We MUST stop this. Somehow Smallville must be canceled before it surpasses Stargate SG-1 and becomes the longest running Sci-fi show in North America’s history.
Now I’m not suggesting violence here. Oh no. That’s dumb. But maybe something like what Jericho fans did. They mailed in boxes and boxes and boxes of peanuts to get the show started again. Maybe if we send in cases of green Jell-O seeing as it Jack O’Neil’s favorite desert. I don’t know. Something needs to be done, though.
Stargate SG-1 is the most complete and thorough sci-fi show every created. It ranks higher than both Star Trek and Star Wars in book. Watch the show from the very first NSFW episode through the end. There are complex story arcs and character development found in no other sci-fi show.
Sure, there are trademark quirks about the show, but it’s the fact that the show is never too serious and always pokes fun at both itself and the genre in general that makes it so great. We can’t allow Smallville to surpass the ten year mark and therefore become the longest running sci-fi show.
I’m sure there was a similar outcry when Stargate SG-1 passed X-Files nine season run thus setting the record, but trust me, X-Files has nothing on SG-1. I just finished watching the entire X-Files series start to finish and there can’t be another show with as weak of a series storyline than X-Files. Sure, some of the episodes were epic, but a lot were not. It took a lot to sit through seasons after the mystery about Mulder’s sister was solved and even more after David Duchonvy left the show.
Smallville is a fine show. That’s clear otherwise it wouldn’t be contesting the record, but it’s not SG-1. Hopefully the ascended beings above will intervene and do something to stop Smallville from kicking SG-1 out of the record books.

Today must be a slow news day to write this. Sure I love Stargate SG1, I love Star Trek, Star Wars, Smallvile, hell almost anything Scifi. Stargate Universe is turning out to be a pretty good series. I think they stopped it for the same reason this is Lost’s last season, because they were running out of ideas and races to fight. Now with Stargate Universe its new which means new foes, plus their going to continue making Stargate SG1 movies.
I understand what your saying, but Smallville is still going because their is tons of Superman lore that they can feed on yet. I love SG1, but like Battlestar Galactica to Caprica, we have to give over to the new and give it a chance. Its the same universe, just different characters for us to watch grow and care for. As long as they make a Stargate show thats well written, the lore will still be alive.
What we need is a new Star Trek show. Even if they did a reboot of Enterprise and made it closer to the lore that would be good.
Are you kidding? This is the most important news of the day.
No other show has come close to SG1
Farscape was a much better show than SG1, not to say SG1 was bad but Farscape is the best sci-fi tv show ever
Frell Yea!
farscape is nothing compare to…. FireFly! Hands down firefly was the best scifi show every made.
Smallville does need to end. Am I the only one that thinks the acting + dialogue is beyond bearable? And ok, 10 years, clark still can’t fly? so rediculous, you know they are going to save it for the final episode. I gave up watching this show a year ago, it’s not the same without lex.
Farscape is a great show too ! For me Farscape and Stargate SG1 are on the same level (even if I prefer the fact that in Farscape every other alien race doesn’t speak naturally English!)
I watch each season of Farscape at least 4 times, and each season of Stargate at least 10times…
I loved BSG and right now I Love Caprica especially with the episode with a bit of Matrix inside!
Hah! Seriously, there’s absolutely NOTHING you can do to stop Smallville from overtaking SG-1.
Aside from a writers strike, or perhaps blowing up Smallville Studios, you can’t stop it reaching 218 episodes next season.
i hope SMALLVILLE BREAKS EVERY RECORD THERE IS, AND ALL FANS WILL STAND BEHIND THIS AFTER I REPORT THIS ON PROPER CHANNEL<S
no one in this comments section has ever made love to a real woman.
except, of course, for me. seriously i have.
@Joe
Sorry but Lex didn’t make the show…it was nice with him on it sure he’s missed but they need to do something like Doomsday, that was bad @$$. I would appreciate them just moving the Smallville onto the movie scene or do a good Justice League movie with “Welling” as superman.
you know sg1 has 10 reasons but stargate as a whole is working on 16 so…
and i know with that logic you could count all superman television ever but still sg1 shouldn’t feel threatened
If you cannot say anything good to Smallville, just shut it ok? And please…spare me…i have been waiting for this Season 10 to happen…and its a prayer answered!
correction to everybody. Babylon 5 is/was/will forever be the most complete, awesome, sci-fi show ever created. it was perfect.
It was a perfect let down. For 5 seasons they built up the show down with the shadows, and when it finally came they stopped the battle held hands and flew off into the nether regions.
But it was the geekiest sci-fi show ever.
The SG-1 gag is BLUE jello.
If the length of a show had anything to do with it’s greatness then Freaks and Geeks & Firefly would be on the opposite end of the line!
Stargate SG-1 is the best TV series ever. Period.
Stargate Universe, on the other hand, is a piece of crap that shouldn’t bear the Stargate title.
Smallville is SciFi to the same extent that a cow is a nuclear fusion reactor. This si not to say there’s anything wrong with Smallville as a show, it’s jsut not scifi.
Learn to tell the difference between fantasy and *SCIENCE* fiction, please. Smallville contains no science. Watch Mythbusters, perhaps you can see some there.
Smallville-SciFi Please! You can’t be serious. One is a comic spin-off for a kids and the other a serious SciFi genre leader. Am I going bonkers?
Didn’t Clark jump the shark a long time ago?
Smallville isn’t science fiction — it’s more fantasy/drama. Two different genres. OH NO! 24 might beat Stargate if it’s renewed two more seasons!
And Stargate Universe is CRAP. As bad as Atlantis was at times it was leagues better than this SGU garbage.
I agree with a couple others. Firefly was the best Sci-Fi show ever, and Serenity one of the best movies.
Does anyone think its strange that all of these other superheroes are popping up, saving the world, for many seasons now, and Clark is still a crybaby? I loved the show, but stopped after about season six. I understand they said no tights, no flighs, but there needs to be something done. Clark’s overdue for the big S.
He does wear the S now, just in the wrong colors and with a trench coat instead of a cape.
This is so pitifully geeky and entitled it’s ridiculous. So freaking what? Is Smallville hurting you in some way? Does it have an evil plan to take over the world? Get off your high horse and go watch re-runs of SG-1 if that will make you happy. Get off Smallville’s case.
Personally, my issue is that I like SG-1, and I think Smallville sucks. To have a show I consider “sucky” surpass a show I consider “AWESOME GIMME MOAR” in longevity feels like an affront to my critical abilities.
Logically, it shouldn’t, because as all true Scifi fans know: the average viewer is a moron.
Don’t worry about it. I’m a Smallville fan, and I am hoping this will be the last season. Seeing the way the show has progressed, we pretty much have to see Clark Kent become Superman in this final season. It’s pretty much the last step left. Plus WB probably wants to get a reboot Superman movie franchise, which means Smallville should end.
SG1 & Smallville are both great shows.Yeah SG1 got shit after Jack left(SGU always & forever a load of bollocks) and smallville hasn’t been as great without Lex but come on they are both way better than Reality TV!!
Wow. That’s childish. Smallville is a great TV show, why should it be cancelled for the childish reason you’ve said? Bullock!
Here are my top Sci-fi shows…in no particular order.
Stargate (all of them)
Star Trek (all of them)
Firefly
Farscape
Babylon 5
Earth the final Conflict
Andromeda
Smallville
Space Above and Beyond
Battlestar Galactica (new and old, but I like new better)
Caprica
Eureka
Dr. Who (and all the spinoffs)
Lost
Xfiles
Fringe
Primeval
I can go on but you get the idea.
I’m a personal fan of Smallville. It has introduced Superman to a new generation that otherwise would have more or less forgotten him. As remarkable as that seems, Smallville truly has played a unique role in educating new, yound people about such a great superhero that so many looked up in their own childhood.
I hope the show continues on. A record means nothing, and to say it deserves to die just because it comes close to breaking Stargate’s record is shallow. How can you really claim that a show that so many people clearly love shouldn’t break the record. At least show enough courtesy to watch it through, it has some good stuff there.
I’ve been watching smallville since it started and I’d have to say it peaked at the 5th season. It’s had some good arcs and moments since then but over all it has gone down hill. I’m hoping they either end it before completely ruining the series or really picking up the quality of the writing again.
Though I do like these later seasons more than the first 2 or 3 since there are actual story arcs instead of just the freak-of-the-week episodes.
Season 9 is the best season since season 5.
I miss jonathan kent :C.
Obligatory SG-1 fangirl remarks follow.
It’s blue jello… for Sam. Jack likes cake, pie and occasionally red jello when the writers want to be Sam/Jack-y.
There are two Ls in Jack O’Neill’s name – the one L Jack O’Neil is kinda a stick in the mud, y’know?
As for the article… ehhh, Doctor Who holds the title anyway. Even if some crazy book doesn’t recognise it. Either way… go Canada for being the home of (tv) sci-fi! Vancouver: the ultimate alien landscape.
Well yes and no. Dr. Who had more seasons but for one they weren’t all together…between 1995 and 2004 it was off the air. Two its a BBC show not a US one. Sure most of the sci-fi shows now are filmed in Canada but they’re still U.S. shows.
Um, folks. Dr. Who is the Guiness record holder at 756 episodes. No on need worry. :)
Oh, and B5 is still the best!
I take back my last comment. If Season 10 has the regular length of 22 episodes, it will surpass Stargate by 4 episodes.
:P
Haha. After the whining here, I’m looking forward to the record getting broken.
1. Smallville Is Awesome And Is Going To Surpass SG-1 So Deal With It !!!
2.Stargate Sg-1 Was Awesome To The End
3.Stargate Atalnatis Was Alson Awesome To The End
4.Stargate Universe Is A Huge Pile Of Crap
That’s because they tried to make SGU be a BSG and it just sucked. They tried to make it dark, but the acting and plots sucked donkey dick.
Smallville already renewed with 22 episodes =D I love it!!!!!
hi there i am a big star gate fan plus a star trek fan and star wars fan too you do have a point there what happen if it was not small ville but star gate star trek or star wars
If there needs to be a petition in the Scifi genre, it would be to bring back BSG. Yes, it would be weird to have Adama as both a kid in Caprica and an old man in BSG, but funk it. BSG is so much better than any show I’ve ever seen it’s depressing. Stargate and Smallville are horrifically bad. Stargate gets the nod for a better premise, though.
Some misc comments:
-Smallville: It’s considered Sci-Fi? Who knew? I didn’t think anyone watched it anymore.
-SG1: It was a great show in it’s prime. And yes, RDA leaving killed the show. Even with that canceling SG1 was the worst mistake Sci-Fi Channel has ever made since Farscape
-BSG: Started off really well Turned into a shit sandwitch on “New Caprica” (Yes, lets protest the Iraq War and torpedo a TV series all at once)
-Farscape: I didn’t really get into this but I will give it points for originality.
-Firefly/Serenity: Please, just tell Joss Whedon to get out of the business. He’s almost as badly overrated as Quentin Tarantino. Buffy sucked, Angel sucked, Firefly was a shit sandwitch put in a blender.
-SGU: I gave up on “SyFy” long ago. I don’t even care about this one.
Given all the failures we’ve seen lately at least none of them can compare with how badly NBC screwed up Heroes.
Stargate can shove the record up its ass because that’s where Smallville is gonna tear it a new one when it destroys the record. LONG LIVE SMALLVILLE!
Please, you can´t do nothing about this… please
got a job, smallville back from a 10 season and
is a favorite for geeks and no geeks… you are so
lame… please…
1. smallville is awesome
2. a lot of you seriously need to get laid
