The industry is all a buzz with the latest entry in the “I’m the thinnest laptop” competition. The latest Dell Adamo is definitely a strong contender, at 9.99 mm at some points. Of course, that’s just the official figure. I would have tested it myself but I forgot my calipers.

Multitouch isn’t just for tech nerds anymore according to Dell. The firm’s latest convertible tablet PC is rocking a 12.1-inch multi-touch capable touchscreen in a chassis that’s designed for manly men tasks. The chassis was engineered and tested to meet MIL-810G standards, but yet the notebook is only 1.5-inches thick and weighs in at 5.4 pounds. Look out, Jack Bauer and Mike Rowe. This one is for you two.
More details today on the Dell Adamo XPS. Nothing official of course, but leaks happen and we’re finally getting to see exactly what’s hiding under that very flashy exterior.
Dell is finally letting some folks play with the previously super secret Adamo XPS. Hardware specifics are still a mystery although we now know it’s powered by an Atom CPU. Apparently everyone digs the previously-mentioned capacitive strip that opens the lid all sexy-like. Head over to LaptopMag to peek a few pics until we can post our hands-on.
It looks like Dell’s rumored slightly-larger-than-an-iPod-touch Android MID that we heard about back in late June has finally seen the light of day.
Apparently called the Dell Streak (I hope that’s not the final product name), it’s a 5-inch mobile internet device similar to the recently-released Archos 5 Internet Tablet with the added functionality of 3G wireless data connectivity.
With the Adamo XPS getting all the play recently, Dell quietly updated the Desire model with a slight performance boost. The original model, apparently named Desire, now rocks a 2.1GHz Core 2 Duo SL9600 CPU, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, 256GB SSD, and of course, Windows 7 Home Premium. Chances are Dell was sitting on this update until it could ship Windows 7 with it.
Dell has been playing the media with the Adamo XPS with tid-bits of info here and there. First there was a teaser site, followed by a lackluster press conference, and then two more product shots. At least the price has been finally released by a Business Week article, which states the halo computer will carry a $2,000 price tag. But other than that expect price tag and a little gimmick heat-sensing strip on the lid that, when swiped with a finger, glows white and opens the lid, the Adamo XPS is still a mystery.
With word that MySpace has swapped traditional hard drives for solid state drives, this “prototype” portable data center from a pioneering Dell employee may be a sign of things to come. This is a pretty marked departure from the shipping container data centers being constructed by Google, Sun, and seemingly everyone else. This datacenter-in-a-briefcase is not an actual product (yet!), but just something this guy threw together in his garage.
Rumors have been swirling about a Dell smartphone for what feels like an eternity. Sure, the Round Rock crew managed to launch a smartie over in China at the end of the summer, but until last week, a US-bound device was still more vaporware than fact…until now.
Dell has just teamed up with Vice Magazine, they of the Do’s & Don’ts, to create a new news site/blog/coolness injector called Motherboard.tv.
After those strange, heady days of the Dell Dude, the company has fallen off the coolness radar. In an effort to right this wrong, Dell hired Vice to create a website and news source – sort of a pop-up web presence – to talk about tech to a more plugged-in audience.

First, a rant: Dell is really taking advantage of the media with the new Adamo XPS notebook. It’s classic. First they put up a teaser website a month ago that shows nothing but the incredibly thin dimensions and a side picture. Then they call a press conference where all they do is wave around the notebook for 3.5 seconds and then put it away. Now, there is a press release that contains nothing but two new pictures. This practice is tiresome and I hate that we must play the game, Dell. Anyway… on to the press release.
Breaking: Dell is finally showing off the Adamo XPS in person. There has been a teaser page up for about a month now, but John is live at a NYC press event to spend some quality time with the 9.99 mm thin notebook. That’s thinner than the iPhone, kiddies. Stay put, more’s coming soon.
Remember the Dell Mini 3i, Dell’s China-only Android phone? Well it’s not China-only anymore.
Rumor has it that Dell will bring the Mini 3i to the U.S. in the next few months to compete with other Android phones coming down the pike from HTC, Samsung, and Motorola.
The phone, presumably still in its Chinese trade dress, felt “cheap and plasticky, like the Pre,” according our tipster. He believes it will be upgraded for the American market.

Dell just added a new model to their rather stodgy looking Vostro line, the excitingly named “Vostro 430″. This isn’t particularly newsworthy, however what IS newsworthy is that their new computers will protect you. From the future!!!11!
Dell’s got something for the business set today in the 16-inch Latitude Z, a $2000 notebook that measures just over half an inch thick, weighs 4.5 pounds, and charges wirelessly.
Right now it’s somewhat of a chore getting a Blu-ray-equipped notebook. That might change in 2010 though according to a report at Digitime. The report suggests something most of us already know that once the price drops on the slim Blu-ray drive – which will happen in the second half of 2010 – we will start seeing the option become standard.
