The Unreasonable Stance: All About Linux 2008 edition: Linux sucks

March 27th, 2008

Welcome to the Unreasonable Stance, where our own Devin Coldewey takes the minority opinion on a tech matter and defends it with convenient data, spun numbers, fanboyism, and insults until he proves, without a doubt, that those that disagree with him are filthy mouth-breathers.
Why are we having a whole week dedicated to this runty OS? [...]

And they say sports and nerds don’t mix

March 21st, 2008

Denver’s Tim Kaebisch has been using his spare time recently to build a scale replica of Miller Park out of Legos, complete with working retractable roof.
It’s a labor of love for Kaebisch, he’s been working on this project in one respect or another for seven years.
I used to make X-Wing fighters and Transformers, he builds [...]

The march of the RoBeasts continues: Technics Robot Crab

March 18th, 2008

I’ve just downloaded an inexplicably large video (120mb for 30 seconds? It’s called YouTube, guys) of this crab doing its thing. It’s certainly not as cool as the BigDog robot from yesterday, but it’s also not a multi-million-dollar DARPA-funded military all-terrain bioroid. It’s for scrambling around on sea floors and taking samples or pictures. Like [...]

iPhone Lego appears to be ready to rock and from the soundtrack on this video, enjoys a spicy salsa beat.

First the iPhone gets Spore, now it gets Legos. What’s left?

March 10th, 2008

Spore, the ultimate sandbox video game, and Lego, the ultimate sandbox brick-based toy, are now both coming to the iPhone. It’s only a matter of time before Lincoln Logs and Candyland are part of its expanding game empire as well. Man, the iPod Touch is going to start cutting into the DS’s market share. Did [...]

PSP2 concepts: the good, the bad, and the lego

March 8th, 2008

I don’t really see the need for a PSP2 at this time, considering the best games are probably yet to come (by the looks of God of War), but that hasn’t stopped Kotaku from holding a contest to design a new version of Sony’s sexy little handheld.
Go give the guys a hand and vote something [...]

Video: DialogOS, voice control your robots so you can take over the world

March 7th, 2008

The video above demonstrates the DialogOS app being applied to a Lego Mindstorm kit. The demonstrator is asking how far objects are and the robot responds pretty quickly. Dr. Hajo Keffer gave us a quick rundown of what DialogOS does, what it’s capable of and how much it is in another video.
