Apple should hire this guy, but not as a cameraman

June 3rd, 2008

Someone named Umang Dokey posted this iPhone 2 mock-up as an entry for an iLounge contest. His work is almost flawless and the tilt concepts are amazingly cool. Sadly, Umang filmed the damn thing sideways which kind of detracts from the experience. Better luck next time, Dokey!

Google: Android for sure in 4th quarter of 2008

June 3rd, 2008

There’s been waffling about the date Android handsets will become available. I’ve heard February, March (clearly wrong), Summer, late Summer, “second half of 2008″ and “late 2008.” Well, not surprisingly, it looks like the latest estimate is the most accurate. Google has decreed:
“We’re still on track to announce Android-powered phones this year. Some of our [...]

Rumor Roundup: 3G iPhone

June 2nd, 2008

With right around a week to go before WWDC, the iPhone rumor mill is churnin’ like its never churned before. In the name of science, we’ve pushed all of the rumors through our FCF (Fanboy Crap Filter), and rated the more likely rumors on the PKL (Pre-keynote Legitometer) scale.
Will it ship the day it’s announced? [...]

3G iPhone to be thinner, subsidized in the UK

June 2nd, 2008

Rather than bombarding you folks with two successive 3G iPhone rumor posts, I’ll do so in one so as not to piss off the iPhone haters.
First, Leander Kahney at Cult of Mac has a hot tip that the new iPhone will include the following:
3G
GPS
2 x memory (16GB and 32GB)
22 percent thinner
Better battery life
We’ve [...]

HP set to launch something big on June 10

June 2nd, 2008

A buddy of mine who shall remain nameless tipped me off the other week that a big computer company was going to announce something really big, like, their biggest announcement of the year big. I immediately said, “it’s Apple, moron.” He said, “no, I’m not that stupid, moron.” We squawked back and forth for [...]

GPS all but confirmed for 3G iPhone

June 2nd, 2008

Broadcom seems to have been awarded the contract to supply Apple’s 3G iPhone with GPS, says Om Malik. It’s sort of a given at this point and would probably be a dealbreaker for those looking to upgrade or jump onto the bandwagon if the 3G iPhone were sans GPS.
If the only upgrade hardware-wise to the [...]

Kevin Rose, iPhone prognosteekater

June 2nd, 2008

Nigh on every year, come WWDC time, we all down at the farm get a visit from Kevin Rose. This elusive fella can usually be found rock climbing in Palo Alto but by garm if he ain’t also a perfect iPhone prognosticator. Sure the news and city folks come into town ever year to see [...]

iPhone heads to Spain: June 18

June 2nd, 2008

The 3G iPhone will be available in Spain on Telefónica’s Movistar. No date has officially been announced, but Giz says June 18 is the most likely.
Spain, who have already crashed out of Euro 2008, was one of the last Western countries without Apple’s cellphone. Countries without the iPhone now include Japan, Russia and China. [...]

Report: New iPhone already here; first shipments happened in March

May 30th, 2008

The second-generation iPhone may already be here in “key markets,” according to Forbes. The business publication says Apple has been receiving shipments of a “mysterious new product” since March, citing sources in the shipping industry and leaning heavily on previous analyst assumptions (what companies are supplying what internal parts, etc.). Why, then, no credible photos [...]
