We’ve been seeing lots of cool wireless power applications this year and Hanrim had a good demo of a prototype phone with a wirless charging pad that you can use for multiple devices. They expect “remote power” — meaning a box on your wall that charges everything in the house at once — by 2015. More interestingly, they foresee satellites sending energy to the earth in about a century. Let’s hope this is one of those silly things that we’ll be laughing about on the CrunchGear International News Network while waiting in line for our teleportation to the Slave Mines of Mars in 2059. How wrong we were, we’ll say. Now that our alien masters have given us snarklefurtz crystals, power is free and abundant. Biggs is working on a longer piece on what exactly these folks have to offer, but this happens to be one of the services. We’re not entirely sure how it works, but the short demo explains what’s possible. You’re basically selling minutes to people while you trigger the calls. Imagine being on a beach or in a developing country. To go to the “minutes broker” who charges you 50 whatevers for 5 minutes to the US. He triggers a call to your local phone and to the number in the US and both phones ring. It’s a great way to add long distance service to places where it is prohibitively expensive or inconvenient.

The video above demonstrates the DialogOS app being applied to a Lego Mindstorm kit. The demonstrator is asking how far objects are and the robot responds pretty quickly. Dr. Hajo Keffer gave us a quick rundown of what DialogOS does, what it’s capable of and how much it is in another video.

Peter and I are headed to Düsseldorf tomorrow afternoon in preparation for our flight out on Sunday. It’s a big freaking table.

We can expect the Jaybird to hit our shores this summer. I don’t really see a market for standalone stereo Bluetooth headsets because so few devices have stereo Bluetooth. Luckily, the Jaybird comes with a Bluetooth iPod adapter and mini-stereo adapter and offers the user some degree of wireless control, depending on the device, via the three buttons on the headset. It’s designed for sports and might make for a nice, tangle-free solution for running and biking.

So you have 50 chargers at your desk, one for each device. You have a Nintendo DS Lite, a Sidekick LX, and a USB-powered vibrator. Who wants all those cables? I sure don’t. Enter the iDapt. This is basically a little box with three chargers sticking out of it. It comes with standard adapters for the DSL, the iPod, USB, and most Nokia phones and other adapters can be purchased individually. The device should be shipping this year in the States and it comes in five bright and beautiful colors including Peter Ha’s favorite, bright pink.

This tiny headset charges via your USB port and can hold a MicroSD card for storage, just like a USB key. It includes a little USB cable and a car charger. Bluetrek sells quite a bit of product in the US now and this should be arriving on our shores shortly once they sew up a distribution deal.

Biggs and I both thought this was some magical display, but we soon realized it wasn’t Harry Potter whipping up magical spells from somewhere.

Here’s the Gigabyte M700 UMPC. It’s got a 7-inch, 1024×600 display and comes with 2GB, standard. It’s powered by a 1.2GHz C7-M CPU from VIA and uses Vista Home Premium as the operating system, so that 2GB of RAM will surely come in handy.

It’s pretty compact and weighs only 1.43 pounds and is said to have two webcams, GPS, and a WiMax-capable ExpressCard. There’s no keyboard but if that doesn’t deter you, then maybe you’d enjoy something like this. Unfortunately, pricing and a release date are unknown at this time. We’ll update you as we find out more.
