D700
by Matt Burns on February 6, 2009

The Internet tubes have been rumbling about a new, high megapixal Nikon dSLR coming sometime this year and that rumor just got a little more official with a list of specs. The detailed list certainly seems feasible with a 3.5-inch touchscreen and dual SD/CF storage slots, but the 24MP spec throws up some questions, expessially if this digicam is to be called the D400.

Rumors help drive down prices of Nikon DSLRs
by Nicholas Deleon on October 1, 2008

Endless and incessant rumors regarding Nikon’s next move make the world go ’round; they also help lower the price of the company’s existing line of cameras.

For example, you can now grab a D40X with an 18-135mm lens for around $819. Times being what they are and all, that’s still a fair amount of money, but it’s a lot cheaper than the $1,000 you once would have paid.

Newer cameras are also dropping in price. The D60, once around $700, can now be had for around $600. Even the D700 has dropped in price by around $200.

And for no reason at all, visca el Barça.

Nikon D700 gone wild! Pics, specs, and new lenses

Ah, how I wish I had one of these things. I’ll let the experts explain the gist:

Building on the immense success of the Nikon D3 professional D-SLR camera, the D700 offers pro-level performance and an extensive array of features and innovations in a comfortably nimble platform. In addition to the Nikon-original FX-format CMOS sensor, the D700 incorporates Nikon’s EXPEED Image Processing System, Nikon’s renowned 51-point auto focus system with 3D Focus Tracking and two Live View shooting modes that allow photographers to frame a shot using the camera’s three-inch high-resolution LCD monitor. The D700 also features Nikon’s sophisticated Scene Recognition System and a new active dust reduction system.

12.1 megapixels, 0.4ms shutter lag, ISO up to 25600 (jury’s out on that one), live view, 8fps up to 17 RAW shots (pretty decent) and probably the best autofocus in the business right now. I’d say they’ve got a nice camera on their hands. Being a Canon man myself, I wouldn’t know my way around this beast of a Nikon, but I have to say I’ve got a serious case of gear envy right now. Of course, the thing officially costs $2,999.95. High res pictures and new lens details if you click below.

Nikon D700 (supposedly) found in German magazine: 95% viewer, D3 sensor

We’re led to believe this scan of a German photography magazine article about the D700 is real. Having “been had” last week, I reserve the right to remain suspicious.

These are the specs that appear in the article. Maybe.

D700: D3-Sensor, AF-Module but no phone/speaker, only 95% viewer, 200-6400ISO, 5FPS (8 with MB-D10), pop-up-flash (power 11), dust-removal on sensor, EN-EL3e, 1076g, fsync 1/250, 1/8000-30s, one CF-Slot, grid in viewer optional, virtual horizon, little less fast to D3. Compatible to WT-4.

So, no 100 percent viewer? Did we lose a war?

Oh, and the all-important price: €2,599, or $4,094.

D700 photo is fake, Earth has actually stopped rotating

Oh, for the love of God. It looks like this alleged shot of the Nikon D700 is as fake as fake can be. It’s actually nothing more than a Photoshopped D300.

The original photo is on Flickr.

Now, that doesn’t mean the D700 itself is fake, but rather that particular photo is. A distinction without meaning? Maybe, who knows?

Nikon D700: Available Monday for 20,000 Danish kroner

I’ve highlighted the important parts because they’re very difficult to find
Yes, the date appears to have been put up by Digital Depot, and the price by Photografica. I believe both little tidbits have been taken down, but I think it’s safe to say that following this weekend you’ll be free to lay out as many kroner as you have to get that thing.

In case you’re wondering, 20,000 DKK = about $4300. It’s far more likely that it will be put at a $2999 price point, however; the $4347 would be if you bought it from Photografica in their currency. Oh, to have three grand to spend on a camera. Heaven is a warm roll of bills.

Nikon D700: Full body shot, new 24-120mm lens (maybe)

This photo purports to show the as-yet unannounced Nikon D700 with a 24-120mm lens.

The photo first appeared on a Chinese blog. Perhaps Nikon has already starting manufacturing it en masse in China?

As a pretend photography hobbyist, I’m actually interested in this in more than a professional capacity. Where in Nikon’s lineup will this be? Will it replace a camera, or be an entirely new entry?

Speculation!
