Sony’s $300 Internet Video Link add-on box for BRAVIA-series TVs has recently added the Slacker streaming music service to the list of available channels. Also added was content from Howcast.com, a site that contains a series of user-generated how-to videos. Slacker ought to lend some good music features to Sony’s service and Howcast has won [...]

Wow, Kmart will be open from 7AM to 9PM on Thanksgiving Day, which should leave just enough time for employees to make the traditional super late-night Thanksgiving dinner with their families. The store’s ads are spread out across four circulars, so here are some of the better deals from each:

Sony’s razor-thin OLED display (thickness: 0.3mm) was one of the most spectacular products of the CEATEC 2008 exhibition that took place just outside of Tokyo last month. Now Samsung, after having the tech world impressed with its “flapping OLED display”, showcased a similar device during the FPD International 2008 in Tokyo.

Sony’s 32-inch KDL-32JE1, the world’s most energy efficient LCD, still has potential
Omron has developed a backlight for LCDs that reduces the amount of power conventional backlights, mostly cold cathode fluorescent lamps (CCFL), need by 33% to just 39W. Existing 32-inch LCD TVs are using about 10 CCFLs.

Sony unveiled a spectacular OLED display (curved, 0.3mm thin) at the CEATEC 2008 exhibition earlier this month, only to be followed by a product from Samsung, which the company calls “flapping display”.

Who hasn’t sat in front of their HDTV thinking about wonderful little apps that could float on top of live TV all widget-like: weather, RSS feeds, webcams, sports scores, anything. Now Sony has released the SDK for its Japanese Bravia TVs with the hope that developers will create such apps. Samsung high-end LCDs have had a similar functionality but Sony [...]

Sony’s KDL-40ZX1 Bravia, the world’s thinnest LCD TV
Osaka-based electronic component manufacturer Tabuchi Electric recently announced [JP, PDF] it has developed a switching power supply aimed at making flat-panel displays thinner. The new component is just 10 mm thick. Tabuchi says their existing power supplies are about 25mm thick.
Usually, TV makers need to incorporate three to [...]

This, my friends, is a gargantuan laptop. The VAIO AW series features a massive 18.4-inch screen with 3LED backlighting, which “is a technical breakthrough found on high-end BRAVIA LCD TVs,” according to Sony. The 3LED technology uses three separate LEDs – red, green, and blue – for pure color reproduction, similar to how three-chip video [...]
