Big, bad Bay just pushed out the press release confirming the October 20 street date for both the DVD and Blu-ray of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen. Both the DVD and Blu-ray versions will come in a two-disc variety (single disc DVD will be available as well). The two-disc packages will include “augmented reality technology” that give owners a chance to rebuild a broken down Prime using their webcam and a “special website.” A gaggle of other extras are available. Check those out after the jump.
Joytiq is reporting out of GamesCom that 2K will not be releasing BioShock 2 in Q1 of 2010. According to an unnamed 2K rep, a new trailer for the hottest game of 2010 will be shown at PAX East, which runs the last week of March. That makes me sad. Oh well.
Update: Bloops.
Update: Call it a failure in translation. The representative meant PAX in Seattle and not PAX East in Boston. The company currently has no plans for PAX East. The rep followed up that “‘early 2010′ is a much more realistic release date than ’second quarter 2010.’”
It’s not too hard to believe that Sony would have tinkered under the hood of the PS3 Slim and today we’ve learned that those assumptions are, in fact, true. The Slim now has a 45-nanometer Cell microprocessor, which was jointly developed by Sony, Toshiba and IBM.
Benefits of the new fangled chip based on IBM’s Power architecture promises improved performance with less power being drawn on the whole. And we all know how much of a power hog the last gen PS3 was/is. An improved Nvidia graphics processor is also on board, but neither Sony nor Nvidia have revealed any details on the new chip.
Why does this not surprise me? Remember the whole fiasco with the BlackBerry Bold? Looks like AT&T is shafting HTC and its first Android device, the Lancaster. According to the Digi Times, the launch of Lancaster could either be delayed or canceled because it hasn’t passed AT&T’s validation process. It was supposed to launch earlier this month, but that obviously didn’t happen.
Pete Hines, VP of Marketing and PR for Bethesda, quietly whispered that we should expect a little something “in the next month or so”, reports MTV. It’s something that hasn’t been announced! No, MTV, it’s not a “Where’s Waldo” title because Ubisoft is working on that right now.
Marvel’s Executive Vice President of Global Digital Media Group, Ira Rubenstein, said Marvel is done making crap games based on movies.
We are not doing movie-based games anymore,” Rubenstein said following yesterday’s announcement of Digital Comics for PSN at Sony’s GamesCom press conference. “Actually, wait … we are not doing crappy movie-based games anymore. You can quote me on that.
Oh, and the Iron Man 2 game from Sega is going to kickass because Rubenstein is around unlike the first Iron Man game (I didn’t think it was that bad), which makes sense since they opened up their own movie studio to stop the string of horrible movies that other studios have been putting out. Rubenstein goes on to say that the Thor game is going to kickass (my words, not his), too. I really enjoyed X-Men Origins: Wolverine, so I have no doubt that Iron Man 2andThor will follow suit.
I will personally kick each and everyone who purchases or downloads this app in the teeth. I’m serious, people. I dare you to say “tat” or “ink”. Of course, handy-games (makers of this crap) are a “Content Aggregation Partner” of Sony-Ericsson. I’m on the next flight to Germany to kick some teeth in.
Ooh la la. A real deal Android tablet this summer? Am I dreaming? No! I’m so in love with this OS it’s disgusting. Put aside my sickening love for a freaking OS and consider taking a gander at AppsLib? It’s the Application Store for Android launched by Archos, which states that registration will begin on September 15 “following the launch of this initiative”. If that isn’t enough to whet your appetite then how about some specs for the Archos Android tablet? Read More
Sony isn’t giving up on PlayStation Home anytime soon and PS Home Online Community Specialist Locust_Star has detailed the upcoming fall update, v1.3, and it’s serious business, people, or as Locust_Star points out, “This is the for real deal upgrade!” Yeah, sure, whatever you say, dude (or dudette).
I’m a n00b to the whole Android scene; I make no bones about it. But I have been lurking the XDA forums for the last couple months and I feel comfortable rooting my Android devices (except the Hero) and swapping between “cooked ROMs” from various hackers devs to get the latest and greatest features. So when the Interwebs started freaking out over the G1’s lack of memory, which we all knew from the beginning, but that it would hinder the G1 from getting future updates, I started to worry.
Alas, those closer to the realm of Android have shed a bit of light on what G1 owners could/should expect going forward regarding those nasty rumors about not getting Donut or Éclair. Mr Wimberly of Android and Me fame did a bit of digging and it seems as though we may have jumped the gun. Maybe.
What do analysts know about hardware or anything at all? Nothing, if the Commercial Times’ report about the Palm Eos shipping in October turns out to be true. However, Rozwadowski wasn’t completely wrong because Compal will begin shipping CDMA versions of the Eos in Q1 of 2010, but the GSM version is still scheduled for this year.
I liked the Dinobots as a kid and wouldn’t mind seeing them in the third Transformers movie, but who am I kidding? I’m still unhappy with Prime’s moving lips. And for the record, I thought Revenge of the Fallen was entertaining even though Sam ends up in Prime heaven.
Anyway, comicbookmovie.com is reporting that Bay was quoted in Empire’s September issue with the following: Read More
The authenticity of these screenshots is questionable, but we wouldn’t really be doing our jobs if we didn’t share them with you. So, what does iTunes 9 have to do with Facebook? According to the screenshots shared by BGR, the next iteration of iTunes will allow users to share playlists via Facebook. And then there’s something about third-party hardware support. It’s hard to see, but the second screenshot shows a Samsung YH-J70 popping up in iTunes. What’s strange about this is that iTunes says it has 27.86GB of memory, but the J70 MP3 player ships as a 20GB device. We’ll find out next month for sure.
Short Version: For the last seven or so years I’ve been using a ghetto old shaver kit from Walgreens to trim my beard and cut my hair. (I don’t cut my hair anymore; that was just in college when I was a little less poor than now.) I don’t recall the last time I actually shaved with a razor and the ghetto one that I have now not only rips the hairs off my baby face, it never gives me an even trim. Norelco’s stubble trimmer alleviates both annoyances and never gets clogged or requires the blades to be sharpened. So, if you’re like me and you never shave then $40 isn’t too much to fork over for the Philips Norelco Stubble Trimmer.
Short Version: If you’ve never purchased a charging dock for your iPhone or iPod Touch and you’re without an alarm clock then the Kensington Nightstand is a perfect alternative for you, friend. Being able to check on the weather first thing in the morning is an added bonus. The $40 price tag might give some of you sticker shock considering the Rise & Shine app is free from the App Store, but a quick look around to other iPhone/iPod accessory vendors quickly reveals that the Nightstand is actually a good deal. If you’re looking to buy a charging dock that is.
I know that I’m totally out of Hasbro’s targeted demo, but the Target exclusive Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Superion is the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to assemble. A month after the fact, I still haven’t been able to put it together, which is why Target is hooking us up with five Superions to give away. I challenge all of you to do better than me (if you win). I remember the days when Hasbro’s Transformers toys were totally awesome and easy to put together. What the heck happened? I also miss the red decoder bonus from the old toys.
Now that Sony finally dropped the price of the PS3 down to $300 will you buy one? A better question might be: are you going to pick up a 80GB or 160GB PS3 because the Slim doesn’t support Linux? Sound off in comments on that last one.
Short Version: If you’re the proud owner of a battery sucking 3G device like the iPhone, G1, Pre or any small gadget that can be recharged via miniUSB or microUSB then you’ll want to listen to what I have to say. At $45, the Energizer XP2000 is without a doubt, the best external power solution that you can buy today.
We’ve just received the official images and press release from Sony regarding the PS3 Slim. The new SKU, CECH-2000A, will rock a 120GB HDD and goes on sale in NA, Europe/PAL and Asian countries on September 1 for $299 and €299, respectively. Surprisingly, Japan will get the Slim two days later for 29,980 yen. The 80GB PS3 price drops down to $299 starting today in NA and down to €299 starting tomorrow. The 160GB PS3 also saw a price drop of $100 and now goes for $399. The rest of the press release can be found after the jump.
Update: We’ve added a picture of the last gen PS3 with the new Slim PS3 so you can see the difference in size.
Short Version: The In Your Face viewbase is everything you’d want from a phone stand and then some. With an 8-inch adjustable neck, swiveling head and adjustable clip, the IYF is perfect for flights or long car rides. Unlike the $25 iZel, we think the IYF is worth the $30 price tag.
Gamescon is currently under way in Germany and Sony has just revealed the upcoming features for the PS3’s firmware v3.0. Changes to 3.0 are mostly cosmetic, but the PSN Video store will be invading the UK, France, Germany and Spain in November with further expansion in 2010. Those of you in the short list of countries just mentioned will be privy to SD and HD movies for purchase and rent.
Another announcement out of Gamescom reveals that the PSP will be getting a digital comic book reader in November and Marvel is on board to bring “hundreds” of titles to the PlayStation Portable.
The full list of features in 3.0 can be found after the jump. Read More
Here’s what we know about the Satin Silver DualShock 3 controller for the PS3: it’s silver and it controls the PS3. It’s available now from Gamestop for $55. When’s that white one coming out?
