Speaking of Xohm, Sprint’s WiMAX initiative, rumors are swirling around Wall Street that Sprint will announce a partnership with Clearwire tomorrow, unifying their two disparate networks as one nationwide WiMAX network.
This is fantastic news for WiMAX fans and a step in the right direction if the technology is going to take on competitor LTE, or [...]

In an earnings call today Time Warner reported that it was planning to spin off its Cable holdings, “under the right circumstances.” No specifics were noted but Time Warner Cable is obviously bolted on to the weak AOL and TW media holdings and not quite the best fit for a media company in the first [...]

Looking to put a nail in its own coffin, Qwest is now offering 20Mbps DSL service in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area for $119.99 per month ($109.99 per month for the first year) in order to compete with Comcast’s high speed internet service, which offers speeds of up to 12, 16, or 50Mbps for $42.95, [...]

The PS3 version of GTA IV will require a five-minute install. While five minutes isn’t a big deal, especially given how long we’ve already waited for the game, there’s bound to be the “I don’t like being forced to do anything” crowd. That said, most of the crowd on CVG seems to be cool with [...]

So much controversy surrounding Comcast’s “proposed” Bill of Rights and Responsibilities regarding P2P use. The Slashdot reaction was typical: I pay for a service and they’d better damn well deliver said service. That’s hard to argue. Another idea I liked: Comcast is only proposing this Bill in order to prevent government regulation from taking effect. [...]

Straight out of the University of Texas at Austin comes the world’s most powerful laser. I just assumed that most lasers were very powerful, but apparently the great state of Texas has the best one until someone else can come along and build an even more powerful laser or mounts this same laser to a [...]

Many have wanted a “bill of rights” for Internet subscribers for awhile, and now the idea has the backing of an unusual group: Comcast.
Comcast has been in the news for “traffic shaping“, or favoring certain types of traffic over others, notably putting BitTorrent and other P2P traffic on a second-tier behind what it considered “legitimate” [...]

And to think Hickey was impressed with that new Comcast package. Big yawn right there.
Cern, where Web creator Tim Burners-Lee worked, has been working on an Internet replacement called The Grid that’s 10,000 times faster than broadband. I made a graph in Numbers to illustrate just how big 10,000 times is. It’s remarkable, really.
Built entirely [...]

Those crazy Comcast folks. What will they think of next? They’re offering a screaming fast internet connection, aimed at small businesses and, I’m assuming, rich individuals. That’s six times faster than their previously fastest option. They say
“At 50 million bits per second, a 4-gigabyte Hollywood movie can be downloaded from the Internet in less [...]

This just isn’t fair. CrunchGear reader windexh8er writes in to gloat:
I live in Minneapolis, and my Intarwebs will be getting much faster!
Well good for you, braggart. Our own Devin just got hooked up here in Seattle with a 30Mbps pipe, yet I, living just less than a half mile or less from Devin get a [...]
