LG

Let’s talk about the word “unveiled” on gadget sites. Unveiled is a weasel world. It means “revealed” and suggests that the company in question is showing off something that it will make soon. It is used at CES, for example, with CES Unveiled where you see product that will be announced ahead of time and then actually released much later. So in this case it is more a revelation of things to come, in the biblical sense, and less an actual revelation.

It’s all about the home network storage these days. As more and more companies jump into the ring with their products, it’s all about the added features. It’s not enough just to build a basic device these days, everyone wants added features. LG is throwing their hat into the ring with the N2R1.

This is pretty much the silliest thing I’ve seen ever. LG is touting borderless TVs. What does that mean? They’re making the border around he TV black and the front of the TV flat.

Video: LG’s AMOLED display is mighty thin – miiiighty thin

1.7mm. Well! I remember when I was impressed by a third of an inch — a comparably girthy 8mm. These LG TVs use AMOLED technology, which pretty much is the business except for cost and size limitations right now. Keep in mind that the guts of the TV aren’t contained in that thin part — but the fact that it can stand alone means that the CPU and such can all be hidden or even remote.

Pip pip, guv’nor! How’s about a shine? Right-o. Grand pair of shoes, guv’nor. ‘Tis a pleasure to apply paste to the likes of these. S’that? Aye, I’ve got a Nokia, nice phone. Me bird got it for me. Pre-paid.

Cor, crikey! A watch phone! On Orange? ‘Tis not every day a fellow sees the likes of that. Might I ask how much something like that cost? 500 quid! Crikey! A bit of fluff that ain’t, I might say. Roit. On to the shine…

Oh man, Devin is going to be upset. He is enamored with the LG GD910, but I have a feeling that the price is a tad too rich for him. There was a rumor that it was going to be pricey and sure enough, Orange France is going to sell it with at €899 ($1,290) on-contract.

LG has just announced the SL80 and SL90 series televisions, televisions so strikingly beautiful that peace has broken out in the Middle East and Cher has finally forgiven Sonny in her heart.

The SL80 (above) and 90s (below) have an edge to edge, bezel-less design with motion smoothing and improved contrast ratio.

• The SL80 series utilizes slim CCFL technology with TruMotion 240Hz to achieve its dramatically thin profile and provide superior picture quality. Delivering consumers a compelling visual experience, the SL80 series is less than 1.8 inches thick at its slimmest point. The SL80 will be available beginning in August, in 42-, 47-, and 55-inch class screen sizes* at MSRPs of $1,599.95, $1,899.95 and $2,799.95 respectively.
• The SL90’s LED display technology provides enhanced picture quality and energy efficiency. The SL90 series will be released later this year in 42- and 47-inch class screen sizes* at MSRPs to be announced later.

Vudu had a great run. The company made boxes you set up near your TV that could download stream HD video without glitches, a sort of Netflix On Demand, as it were, without the popularity.

Well, Vudu is teaming up with LG to offer Vudu streaming in their new LH50 and PS80 TVs which puts their position as one of the better and more promising hardware providers and video streaming services in serious doubt.

Good news, pre-paid fans! You’ve got a new handset coming to your corner of the market. We can’t promise anything for sure, but we’ve got good reason to believe that Virgin Mobile will be getting the LG Rumor 2 sometime in the coming weeks.

by Greg Kumparak on July 13, 2009

You know, we would write a nice, well thought out post about the LG LX290. We’d make a joke or two at its expense for being a bit on the ugly side, point out the 1.3mp camera, and then come up with some way to make this thing sound intriguing.

But we can’t do that.

Remember that stupid LG watch phone from CES? It’s on its way!

The $2,000 watch will run on GSM networks and will “turn heads on High Street” provided you’re also wearing assless chaps.

HDTVs are increasingly becoming Internet appliances as much as they are televisions. The latest trend from all the major manufacturers are to include widgets and local network access which is pushing the limits of the custom CPUs. This is why LG has shifted focus away from making the central CPU itself, and outsourced the work to ARM.

LG has reportable chosen the ARM11 MPCore Processor to do the dirty in upcoming HDTVs. This chip is a multi-core CPU that, along with the ARM Mali graphics chip, should eliminate everyone’s main complaint about on-TV widgets: lag.

It was first shown to the general public back in February, and now LG gave us some more concrete info about their LG-GD900, which is – according to LG – the world’s first cell phone featuring a transparent keypad. The aptly (code-)named Crystal is due out in as much as 40 different countries starting next month already.

LG has launched an amusing (and for some, useful) application that enables you to translate over 2000 words teens tend to use when they’re sending text messages to regular English, and the other way around. The tool is called DTXTR and the aim is to let is keep you in the know of what these kids are txting bout these days, xactli.

Frankly, there are a lot of basic words that can’t be converted to ‘teen text’ with the tool yet, but you can always submit a term for inclusion in the glossary. And if you want to test your own mad txt skills, you can do a little quiz on the site to see if you’re up with the times or not.

There’s nothing really inherently exciting about a shot of the back of a phone. To be honest, there’s not really anything about the LG enV3 that gets us excited. But if you look real close at this picture right here, you’ll see one previously unleaked gem that might get you a bit more interested in this phone. Maybe. Probably not.

For just a few hours early this morning, a post heralding the LG Viewty II could be seen at LG’s official German blog. Apparently it went up too early, because it was pulled down within hours – because that somehow fixes things.

First announced at CES, Yahoo!’s widget engine, Connected TV, is now shipping with the Samsung 7000 series LED HDTV, which starts at $2500. The 7000 series Samsung LED HDTVs can either be wired into your home network or connected through a wireless router that costs an extra $80 from Samsung.

The widgets essentially let you surf the Web while you’re catching up on some boob tube. There are shortcut buttons on the TV controller itself and new widgets can be downloaded via the Widget Gallery. Here you can find widgets for Twitter, USA Today Sports, Flickr, Netflix, Amazon, The NYT, Yahoo! News, Yahoo! Weather and Yahoo! Finance.

If you’re lookin’ for a barebones QWERTY candybar on the cheap, Sprint and Sanyo have a handset you should see. Well, they will in May.

We’re not quite sure why they announcing this one a whole month early, but Sprint and Sanyo have let it be known that the SCP-2700 will be hitting the shelves (exclusively at Sprint) come May 10th.
