttech.com and then get with your school to put these tools into the budget!!!
This would be a wonderful present for Christmas. We could use it in the classroom, for department meetings, and to hold student led Individualized Education Program meetings. come on St. Nick pick me!!!
This would be really cool to demonstrate at my kids school!
It is cool. Students actually help teachers that are new to the Smartboard.
We could use one…
Bookmarked and commented.
Emmy please!
They have one of these in my son’s classroom. Super cool, and would be awesome to have one in the office.
I used to imagine these sitting in elementary school back in the ’90s. Surprised it has taken this many years to get on the market. As a designer or developer, whiteboards are very useful in planning projects.
I will donate this to my old high school…or my room.
I’m sure I could find a good use for this.
As a trainer I can’t wait to get my hands on this!!
That’s cool!
Should be in every conference room!
I like it!
Comment 1. :)
Ok, I’m in. Challenge accepted.
I’ll be posting 5 times, too!
Smart. Board.
What a great gift this would be.
neat idea
I would REALLY love to win this! What a great tool for my classroom!!!!
This would be an awesome education tool for one our our classrooms….
it is cold here, a new smartboard would warm me up

It definitely is.
