Thinking of buying a Logitech keyboard or mouse? Now would be a good time. You can get the opulent G19 keyboard for $150 (technically, big savings), a G9x for $75, a G500 for $45, or a Performance MX for $75. And everything’s got free shipping!

Seriously, Logitech makes some of the best mice in the world, and these are great deals. For gaming, either of the G series mice will do, but for regular tasks, multiple CG writers swear by the Performance MX (or at least its MX revolution cousin). The deals are all at LogicBuy, which must have hijacked a truckload of these things.

Found all these over at Tom’s Hardware, where they’ve got a few more deals of this sort today.

Ok, so the Harmony 1100 requires you to buy an RF module. It’s still a pretty cool bit of kit, and will definitely pimp out your pad if you’re looking for a remote with a screen. It’s also relatively easy to set up, and for $300? That’s a screaming deal on a high end, non-candy bar style remote. It’s available on Amazon.com, and shipping in free.

Normally though, they are really expensive and perhaps out of the reach of the casual buyer. Good news though, Tiger Direct has one hell of a deal on the 670, a IR remote designed to work with pretty much everything out there.

You’ve got to admit, $39.95 is a pretty good deal. The remote is refurbished, so be aware, however Logitech does warranty the remote for 90 days parts and labor, so you should be pretty safe. Plus, buying one non-refurbished will set you back about $100. You’d be buying it through Ebay, and shipping is free to the continental US. Here’s a list from Logitech of what devices are supported by the H670.

When I think of Logitech gaming keyboards, I picture large, oddly shaped creations because that’s what they traditionally look like. However, the new G110 throws out those styling cues for something a little more minimalistic and I like it.

The G110 might not have LCD screens or futuristic color schemes like its G19 or G15 big brothers, but it also has a lot lower price at $79. Plus, it maintains customizable backlighting, on-the-fly macro recording, 15 dedicated macro buttons, and it even adds USB audio to the mix. But it’s the styling that draws me in. Dare I call it sexy? It’s sleek, clean, and thin. Logitech has finally made a gaming keyboard that can easily blend into a work environment.

Want it? The G110 carries a $79.99 MSRP and is currently available for a pre-order. No word on when it will ship out though.

The Harmony 700 just works. It doesn’t look as fancy as the 900, but I don’t care. What I care about in a remote is the most functionality for the lowest price. And let me tell you that this remote scores high in that area. I don’t care if I spoil the review, I just have to say that I love this remote.

The Logitech Harmony 700 is the perfect combination of form and function at the right price. It’s super comfy to hold and the buttons are firm. At first glance, the buttons seem a tad small, but I found them to work just fine. I never once wished the buttons were larger.

The screen isn’t the greatest, but it gets the job done because you really don’t use it all that much. The remote’s top buttons are dedicated to activities and if the remote is set up properly, a physical button is probably somewhere on the remote to do whatever you need it to. But just in case there isn’t, you can program anything as a soft button with the LCD screen.

The Harmony 700 is set up just like every other Harmony remote via an Internet-connect computer. A software wizard guides users through all the steps. If you know your model numbers and how everything is connected, the whole process shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes.

The remote is powered by two AA batteries that are – get this – recharged via microUSB. I love that! The remote comes with a charger/USB cable, but a standard cell phone charger works too. Or if the remote dies when it’s not convenient to recharge it, just throw in two AA batteries.

Recommendation:

I love this remote. That should be clear. But I don’t think you should buy it right now. No, the year-old Harmony One is $150 brand new online. That’s a better deal. It comes with a charging station, more sex appeal, and a bigger LCD screen. However, if you can’t find a deal on the One or this guy drops in price, I don’t see why you shouldn’t buy it. It’s a great remote.

Pros:

Great ergonomics

Firm buttons

Rechargeable via microUSB

Very easy to program

Great starting MSRP of $150

Cons:

Logitech’s got a new lap board doodad on the market called the Portable Lapdesk N315. It’s a $30 accessory with a non-slip grip and slide-out mouse pad.

There I go again, putting all the pertinent details in the first paragraph with total disregard for how I’m going to fill out the rest of the post. Oh, it fits laptops up to 15.6 inches. And it’s washable.

The $30 price tag seems a little bit on the pricey side but you may be able to find it for less at various retailers. If you have a sweet apartment with a spiral staircase like the dude in the above photo, though, you’re probably not to worried about spending $30 on something like this.

Limitless Choices: Logitech Brings Your Digital Music Together, Unveils Two
New Squeezebox Wi-Fi Music Players

Logitech Squeezebox Radio, Logitech Squeezebox Touch Deliver All The Music
On Your Computer, All The Music On Internet Into Your Home;
Feature Streamlined Interface, Facebook App

FREMONT, Calif. – Sept. 3, 2009 — You’re a 21st century music lover but
your stereo is stuck in the 20th century. To help bring the digital world
into your home, Logitech (SIX: LOGN) (NASDAQ: LOGI) today unveiled the
Logitech Squeezebox™ Radio Wi-Fi music player and the Logitech Squeezebox™
Touch Wi-Fi music player. Both Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi music players give
people simple, intuitive access to a wide variety of music choices
including free Internet radio, personal digital music files and music
subscription services.

“Digital music and the Internet have radically changed how we discover,
share and listen to the music we love,” said Sam Feng, product marketing
director of Logitech’s Streaming Media business unit. “Now, millions of
people are downloading music through iTunes® and listening to Internet
radio stations and music services and our newest Logitech Squeezebox Wi-Fi
music players bring it all together. Just plug one in and you can be ready
to discover and enjoy music from around the world.”

Logitech Squeezebox Radio – Small Package, Big Sound

The Internet has changed everything, including your radio. With the
Logitech Squeezebox Radio, you’ll get the simplicity of old-fashioned radio
with the power of the Internet wherever you want to listen to music.

Unlike other complex Wi-Fi music systems, Squeezebox Radio sets up easily.
You just plug it in, turn it on, connect to your home network and like
magic, you’ve got access to a world of music – Internet radio, your
personal music collection including DRM-free iTunes Plus downloads, and
subscription services such as Napster®, Pandora®, Rhapsody®, SIRIUS®, and
Last.fm™. And the Squeezebox Radio’s color screen can display album art,
track and station information, visualizers and more.

With six preset buttons located on the side of display, at the touch of a
button the Squeezebox Radio makes it easy to enjoy your favorite song,
Internet radio station or playlist. With automatic brightness adjustment
and a built-in alarm clock, the Logitech Squeezebox Radio is even ideal for
your bedside table. And if you want to listen to music in private, a 3.5 mm
jack lets you plug in your headphones.

At just 5.12 inches (130 mm) by 8.66 inches (220 mm) by 5.04 inches (8.5
cm), the compact design makes the Squeezebox Radio ideal for your living
room, kitchen, bedroom – even your patio. While it’s a space-saver, the
Squeezebox Radio still delivers clear sound with minimal distortion – no
extra speakers required – thanks to the 3/4-inch high-definition, soft-dome
tweeter and 3-inch high-power, long-throw woofer.

For your convenience, a rechargeable battery pack that is sold separately
will let you move the Squeezebox Radio around your home without
interrupting the music. The battery can power your Squeezebox Radio for up
to six hours and recharges automatically when it’s plugged in.

Logitech Squeezebox Touch – Color Touch Screen Puts Music at Your
Fingertips

So you can seamlessly discover a world of music and play it through the
stereo system you already own, the Logitech Squeezebox Touch Wi-Fi music
player has a stunning 4.3-inch color touch screen that lets you easily
select and play music – and even view album art. Plus, to provide a better
listening experience, the Squeezebox Touch supports sampling rates of up to
24 bits at 96 kHz, delivering rich sound with very little distortion.
Simply plug in the Squeezebox Touch to your existing speakers, connect to
your home network and you’re ready to rock out. An included USB port and SD
card slot on the back of the Squeezebox Touch also lets you access music
and photos stored on flash drives and memory cards.

To put control within reach, a wall-mount bracket (sold separately) lets
you put your Squeezebox Touch at eye level – near the stereo, over your
kitchen table or wherever you want convenient control of your music. With
the optional Logitech Squeezebox Touch Wall-Mount Bracket, the power cord
and speaker wires can be run inside your walls so cords or cables aren’t
dangling from your Squeezebox.

Streamlined Interface, Facebook App and Flickr Support

The intuitive Squeezebox interface was designed for speed and convenience.
The color display found on the Squeezebox Radio and Squeezebox Touch help
you quickly locate your favorite radio stations, playlists or music
services. And, with its redesigned menu system, you can easily choose from
a variety of applications to enhance your listening experience.
Plus, if you’re a Facebook fan, you can share music recommendations, as
well as check out your friends’ statuses, recommendations, and full-color
photos right on your new Squeezebox. Photo slide shows from the popular
photo-sharing site Flickr are also supported on both new Squeezebox Wi-Fi
music players.

The Squeezebox Family

Both the Logitech Squeezebox Radio and Logitech Squeezebox Touch can
seamlessly integrate into your existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet-based home
network, as well as with the Squeezebox family of products, which includes
the award-winning Logitech Squeezebox™ Boom Wi-Fi music player, Logitech
Squeezebox™ Duet Wi-Fi music player, and the audiophiles’ choice, the
Logitech Transporter® Wi-Fi music player.

All of the products in the Squeezebox family work together so it’s easy to
expand your system. Simply add additional Squeezebox Wi-Fi media players to
any room you like and then you can listen to one song throughout your
entire home – perfect for a party – or enjoy a different song in every
room.

Pricing and Availability

The Logitech Squeezebox Radio Wi-Fi music player is expected to be
available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in September for a suggested
retail price of $199.99 (U.S.). For a limited time, a special edition
Logitech Squeezebox Radio Wi-Fi music player will be available in red at
http://www.logitech.com and select retailers. The Logitech Squeezebox Touch
Wi-Fi music player is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe
beginning in December for a suggested retail price of $299.99 (U.S.). The
Logitech Squeezebox Radio Accessory Pack (which includes a battery pack and
IR remote) is expected to be available in the U.S. and Europe beginning in
November for a suggested retail price of $49.99 (U.S.). The Logitech
Squeezebox Touch Wall-Mount Bracket is expected to be available in the U.S.

Now that the Harmony 900 has effectively taken the top tier away from the older Harmony One, Logitech needed a suitable remote for the bottom tier. That’s where the $150 Harmony 700 comes in. From the presser, it seems that this new remote might simply be a slightly stripped down Harmony One. The look isn’t that clean, the LCD screen is smaller, and the charging system a little janky with AAs, but it’s still got what makes a Harmony special: dead simple macro setup thanks to great PC software.

The overall look is almost a combination of the One and the old 659. A row of macro buttons curve along the top and the rest of the buttons following the same layout as the One/900. That’s fine, it works. Hopefully the actual LCD screen looks as sharp as it does in the press shot too.

We should get our review sample later today, so check back for a hands-on followed by a full review. I have a feeling though that we’re going to end up recommending the Harmony One, which can be had for the same price online as the 700’s MSRP. That is, of course, Internet retailers don’t heavily discount the 700 too.

I wanted to love this remote. The Harmony One has a great form factor, and I was hoping that Logitech would add its current RF system to the mix. But that didn’t happen with the $400 Harmony 900. Instead, Logitech attempted to simplify the RF setup even though the current method is easy enough and managed to muck things up. The remote’s nice, but crippled by a lackluster RF system and therefore nowhere near the best remote I have ever used.

Things I like

The Harmony One was a welcome update to Logitech’s line of universal remotes a few years ago. It feels good in the hand, the buttons are nice enough, and the charging system is bulletproof. Thankfully, the Harmony 900 has the same exact form factor and charging system. The top touchscreen is responsive and bright, although a little on the small side. The physical buttons have just enough resistance behind them and work well. The form factor is nice.

There are some differences between the One and the 900. The 900 sports a slightly different color scheme, along with themes for the top LCD screen.

Setup is easy. Logitech includes a program that installs a Web-based program that guides you through all the steps. It took me about five minutes to configure the remote. It may take a little longer for you if you don’t know model numbers, how everything is connected, and if you don’t have high-speed Internet. But if you do, it’s a breeze. I just wish Logitech would make an off-line program like Universal Remotes. I’ve had to leave a person’s house and find a hotspot to install a few remotes before.

I have to give Logitech props for making the RF system easy to configure. Now it’s done on the remote itself instead of on the PC. This means you can adjust things when you’re right next to the equipment, which is really handy if you aren’t using a laptop to install the remote.

Things I don’t like

The only reason a person would buy the Harmony 900 over the One is for the RF capabilities. This allows owners to stuff their equipment in a closest – or downstairs in my case – and control the whole system through the magic of radio frequency. I’ve used and tested five different RF remote systems over the years and never had an issue before. I have an issue with the Harmony 900, though.

Most RF systems have a range of about 100 feet depending on physical walls and wireless interference. The Harmony 900 remote has a range of about 20 feet even though the product description clearly indicates 100 feet. That means that I can use the remote just fine in the front part of my house, but not in the kitchen, which is apparently too far away from my equipment stashed in the basement, away from prying eyes and little fingers.

Part of the joy of having the AV equipment elsewhere is that you generally don’t have to worry about where you point the remote. Or you can crank the tunes in other parts of the house. RF remotes are great, but this remote fails miserably. The 20 feet range is just barely enough to reach all parts of my living room. However, if I step one foot through my kitchen door, it doesn’t work. It’s not a huge deal if you have a simple system, but if you have speakers located throughout your house or have video streaming to different rooms, this limited range is a deal breaker. Plus, everyone’s walls are different so YMMV.

But it’s just not the range I have beef with, it’s the implementation of the IR blasters. For some reason Logitech felt the need to design new IR blasters that sit on a shelf instead of sticking to the front panel of the device. This means that AV geeks that spent good money on equipment racks cannot use this remote because there probably isn’t a shelf available when the gear is flush-mounted. I can’t use the IR blasters on my office system because of the lack of shelf. Logitech didn’t need to reinvent the wheel, the mini IR blasters used by the industry for years work fine.

The new blasters use a 2.5mm jack instead of the standard 3.5mm plug, so your current IR blasters probably will not work.

I guess it wouldn’t be that big of a deal if the range was limited, but the remote also displays a error message when it’s out of range which requires the user to acknowledge it. This same error message pops up when the remote is giving a ramping command like volume control or navigation. For instance, if you hold down the volume button, that same message pops up as if the remote is having trouble communicating with the RF system even if the remote is within range.

I do need to point out that this is my second Logitech Harmony 900. The first one only had a range of 5-10 feet. Logitech support was great and sent me out a second one though.

Conclusion

I love the Harmony 900, but hate the RF system. Perhaps I received two bad eggs. Idk. But I’m also thinking that a lot of the problems can be fixed with firmware updates. My recommendation would be to hold off for a while, since I have a feeling that eventually it will be the best sub-$500 remote available. I’ll update the remote in a few weeks and see if it improves the range at all.

Pros:

Great ergonomics

Seemingly reliable charging system

Very easy setup

Cons:

Crappy RF system

Weird IR blasters

Logitech’s newly announced mice, the Performance MX and Anywhere MX, make use of a brand new tracking technology that allows them to be used even on clear glass. Now, I had this same thought when Microsoft unveiled its Bluetrack mice: who uses their mouse on glass, or marble? I think the cases where this technology can come into play are extremely rare. I’m sure the “Darkfield” technology results in more accurate tracking on other surfaces as well, however, so it’s not like it’s a one-trick pony.

When I think about it, these are wireless mice made for taking with you places, so perhaps my initial estimate of how often one encounters glass could be a bit low. After all, when sitting outside at a cafe you may have a little glass table, and it would suck to be unable to use your mouse. The technology relies on the tiny scratches and dust particles invisible to the human eye:

He seems pretty pumped.

Like most Logitech stuff, the performance comes at a price. At $100, the Performance MX is shaped like the much-loved MX Revolution, but it can charge during use via a cord and of course has the Darkfield tracking. The Anywhere MX ($80) is the more mobile of the two. Both have that scroll wheel that I love so much and of course Logitech is a reliably good mouse-maker. We’ll have full reviews of these in a bit but for now you can just fantasize about all the glass tables you can mouse on now.

This puppy will get users as close to racing around the ‘ring as possible. Just remember to bring your own HDTV and surround sound system to complete the experience.

The wheel is equipped with dual-motor force feedback with helical gearing! (I’m assuming that’s good) Plus the leather-wrapped steering wheel uses a precise optical sensor to ensure that it’s not the controllers fault when you eventually over-steer into a wall. Oh, there is so much more too. The controller has a separate box that houses a six-speed gearbox, along with a D-pad and buttons on a make-shift center console. The wheel has a 900-degree rotation. There are RPM and shift indicator LEDs. Oh, man. The controller has pretty much everything a $299 racing wheel should.

Eager to get your hands on one? First you should know that the wheel is only compatible with the PS2, PS3, and Windows. If you’re still interested, the G27 is slated for a September release, but if you’re sure it’s going to be worth your cash, pre-order it on Logitech’s site.

If the Logitech blog post about the new Logitech Wireless Desktop MK 700 is to be believed, the company has come up with a new type of key design. The Logitech Incurve keys apparently “cradle your fingers for greater comfort.” I’m all for keyboard innovation, but I think my standard white, full-size Apple keyboard also has concave keys.

Whatever. The new MX 700 is a wireless set and both the keyboard and mouse operate on a 2.4 GHz band. The top of the keyboard features a narrow LCD that displays the battery status, caps lock, FN, scroll lock, number lock, and mute. That battery status icon probably doesn't have to be there either as Logitech claims that the keyboard can run for three years on battery.

That's impressive, folks. That means you'll probably only have to install one set of batteries in the keyboard as something is bound to happen to the keyboard within three years. I mean, you could drop it, spill something on it, or just get plain bored with it and go Office Space on it.

The set retails for $99.99 and will be available later this month.

There might be a few hundred thousand iPod speaker docks available for purchase, but Logitech just added two more to the fray. Neither are really anything special, but they both seem to be priced right. The $129 S325i can be used on the included rechargeable battery for up to 20 hours. Plus, the large speaker dock will work with the iPhone. The smallish S125i is, well, small which is its claim to fame and the reason it’s only $69. This one is not iPhone compatible btw but can run off of 4 AA batteries. If either of these docks do it for ya, you can pre-order them now and expect delivery later this month.

The new mouse seems like a mash-up between the couple year-old G5 gaming mouse and the MX Revolution line which should be a match made in heaven. The G5000 gets all the gaming hardware found in the G5 (and G9x) like a high-res, 5700 dpi sensor that can be adjusted on the fly and removable weights for further customization. But while the texture looks a lot like the original G5, the shape is clearly designed off of the MX line with a larger thumb rest and more of a pinkie ledge – that’s what they call it, serious. Plus this guy sports the amazing hyper-fast scrolling wheel and 10 programable buttons.

MaximumPC got their hands on a G500 and it at least looks like it could set the standard for gaming mice.

The new gaming headset might be a different story though. The new headset is one of those lightweight behind the ears-type that are comfortable, but don’t always have the best speakers. Who knows, maybe this set has high-end sound, but it was likely built for comfort over quality.

The G330 headset should be available sometime this month for $49 while the $69 G500 mouse doesn’t launch until next month.

There isn’t anything that impresses more than a touchscreen remote. Sure, the form factor is a little awkward at first, but damn are they sexy. When the Harmony 1000 remote debuted a few years ago, it carried an MSRP of $500. Now you can get the newer 1100 model for close to that or this one for only $147. I’d take this one.

You still get the IR and RF capability, along with a clever onscreen GUI. It can be somewhat slow at times compaired to the newer model, and some folks don’t like the form factor, but this is a deal at $147 even if it’s a refurbished model.

Now this just makes sense. Instead of having a receiver for every USB wireless device, Logitech managed to stuff the right goods into its Unifying receiver. This little guy can pair with up to six Unifying-compatible Logitech mice and keyboards at the same time, just like Bluetooth peripherals have been able to for ages. The first device should be picked up by Windows and each device after that just needs to be added through the Unifying software pack.
