Blockbuster went official with plans for a set-top streaming box last week and now the company CEO is stating that the same capability will soon be available in Blu-ray players as well. Allegedly this option will be available in the first quarter of 2009 but what player is going to have the option? The Playstation 3 perhaps?

A lot of things are riding on this UI redesign for Microsoft and the Xbox team, but more importantly it’s quelling the frustrations that many of us have had to deal with since the beginning of time. The blade interface was a good start, but it was frustrating at times and it certainly deterred me [...]

Remember Silverlight? Well, Netflix is putting Microsoft’s video playback system to good use by offering “Watch Instantly” functionality under OS X “by the end of the year.”
Since “Watch Instantly” was introduced about two years ago Macintosh and Linux users have been complaining bitterly about Netflix’s failure to offer the service on their browsers of choice. [...]

Confirming the leak from a few weeks back, Microsoft has confirmed that all 3 Xbox 360 models will be gettin’ price slashed as of September 5th.

Confirmation came Monday from Netflix that the movie rental giant is charging more for Blu-ray discs in a test program. No hard and fast pricing is available yet as the company is determining a pricing model. One thing for sure though, is that Blu-ray discs cost more, and Netflix is looking to pass along the [...]

Sony announced this week that they are slashing $100 off the price tag for the PS3. This fall, the 80-gigabyte version will be marked down from $500. The 40-gigabyte version, which sold for $400 will be discontinued.
At $400, the 80 GB configuration will be a direct competition with the new Xbox 60 GB model. [...]

Betting on the losing format isn’t such a bad thing for Microsoft. Sure they made an expensive peripheral HD-DVD player, but at least they didn’t integrate it, leaving gamers stuck with a costly price tag for the core console. But now that the format is dead and Blu-Ray is the winner, will the Xbox get [...]
