CrunchGear and TechCrunch are hosting a special event tomorrow, April 30 (Wednesday) in San Francisco – a special screening of the movie Iron Man, two days before the official May 2 release.
We’ve rented out the largest theater we could find in the area – The AMC Metreon in San Francisco, which will hold 600 people. Everyone is welcome to attend, and the movie starts at 7:15 pm (you can arrive as early as 6:30).
If you’d like to come, you can purchase a ticket at EventBrite for $1 (the goal is to minimize no shows, which means empty seats). We will check your name against a list of registered attendees at the door.
Why are we doing this? Just to say thank you to our readers and encourage warm fuzzy, advertisement-clicking feelings in you all.
Details:
AMC Loews Metreon 16 with IMAX
101 4th St
San Francisco, CA 94103
(415) 369-6201 Tickets
After the movie we’ll meet at the 4th Street Bar and Grill for drinks, unless you commenters have a better idea.
Iron Man comes to us next week, and we are stoked bloggers. Sure, this isn’t a movie site, but we’ve moved beyond just gear into the CrunchLifestyle, and that includes all things awesome like Iron Man himself.
Live Science has put together a neat little gallery and run-down of real-life Iron Man-type power suits that actually exist, including the HAL and Sarcos XOS exoskeletons.
This is power armor, letting you lift heavy burdens and do other physically tiring tasks with no trouble.
Sure, they don’t look as cool as Iron Man’s armor, but then they weren’t designed by Tony Stark either.
This is the final game trailer for Sega’s Iron Man and we should be getting a preview of it this weekend at the NY ComiCon. Nicholas and I will be hitting the floor to see what’s cool and what’s not. So stick around and in the meantime, enjoy the trailer.
Excited for Iron Man yet? The game’s May 2 release date—one day after the CrunchGear party, for the record—draws nearer. As such, tidbits of gameplay information continue to trickle out, today being no different. A handful of screenshots of unlockable armor have surfaced, much to the delight of Peter “Iron-Man-This-Iron-Man-That” Ha. It’s all he talks about in the chat room.
With Iron Man just a few weeks away from hitting the big screen, there’s been some talk in the video game circles abut the game, and today Sega revealed all the powerful armors available to Iron Man in the new game, and they look pretty sweet.
Not only are the suits from the movie represented, but a couple of comic book faves are here as well, including my favorite, the Classic, shown above.
If you’re looking forward to the game, check it out. I hope the game is as good as the movie looks.
Sega’s upcoming “Iron Man” video game launch will coincide with the theatrical release on May 2 and I’m, well, pretty ecstatic. I haven’t been this excited for a comic book-based movie to come out since “Batman Begins” and I have high hopes for it as I’m sure most of you do too. We haven’t covered the game so much here at the Crunch, but to get everyone, including ourselves, psyched for both I’ve compiled all known videos, concept art and screen shots for you to enjoy all at once. So Enjoy Now!
Clearly the MSM is working hard to find ways to build up Robert Downey Junior’s turn as Iron Man in the upcoming film of the same name. This usually means the movie will suck but in a cool yet ironic historical exegesis the Boston Globe’s Joshua Glenn explores the roots of Iron Man the comic book and “Iron Man” the song.
The Black Sabbath song is actually about a lead-booted monster rampaging through a horrified city. I originally thought that the song was about something like a golem and Glenn discovers that the Iron Man connection is fairly specious. In the song, the Iron Man “turned to steel in a great magnetic field” while in the comic book Tony Stark builds his iron suit while captive in an evil mastermind’s prison camp. It is possible that the band read the comic books, but excessive readings the origin story to find direct correlations are bit of a stretch. Read further down in the article and you also discover the song could be about homophobia, Freudian yonism, or a children’s book by Ted Hughes. I just hope they don’t screw this movie up like they did Daredevil.
We managed to get our hands on the special edition Iron Man version of the LG Shine and, boy oh boy, is it pretty. The back plate is 18k gooooooooold. I tried to walk away with it, but security tackled me. It happens.
Now this is an odd idea, indeed. A guy with my dad’s name (Mike Hickey) at Janco Partners is speculating that the release of GTAIV, arguably the most anticipated game of the year, could perhaps sap ticket sales from Iron Man.
Wait, what?
The reasoning is that they come out the same week, and that geeks will be too busy trying to beat the game to go out and see a dope-looking superhero film.
I guess it’s sort of like when everyone played Wookie-hooky when Episode I came out, except Iron Man isn’t going to blow Ewok.
This trailer isn’t new new (I saw it maybe a month ago before I Am Legend), but it was recently put up on IGN and if you haven’t seen it, now’s your chance. The movie’s coming out on May 2nd, 2008 starring Robert Downey Jr. and directed by Jon Favreau.
I know, I know. This has nothing to do with gadgets or gear, but I know many of you have an interest in the upcoming Iron Man movie. Well, I guess it does have to do with gadgets. Tony Stark’s Iron Man armor is constantly evolving and kicking more ass with every mod, so what was revealed at Comic-Con is baffling. It looks more like the The Iron Giant doesn’t it? The Gauntlet looks to be way more promising. Check it out and voice your opinion. Read More
The recent onslaught of cartoon/comic book based movies have left me wondering whether I’ll even bother paying the $11 it costs to see the next adaptation of a favorite and I’m sure some of you will agree. Did anyone go and see Ghost Rider? I didn’t think so. Let’s hope Iron Man resurrects my faith in comic book movies.
