Steam for Mac is 100 percent official. Valve just released a statement saying it plans to launch it this April. The first games available will be Left 4 Dead 2, Team Fortress 2, Half-Life (and expansions), Counter Strike, and Portal. Portal 2 will be the first game released for Mac and PC simultaneously. Pretty big news, yes.
Steam will be fully native on the Mac, that is, not some rubbish emulation—it uses WebKit (“Safari”). That makes me jealous: Steam for PC uses Internet Explorer, and it gar-bage. It’s the worst part about Steam.
Valve bigwig Gabe Newell said, “As we transition from entertainment as a product to entertainment as a service, customers and developers need open, high-quality Internet clients. The Mac is a great platform for entertainment services.”
Welcome to Steam, Mac users! I look forward to sniping you all in Team Fortress 2 over and over again until you accuse me of using an aiming bot, the quit in a big huff. Mwahaahaa~!

YAY!!! :DD I LOVE VALVE (even more)
Blasphemy! How will they zoom in? With ctr-click? That might not work to well. :)
Actually, with ctrl + wheel.
we have two button mice….. just sayin.
Does the new UI use IE? I’ve found it to be multitudes better. If you’re not in the UI beta, i suggest you opt in for it is SO MUCH BETTER.
It doesn’t use IE, it uses webKit, so don’t worry @Nicholas ;)
Win.
Best Mac news for a long time.
Yeah, the new Steam beta uses Webkit and is really nice. I bet the new UI will be tha same on MACs too…
So if I’ve already bought a pc version of half-life 2 can I now download the mac version for no extra cost?
yeah…anything you buy for one, can be used for the other. They got it all figured out. you can even save your game on pc, and pick it right back up on the mac.
How will Mac users switch weapons quickly!? They can’t scroll. :O
Haha, I disable scroll wheel weapon switching in all my games anyway. I bump the scroll wheel too often and my mouse’s wheel is a bit… overly sensitive for gaming.
@Xander I am scrolling right now, you can use any mouse, including PC ones w/ a mac and take advantage of all the buttons. Besides the mighty mouse had two button capability and the new magic mouse even adds scrolling. Although a PC style mouse is probably best for gaming and works just fine on a mac!
aw yeah! can’t wait to play some l4d on my macbook :)
Hi,

For all that PC fuckers that usually would say, “if you want to play that game buy a PC”…
