If you own a 5D Mark II, your probably had today marked on your calander as the day that Canon was going to update your camera. Afterall this firmware is a big deal as it adds the manual exporsure control that should have came with the camera originally. So if you 5D Mark II owners haven’t already, jump over to Canon’s website and download the latest firmware. Just make sure to hop back here when you’re finished. Thanks.
Time to break out the expense account, ladies and gentlemen. This is the Sea & Sea MDX-PRO 5D Mark II. It’s a fancy waterproof cover for the Canon 5D Mark II. It costs ¥280,000, or just under $3,000. Yeah
Watch the video after the break if you have any doubt that the Canon 5D Mark II with its 1080p recording mode was a game changer. Astounding that it came off of a $2699 DSLR. If you like this one, hit up the Vimeo link for the full collection.

PDNPulse found Vincent Laforets latest short flick shot with Canon’s latest HD camera. Again, the visuals are stunning and remember that this was captured on a DSLR, not a “true” video camera.

Looks like the 5D mk II isn’t immune to the skew produced by a rolling shutter, although it performs better than the D90 for sure — and I’m sure a careful shooter can produce some very impressive footage with either one. Although you mainly notice it in the video above when abnormal shaking movements are made, that kind of issue can really mess with the natural look of a medium-speed pan — say, tracking a car passing the camera.
Another problem occurs in flickery light, for instance some fluorescents, which may be lighter or darker in certain parts of the frame due to interference between the light’s “frequency” and the camera’s electronic shutter speed. Oh well, the camera’s still sweet as hell. [Thanks for the tip, Mike, and tell me if I'm getting it wrong]

Hot on the heels of the D90 we find the 21-megapixel EOS 5D Mark II, a $2,699 monster with a 50-25,600 ISO range with a full-frame 24×36mm CMOS sensor. The kit with lens costs $3,499.
Most interestingly is the 1920 x 1080 pixel HD video at 30 fps. While these new video features are a bit hard to stomach – DSLRs take pictures well but rarely take good video – but clearly some of this tech is getting more and more impressive. It’s basically a nice value-add.
The camera also has live view on screen along with standard views through the viewfinder. Let’s call it a “really nice camera” for professionals and the rich and leave it at that, shall we? That doesn’t mean I don’t covet this camera. I covet, friends. I covet.
Press release below.

Oh man, if only I were very, very rich. To have a full-frame professional SLR, the joy! So it looks like the upcoming 5D Mk II is going to be an interesting camera. Its detail retention at 12800 ISO is supposed to be equal to the previous 5D’s at 3200, which is fantastic and represents nearly a 2-stop advantage. This means sharper, clearer pictures at higher shutter speeds in lower light — the holy grail of sports and nature photographers.
This is possible because the Mk II is rumored to use a next generation CMOS with “vastly improved” light-gathering capability and signal/noise ratio. It will also have a new version of the Digic III image processor. It’s supposed to be announced on April 22 and be available in early June for ~$3500. Hit the links or the [more] for the full specs.
5D II Spec Sheet I & II [DP Review forums, via Photography Bay]

Some slightly shady sources have suggested that Canon will be rolling out the 5D Mark II soon, possibly at the PMA convention in a couple weeks. If only I could have stayed in Vegas! AVN then PMA! There’s nothing solid, but some unnamed Canon reps seem to think we’ll be getting a couple surprises at the show, which hopefully will include the long-awaited update to their pro-level full-frame DSLR.
More Canon 5D Mark II Rumors [Photography Bay]

Ho ho ho! All of you folks looking for the 5D Mark II might be pleasantly surprised to find out that Capture One added the camera to their website’s error reporting page, suggesting that someone had lunch with someone at Canon maybe like last week and that someone heard that other someone say “Yeah, don’t put the 5D Mark II on your site yet, dude. God. The waitress is smokin’” and the person from Capture One forgot to tell the web designer who was working from maybe Canon’s spring catalog and who just added the 5D Mark II and the guy who had lunch with the Canon guy is right now peeing himself and will yell at and fire the web designer later today, just in time for the holidays. The web designer, in turn, will go home and tell his/her sig. other that he/she’s been fired and there will be this quiet moment before the sig. other says “That job sucked anyway. [Guy who went to lunch with Canon guy] is a [flaming douche, or whatever gentle thing a woman might say in this situation, maybe like 'jerk']” and then guy at Capture One will stare idly out the window until 5 o’clock and go home, just like he does every day, and masturbate and eat frozen burritos.
