The reviews are in for the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV, but should you play it again?

December 1st, 2008

The PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV, which will be downloadable via Steam, comes out on Wednesday. The reviews embargo, however, must have lifted overnight in Europe as magazines there already have posted their reviews online. EuroGamer—the review written by one of the Rock, Paper, Shotgun gents—gives it a 9/10, calling the game groundbreaking [...]

Yay: Grand Theft Auto IV uses SecuROM DRM (but gently)

November 29th, 2008

You know how in trailers of terrible “family” movies there’s always a part where the announcers says, “Here we go again!” in that dumb “enthusiastic announcer guy voice”? Think of that right now, only juxtaposed with the sights and sounds of Liberty City, for it has been revealed that Grand Theft Auto IV uses SecurROM [...]

Grand Theft Auto IV DLC: February 17, called The Lost and Damned

November 20th, 2008

The DLC for Grand Theft Auto IV (Xbox 360 version) will be released on February 17. It’s entitled The Lost and Damned, which sounds a lot like a 70s cop movie. Rockstar hasn’t announced a price yet, but $15-$20 doesn’t seem out of the question.
Dan Houser, the face of Rockstar these days, told USA [...]

The NXE hard drive install only marginally improves game loading time

November 12th, 2008

A round of applause for Eurogamer, which did the thankless task of testing out the NXE’s HDD Install option and comparing it to normal method of playing games off the DVD. Several games of all shapes and sizes were checked, including Gears of War 2 (or should I say Gears of Bore, yuck), GTA IV [...]

Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser says to expect GTA IV DLC release date in a few weeks

November 10th, 2008

There’s a nifty, jargon-free interviewover at Variety with Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser. (Let’s just call Houser the czar of the Grand Theft Auto franchise.) In it, which you really ought to read in its entirety, Houser explains the differences between Japanese and American gaming preferences (and how that affects GTA), how the industry has moved [...]

Saints Row 2 and Oblivion With Guns selling like hotcakes

November 7th, 2008

Or so they say. There aren’t a lot of actual sales numbers back yet, but THQ has shipped over two million copies of the well-received GTA-like game to retailers and seems to be riding high, while Bethesda’s highly-anticipated Oblivion With Guns has shipped nearly five million copies, and I don’t think that includes Steam, which [...]

Review: Gears of War 2

November 6th, 2008

BODIES AS SHIELDS!!!
This won’t be a complete review because I don’t want to spoil anything for anyone. Like you, I’ve been waiting since I completed the first Gears of War, so instead, I’ll tell you what’s different. Cool?
But I can tell you that it’s everything I could have ever hoped and dreamed for. The [...]
