Hot on the heels of our back to school week comes one of the most seemingly indispensable storage devices to date: The TrekStor USB stick with built-in bottle opener. Let’s face it, there have been a lot of stupid, dumb implementations of flash drives before (keychains, wristbands, necklaces, etc.) and a lot of brilliant implementations of bottle openers before (Reef’s “Fanning” sandals, for one) and it’s about time we got some crossover between the two.

The TrekStore flash drive comes in a solid, brushed aluminum housing and is available in capacities between one and 16 gigabytes. It’ll be available in October (hopefully it’ll make its way here) for between 6.99 and 49.99 Euro, depending on which capacity you choose – that’s about $10 to $70 US.

Yikes. Not good. Not good at all. South Hessia, Germany’s TrekStor has launched a new MP3 player in its “i.Beat” series called the “blaxx.”

Put that all together and you’ve got yourselves a nice little marketing/PR nightmare.

TrekStor announced today a line of devices that seeks to blur the line between computer hard drives and home media servers. The MovieStation maxi t.u. comes in sizes ranging from 250GB to 500GB.

The devices connect via USB 2.0 and can be used to play HDTV and multi-channel audio content. Additionally, they are compatible with several popular movie and music download services. It works with both 720p and 1080i high definition formats, so it will be compatible with pretty much every HDTV.

The MovieStation maxi t.u. is available now for prices ranging from $299.99 to $399.99.

TrekStor might be better known for their outrageously expensive MP3 player, but they will attempt to change this façade at CeBIT with a 3-1 HD setup. The 3.5-inch hard disk has a dual USB 2.0 hub and has a memory card reader that is capable of deciphering nine different formats. It’s an ideal media hub because of the 250GB ($160) and 400GB ($230) options. You can easily swap data from all your memory cards and it backs up with the click of a switch. Do you own an MP3 player that doesn’t bling (is that a verb?) enough for you? Do you feel the need to cover all of your possessions in gold and jewels? Do you have $20,000 lying around and have absolutely no use for it?

TrekStor is a German company that is just starting to make inroads here in the States. They’re offering two models with a rubberized scroll wheel and an amazing look. These are hard drive based with 8GB or 12GB and actually look like contenders for the Coolest MP3 Player trophy that I saw at the sporting goods store last week.

Why would anyone sane pay $19,999.99 for an MP3 player that doesn’t hold, say, 100TB of music? Because this player is cast in 18 karat gold and encrusted with jewels, that’s why. The 1GB TrekStor i.Beat gold MP3 player comes with Sennheiser headphones (probably $30), USB 2.0 cable ($5), line-in cable ($5), software CD ($2.99) and a guide ($1). So you’re really only paying $19,956 for the player and $43.99 for all the accessories.
