Helio’s Mysto gets the CrunchGear treatment

December 21st, 2007

The Mysto has landed, and it is pretty hot. The slim slider is one of the best sliding phones I’ve seen yet. Samsung really knows what it’s doing with this form factor, and, with Helio, has made a pretty terrific mid-range phone that has high-end features.
My first impressions of the phone came not just in [...]

Smartphones Now: The BlackBerry

December 21st, 2007

An anecdote.
Two years ago, my dumb school made me take an art class. Awful, yes. There were several classes that fulfilled the credit requirement, but for whatever reason I decided to take a film class. Actually, no. I know exactly why I took it: I figured it would be easy to skip so I [...]

Pantech Duo Review

December 21st, 2007

What would a week of “Smartphones Now” be without a review of a smartphone? A terrible one, I’m sure. So what are we going to look at today? The Duo from Pantech for AT&T. Not exactly the hottest smartphone on the market, but it does have a few qualities that are quite endearing. I’m also [...]

Smartphones Now: Not-so-smartphones

December 19th, 2007

Can anyone truly define what a smartphone is? It’s been something I’ve been asking everyone at CG and no one seems to know exactly what it is. Just about every phone on the market can be considered a smartphone if you believe it to be something that does anything other than making calls, but that’s [...]

Helio Player hits the street

December 13th, 2007

With all the hoopla swirling around the new YouTube client for the Helio Ocean, we forgot to mention that the new Helio Player for the Fin, Heat, Drift, and especially the Ocean. The player is an iTunes-esque media management program for PCs that allows you to more easily sync up music, videos, and photos with [...]

Mobile Browser Showdown: N95’s Opera vs iPhone’s Safari. Winner: Opera

December 13th, 2007

There has been some dispute over the speed of the browsers on these next-gen phones. N95 users say that the 3G connection makes all the difference, iPhone users say EDGE is just fine when you’ve got a great app like Safari. As it turns out, they seem to go at about the same speed in [...]

Helio’s Ocean granted hot new native YouTube app; Downloads and Uploads now both totally mobile

December 12th, 2007

I love YouTube. I mean I love it. I like unhinged videos of Mexican UFOs, crazy Japanese gameshows, and Lohan falling down. It’s unlimited entertainment, because there are more hours of content uploaded per day that there are hours in the day, meaning you could never possibly watch it all. And it’s all free.
Sadly, the [...]

Hands on with the Pantech Duo

December 6th, 2007

After a dreadful day of sitting on the couch, sleeping on the couch and playing Assassin’s Creed from the couch since I was under the weather yesterday, I return to the CrunchGear/TechCrunch office to find a UPS box waiting for me. What could it be?! Yeah, I know you already know since it’s blatantly obvious [...]

I don’t need anymore gadgets for Christmas, thank you very much

December 5th, 2007

To be perfectly honest I haven’t thought about what I’d want for Christmas until now. Like most of us at the Gear, I’m content with the arsenal of gadgets I own. My MacBook (despite my issues with Leopard, which is probably a hardware issue, anyways) is rock solid and perfect for what I do, doesn’t [...]
