SONY INTRODUCES TWO NEW 1080p SXRD FRONT HOME THEATER PROJECTORS

DENVER, Sept. 3, 2008 (CEDIA Booth #600) – Sony Electronics today unveiled two full high-definition 1080p BRAVIA® projectors (models VPL-VW70 and VPL-HW10) offering more choices for customers looking for the ultimate home theater viewing experience.

The new 1920 x 1080 progressive Silicon X-tal Reflective Display (SXRD™) projectors feature 24p True Cinema™ technology, delivering film-like performance.

Built for the home theater enthusiast, the VPL-VW70 features 60,000:1 dynamic contrast, brightness of 800 ANSI lumens.

The model can accept an external anamorphic lens (sold separately) that, when paired with Sony’s Anamorphic Zoom Mode, allows users to take full advantage of panel resolution and screen size while watching a movie with native aspect ratio of 2.35:1. When Anamorphic Zoom is selected through the remote, the VPL-VW70 will output a trigger signal that can be used to activate the optional lens and screen transition to maximize the theater experience with a 2.35:1 movie.

For customers looking to enter the full HD home theater at a value, Sony’s VPL-HW10 model features a 30,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, 1,000 ANSI lumens for brighter room applications.

Specifically designed with the custom installation market in mind, the projectors are also equipped with a panel alignment adjustment function that aligns each red, green and blue pixel for precise images. The adjustment range is +/-2 pixel in 1/10 pixel steps. The VPL-VW70 takes it a step further with panel zone alignment allowing users to further calibrate the picture. The model also adds a unique automatic lens cover that helps protect the lens from dust.

Both models feature the BRAVIA Engine 2™ all-digital video signal processing engine with unique algorithms for noise reduction and color enhancement to deliver sharp, vibrant images.

The VPL-VW70 projector will be available in November for about $8,000, while the VPL-HW10 unit will be available in September for about $3,500. Both models will be offered direct at Sony Style® retail stores nationwide and authorized dealers around the country.

Damn, if you squint your eyes you just may be able to see the Iogear DVI Net ShareStation. It’s a small box you put onto your home network that then lets up to six different computers share the same monitor. (You plug the monitor into the box, then the box into the network.) It supports resolutions up to 1600×1200, so you’re not sacrificing too much screen real estate by sharing with your amigos.

If you’re so inclined, you can add an additional monitor to the whole setup by plugging one into the USB port.

It debuts at the CEDIA trade show (lots of home entertainment goodies) next week. Maybe by then we won’t need the Hubble to see it.

IRVINE, Calif., Sept. 2 /PRNewswire/ — CEDIA — With IOGEAR’s DVI Net
ShareStation, multiple users on a network can now share information, such
as work presentations or signage displays, using one monitor. The product
will be on display at the CEDIA EXPO, September 3-6, 2008 at booth # 468.

Users simply connect the DVI Net ShareStation to the desired monitor
with the included DVI / VGA adapter, and plug the device into an Ethernet
network to establish communication with other computers on the network.
Reducing cable clutter and eliminating short distance limitation, the
product allows digital signage professionals to share displays from a
central location without installing expensive wiring. The device is a
cost-effective solution for expanding networking video while maintaining
high-quality resolutions (up to 1600 x 1200). Installers can use this
device to outfit a small office or home to allow up to six users on a
network to access one monitor for viewing work documents or family video.
Users can also add an external display to their system by connecting the
product to a USB port.

IOGEAR is also announcing the availability of its Powerline Stereo
Audio System, a cost-effective solution to stream music through the
household via powerlines. The product consists of a docking station, which
can play CDs, cell phones, iPods and MP3 players, and a receiver to place
anywhere throughout the home. By connecting the receiver to an
independently-powered speaker, individuals can distribute lossless audio to
any desired location in the house or even to an outside patio, up to 990
feet, to entertain guests.

“At IOGEAR, we recognize the need for innovative tools that simplify
work spaces and enrich new-age homes at a low cost,” said Miranda Su,
executive vice president at IOGEAR. “Our DVI Net ShareStation and Powerline
Stereo Audio System are great additions to our product family and further
our commitment to excellence for consumer-friendly digital solutions.”

The products are available immediately from all major catalog and
online resellers, as well as select retail outlets. The DVI Net
ShareStation ($199.95 MSRP) comes with IOGEAR’s three-year warranty.
Consumers can pick up the Powerline Stereo Audio System for $379.95 with a
standard three-year warranty. These products and more innovative A/V
solutions from IOGEAR will be on display at the CEDIA EXPO 2008 at booth #
468.

Sherwood is the latest with the pre-show leaks and we can’t wait to peek these Blu-ray players. The BDP-6003 should have a sticker price of $499 and fully support BD Live. The $299 BDP-5003 loses the Blu-ray Profile 2.0 cert along with BD Live support, but both models sport HDMI 1.3 output and an Ethernet port for easy upgrades. The pricier BDP-6003 is only going to be sold in certain channels and the lesser expensive model is meant for the Best Buy / Circuit City crowd when they drop sometime during September. No pictures just yet, but as soon as we spy ‘em at the show, we’ll send over an update.

Polk Audio plans on launching one of the first outdoor capable subwoofer and satellite speaker system at this years CEDIA Expo. Pics are not available yet, but what we do know is that the system will be comprised of new, Atrium series speakers, each with an outdoor theme. The Atrium Sat 30 speakers are designed like outdoor lighting fixture and sport a $150 price each. The down-firing subwoofer should look like a round, paintable, flat-top terra-cotta plant stand and also have the same $150 price. So if our math is right, a playboy can have a rock’n Polk Audio 5.1 system for $900. We’ll have more deets next week at CEDIA.

Vudu has big plans for their IP-based content delivery service. Big plans and we don’t mean that .99 cent rental thing.

That’s a lot of high-def content. More than any service we can think of. But also, the company wants to help recovery lost movies due to a hard drive failure by offering a lifetime content warranty. That’s very kind of Vudu; you did pay for the flicks in the first place.

The long-term future of Vudu maybe in question — after all, how many digital delivery systems do we need — but if they lead the HD title race, they just might have a bright future. More info certainly to come at CEDIA.
