B&N has started rolling out firmware v1.2 for the Nook. Early reports indicate that pages load noticeably faster and the touchscreen screen interface is a bit more responsive. Unfortunately there isn’t a way to force the update. You just going to have to wait until your Nook says there’s an update available.
Update Barnes and Noble just sent us the following statement…
Automatic over the air (OTA) updates, which do not require any action from nook customers, are underway and will be conducted seamlessly over the next week. nook customers can also immediately download the new version at www.nook.com/support, where additional update and technical support information is available.
Hopefully that clears up any confusion any of y’all might have. Happy trails.

You can download and manually install the Nook update from the Barnes and Noble site here: http://www.barnesandnoble.com/nook/support/
The article in inaccurate in saying you have to just wait until your Nook notices it :)
Thats weird, to root my Nook I had to force an update, I think theres gonna be a way to force it sooner or latter.
u can “force” the update if u side-load it
Oh, When I wrote my comment Kevin’s comment was not showing up :)
I selected “Check for New B&N Content” and it downloaded the new firmware. This work for anyone else?
Yeah, it seems any time you trigger a 3g connection (downloading a new book, checking for new content, browsing the shop) it will quickly notice the update and download it.
I received my update immediately upon starting up my nook.
I’ll confirm what the other commentors have said: This update makes my nook quite noticeably faster and smoother.
I was never really bother by the supposed slowness prior to the update though. I bought a Kindle and tried it out for two weeks before I ultimately decided to return it. I did not notice the Kindle being necessarily that much faster like people claimed. With this update, the nook now seems faster than the Kindle.
