  • what dose the Boxee thing do is it like a tv thing you subscribe for or….

    • Do you like watching Hulu or other websites like that? Do you like hooking up your computer to your TV so you can watch those websites on your TV? Do you find hooking up your computer to your TV an unnecessary hassle? Well you’re in luck then, because that’s how Boxee feels too.

Instead of having a Dish Networks box or a Direct TV box, you can now have a box that pulls all of the online media from the internet right to your TV! Just hook up the Boxee Box like you would with any other TV Top Box, turn it on and you’re ready to go! No more computer necessary to watch online media on your TV.

lol How’s that? Did I do a good job advertising Boxee and D-Link? You can bet I wrote that entire thing with a TV Announcer voice. :p

    • go to their website and find out.

  • NO ITS NO AT ALL LIKE TIVO, (THAT WOULD SUCK) FIRST OF ALL THERE IS BOXEE THE APP, AND THE BOXEE BOX. BOXEE THE APP WORKS KINDA LIKE WINDOWS MEDIA CENTER BUT A MILLION TIMES BETTER WITH A ZILLION MORE FEATURES, AND ITS FREE. THE BOXEE BOX IS A FREE STANDING UNIT THAT CONNECTS TO YOUR TV AND HAS THE BOXEE APP ON IT (NOT ON YOUR COMPUTER, IT CONNECTS TO YOUR TV LIKE A DVD PLAYER WOULD). IT CAN CONNECT TO YOUR HOME NETWORK VIA WIFI. THE FINAL PRICE ON THE BOXEE BOX IS NOT FINAL BUT ITS SAID TO BE UNDER $200. WHICH ALMOST SOUNDS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE.

  • thx Matt, now I want one. @Paul under $200? Hope the rumors are true

  • The price is already known. It’s been confirmed that it will be under $200.

  • definitely getting a boxee box

  • Is this remote available today? Where?

How much does the remote cost?

With Boxee on Ubuntu , how does the remote connect?

    • Bruce, I’ve been running a small media PC that I built from scratch running Ubuntu and the latest beta release of Boxee. It attaches to my HD TV with an HDMI (video/audio) cable. You probably already know this but there’s a free Boxee app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. I don’t know the answer to your question but I use the iPod Touch app and I like it a lot. It has a “gesture” and a “button” mode. Very well done. The only drawback is that you need the Web service running in Boxee and it tends to poll port 8080 frequently resulting in higher than normal cpu utilization. It doesn’t appear to affect HD video steaming, etc but it kind of bugs me. My cpu is a dual core Atom 330 with hyper-threading and handles the load well but I hope they fix this. If I had the choice, I would rather have the actual remote so I’m also waiting for the final price and release date.

      • Thanks, Jeff. Yes I have since leaned about the iPhone Boxee remote control app.

But….. since we are phasing out our old iPhones… and replacing them with Android phones….. and because that method does not work unless both devices are connecting on the same router, etc…

I’ve discovered the best solution for us is a simple wireless keyboard and mouse. We use the small keyboard as a remote control. ( $29 at BJ’s )

        • Absolutely, That’s a real good option. In fact, when I’m tinkering with my media PC, I use a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse. It also works very well. My wife, when using Boxee, is a more traditional user and likes to have a remote in her hand. We both have iPod Touches and she leans in the direction of a remote over a keyboard and mouse. I’m about 50/50 depending on what I want to accomplish. Often, I’ll check email, surf, etc either before or after I fire up Boxee. A keyboard and mouse works better in that case. Cheers! I can’t wait for the Boxee remote…!

  • Microsoft also makes some sort of a Media Center Remote Control that I’ve read that a lot of people use with Boxee (ironically)… :)
