Green Dam, a filtering software that’s supposed to protect China’s population from harmful content (and can be called a piece of garbage on more than one level), seems to trigger anticipatory obedience (you could also call it business sense, I guess) within some PC companies. Even though the Chinese government postponed its plans to make the software mandatory with all PC shipments in the country from July 1, Acer, Asustek and Lenovo already bundle their hardware with Green Dam.

UPDATE – Information from Lenovo after the jump.

By a show of hands, who forgot about that unannounced Acer handset that Mr. BlurryCam spied a few months ago? It’s cool. That phone *might* turn out to be one of the four smartphones Acer still has on tap for this year.

Quick, you wanna buy this Acer easyStore before the deal expires. Newegg is throwing in an extra 1TB drive for the price of nothing. That means you get a 2TB WHS for only $399. Awesome!

acerAcer’s previously-reported Android netbook will apparently be shipping next month as a dual-boot XP/Android system.

The netbook fairy (or a UPS driver named Karl) just dropped off the 11.6-inch Aspire One 751h. I’ll be putting the machine through its paces for the next week or two for a thorough review but I wanted to check with you guys to see if there was anything in particular you’d like me to test. Just drop your requests in the comments section and I’ll try to address some or all of them in the final review.

Aside from that, here are some initial first impressions along with some photos.

acerIf you liked the smell of what Acer was cooking with the 11.6-inch Aspire One 751 netbook that was recently released but the relatively anemic 1.33GHz Atom CPU left a bad taste in your mouth, then prepare to cleanse your palate with the digital equivalent of crackers and unflavored water because Acer’s apparently prepping an 11.6-inch Timeline-series computer with an Intel ultra low voltage CPU.

004 Windows Home Servers are dropping in price and the Acer easyStore H340 is leading the charge; I like that. This server doesn’t offer a lot of extras like the HP MediaSmart line, but it’s amazingly low price outweighs everything else. Read More

AcerYikes, looks like Acer’s recently-released 11.6-inch Aspire One A0751h netbook might either be on its way out or headed for the bargain bin already.

AcerIt appears that, come hell or high water, companies are determined to push 3D features. Acer’s the latest, announcing a 15.6-inch notebook due in late October that features software to convert regular 2D movies into 3D, along with movies specifically shot in 3D.

androidLooks like those Android netbooks from Acer that are supposed to show up later this year will actually be dual-boot systems running Android and Windows.

CrunchDeals: 22-inch LCD for $112

acerWell hello, unbelievably low-priced 22-inch monitor.

If you need further proof that monitor prices, they are a-falling, here’s a 22-inch Acer for $99.99 plus $11.99 for shipping.

To be fair, it’s 21.6 inches but you get a 1680×1050 resolution, 300 cd/m2 brightness, and 2500:1 contrast ratio. Inputs include DVI-D and, presumably, VGA. No speakers but, hey, big whoop. Listen to your Discman instead.

acer androidAcer recently announced that it’ll be selling Android netbooks later this year. This will likely set off a round of news articles and opinion pieces calling for the death of Windows on netbooks. That’s not going to happen, though. I’d read this news as Acer using Android to replace the Linpus Linux Lite interface that the company currently offers on its Linux-powered netbook selections.

We just took delivery of Acer’s first Windows Home Server, the Acer easyStore H340. So far, so good. The machine is heavy and well made. It feels just as good as HP’s EX series. I am thinking that HP’s might have better cooling with a Mac Pro-type front, but we’ll run some tests and see if temperature is even an issue with the Acer. Hopefully this machine preforms as well as it looks.

If it does, HP has a problem as this 1TB WHS is only $399 verses the $647 post rebate price for its EX487 1.5TB model. That’s a big difference and it doesn’t matter how much extra software HP is loading on it. Price and storage is the most important selling points on these servers.

Anyway, click through for a gallery of unboxing pics.

HP had the Windows Home Server market all to itself until recently. First it was CyberPower, now Acer has entered the market with a small footprint WHS. The Acer Aspire easyStore AH340-UA230N might be the best deal out of all of them though.

acerAlthough Acer officially announced its 11.6-inch netbook, the Aspire One A0751h, on Monday as “available now,” nobody’s been able to find one in a US store, online or otherwise. A few of our readers have indicated that the machines are (or were) on display in their local Wal-Mart stores although nobody has been able to actually buy one.

acerAcer’s 11.6-inch netbook has been officially announced and released in the US. I can’t find a place to actually buy it yet, but it’s “available” according to a company press release, so look for them to pop up like netbook-shaped Whack-a-Moles at retailers everywhere.

acerLast week I said I had “high hopes” for Acer’s 11.6-inch Aspire One 751 netbook, citing the HD-resolution screen, large keyboard, and pleasing aesthetics. Pocket-lint recently reviewed the computer and, unfortunately, it seems as though my hopes may have been dashed.

by Doug Aamoth on May 1, 2009

acerPocket-lint.com has some real-life photos of Acer’s impending 11.6-inch netbook, the Aspire One 751, which was shown off at an event in London yesterday. The netbook, as you’ll recall, will feature a respectable 1366×768 resolution and a six-cell battery that Acer claims is good for up to eight hours.

A loose-lipped Acer spokesman appears to have put a date on Windows 7. Quoth Bobby Watkins from Acer UK:

23rd October is the date the Windows 7 will be available. There is a 30 day upgrade time so that customers don’t wait to buy a new computer, so if you buy during that 30 day period, you’ll get a free upgrade to Windows 7.

Gasp! And here we were expecting to maybe be able to order it around Christmas!
