While I’m not quite down with a lot of Watchismo’s aesthetic choices, you gotta respect his drive. This guy loves Swiss quartz, crazy designs, and even goes nuts over Hamilton Electrics, watches that are so odd that only one person in the world can fix them.

Do not adjust your computer because Bill Ruppert has put together a nice set of sound effects using only EHX pedals and some creativity. I love how he makes a clock sound with just the pick-up switch and then adds in some bells for spooky effect.

Look at these early Windows start-up sounds. They look primitive now but imagine being a young man in the late 1980s and your parents have just brought you home a new Packard Bell x86 machine. Back in those days sound cards were premium items and to hear an operating system sing to you when you start it up was a really big deal. The vast majority of computer users during that time would have never heard most of these sounds.

Windows 7 is your idea, friends. That’s what this new spot – along with some 7 second demos after the jump – is trying to say. It’s basically pointing out that Windows 7 is a nice, clean update. Yes, I would agree it’s a Vista Service Pack and, in a way, it’s kind of like Snow Leopard in that it changes little in the UI but improves quite a bit under the hood. But Windows 7 is Microsoft’s big product for 2010 so let’s let them have their day in the sun.

My First Sony: A Tribute

by John Biggs on October 19, 2009

It’s not every day that a strange, hirsute man rewrites a Sony jingle and then dances, poorly, on his deck.

This man is my friend Rick from grade school and he created this in an homage to some stupid tapes we did as kids in my basement. While it is clear that Rick has grown physically, I worry constantly about his mental capacity.

Regardless, it is catchy. Click through to see the original commercial.

Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on here either.

After weeks of speculation, the Eigenharp is live! This crazy instrument is part woodwind, part drum, and part piano. You can blow it, tap it, and stroke it to make music and it includes a case and strap. It costs $5,800 dollars and is customizable at the new product page.

Interestingly, they also released the Eigenharp Pico for about $500. It’s more like a recorder (a simple flute) and has 18 keys and one slider.

I am a huge Nooka watch fan and and it’s fun to see what they’ve been up to lately, especially on the marketing front. This little video features the new Nooka mascot, a wee fellow who looks like some kind of Chinese mooncake god.

New games are always a cause for excitement. Ubisoft’s R.U.S.E. is a highly anticipated RTS set to release early 2010. But even cooler is the fact that you can play it on one of IntuiLab’s large multi-touch tables, and kill things just by touching them.

Boy, are you in luck. Samsung just released this “viral video” (is it viral if it is willingly introduced into the bloodstream of the Internet? Wouldn’t this be an “intravenous video” or a “infection through self-abuse video?) for the Samsung Galaxy.

Our own Matt Burns on NCIS

Marine? Nope. Sailor? Nope. Blogger: Matt Burns.

That’s right: our own Matt Burns ended up on NCIS last night skewered on some rebar after jumping from a bridge. How did they end up with Matt Burns and blogger? We don’t rightly know, but they do consider him pond scum, which is an accurate depiction.

Did you see this? This is Canabalt, a crazy little game that involves a man running and jumping in an 8-bit pixellated world that seems to be falling apart around you.

I’m reminded of Half-Life, Mirror’s Edge, and like some kind of weird Sonic game that doesn’t require you to remove your testes to play.

This is a crazy fun demo of the new Avatar toys by Mattel. Each toy includes a little card that is scannable via webcam and creates an on-screen augmented reality robot or character. While this is old hat for most of us, Mattel is quite proud of being ahead of the curve and for good reason. You can see more demos at AvatarItag.com.

Total Immersion made the technology and even added a little “button” system to the cards. When you touch a spot on the card, the onscreen character pulls a knife, shoots a gun, or recounts part of the story. The added information and data will change over time, up to the release of the movie on December 18.

For those of you about to rock, I encourage you to pick out a nice pair of headphones. I tested four models at around $100. They are:

  • Ultrasone Zino – $99
  • Philips Tapster – Price TBA
  • Shure SE102MPA – $119
  • Klipsh S4i – $99

Which one did I love the most? While they were all special in their own way, there were two that really stood out in the round-up… but I won’t ruin the surprise! Watch the video to find out.

I’d hate to be Ben Heck. You wake up in the morning and suddenly there’s a modded Nintendo DS in your stool. You got eat breakfast and find a modded Commodore 64 inside a cereal box. Then you go to work and suddenly instead of beers coming down the conveyer belt at the bottling plant you start finding modded PS3s inside laptop cases.

He used a 1280×720 17-inch laptop screen and has a front-loading Blu-Ray drive and a two-tone grey color scheme. You just press the button and “sexy time” happens.

Next time I need a nice long nap I’m going queue up this video of some Russian dude going through the Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1. This monster video is 30 minutes long and involves such exciting discoveries as “a Youtube Player,” “spreadsheet clicking,” and “sniffles on camera.”

This video is truly akin to watching an old man try to fold a an old Chik-Fil-A wrapper on the bus: it’s vaguely disturbing but more fascinating in its uncontrolled precision.

It’s hard to get much attention at major conferences and it seems that Hi Tech Systems has figured out a way to make a bit of a stir. They created a steampunk console that uses their own products inside a case that looks like it belongs in H.G. Well’s sex toy drawer.

Fans of Daniel Johnston, rejoice! There is now a beautifully cell-shaded, tilt-controlled puzzle game just for you.

“Hi, How Are You?” features images and music from the man himself, enclosed in a iPhone app that proves to actually be an entertaining game.

So this is apparently an electronic instrument, handmade in England, that has been in the works for 7 years. It seems to be a cross between a piano and a harp with a set of keys and a strip controller for handling pitch bending. It seems there’s also a built-in arranger as well as a drum machine. You can also pitch-bend the keys as you play. You can sign up for the release info at their website but until it’s out let’s just revel in its strangeness.

    More video after the jump.
