Video was one of the big features that numerous iPhone users wanted, and now that we have the iPhone 3GS, iPhone developers are taking the video API to new heights. Today, Tweet Reel is launching an iPhone application that is taking video on the iPhone to the next level. Tweet Reel is the first application on the iPhone 3GS that allows video to uploaded at 640×480, from a 3rd party developer. Apple built out the APIs more for developers, and 640×480 video was added in OS 3.1. Tweet Reel lets you shoot pictures and video on your iPhone, upload them to TweetReel.com, and share them on Twitter.

To upload video from your iPhone, it’s quite simple. Download Tweet Reel from the App Store [iTunes link], take a picture with your iPhone or shoot a video with your new iPhone 3GS, and tweet it. It’s that simple. Once you’ve shot your video on the 3GS, you can trim it down to whatever time you want, and then send it to Twitter. Tweet Reel supports multiple Twitter accounts, and geo-tagging, with the iPhone’s core location features.

Tweet Reel is $2.99 from the App Store today.

He has it set up to trigger when you hold down a button on the case but you can obviously use your own little head to come up with better solutions. Thankfully he walks through the entire process, ensuring even fools like me could replicate his solution.

But for all its merits, the iPhone 3GS suffers from being, well, a phone. No matter how good the phone's video quality is, it's still prone to shakiness as its director moves around. And while the microphone may be high quality, its position at the bottom of the phone definitely isn't ideal recording whatever you're pointing the camera lens at.

Fortunately, an answer is on the way for all you mobile videographers. A new startup called OWLE (Optical Widgets For Life Enhancement), is currently working on a mount that should resolve most of these issues. The mount, which you can see in the images and videos below, gives you a much more stable way to hold the phone, making it much less prone to bumps and shakes. The mount also improves your recording quality by including a 37mm camcorder lense and a front facing microphone, which plugs into the phone's headphone/mic jack. There's also planned support for external lighting and power. All in a package that could slip easily into a backpack or laptop case. There’s also planned support for external lighting and power. All in a package that could slip easily into a backpack or laptop case. In short, this is exactly what you need if you frequently use the iPhone for video.

Unfortunately, it will still be a while before you can get your hands on one. OWLE plans to have a limited production run completed by late August, which it will distribute to bloggers and other press to help get the word out. A full production run is currently slated to be completed by Christmas, at a retail pricepoint in the $30-50 range, including the accessories. There are also a few shortcomings from the hardware side: because the included microphone plugs into the phone’s mic jack, it only supports mono. The company is planning another version that will plug into the phone’s 30-pin adapter (which would enable stereo recording) but that won’t make this model.

In the demo video below, OWLE also pleads with Apple to begin fully supporting Qik on the iPhone 3GS — something that we’ve also been hoping for, and would make the device even more appealing. You can sign their petition here.
I find your ideas fascinating and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.

It’s certainly not outside the realm of possibility, but there are steps to be taken to prove it. The FrenchiPhone post suggests that a quick wipe with some alcohol takes the color right off. Is this the solution? A cheaply dyed leather case might transfer its color to the iPhone and account for wipe-able stains, but we’ll wait for the other users with toasty iPhones to give it a shot.

Freeze then installed Cydia and all was right with the world.

Here’s how to do it.

1. Find a Windows PC.
2. Install iTunes.
3. Download purplera1n.
4. Run purplera1n.
5. Wait.
6. Run Freeze.
7. Reboot.

“At some point, I became aware the handset had become very hot,” wrote Melissa Perinson, senior editor of PC World, who felt high temperatures while gaming and browsing the web on her iPhone 3GS. “Very, very hot — not just on the back, but the entire length of the front face, too…. Toasty doesn’t even describe how surprisingly hot it got. It was too hot to even put the phone against my face.”

Wired actually ran a poll and found that few felt it was really overheating. However, there have been reports of problems with these batteries and Apple is remaining mum.

Why would they do this? Well, if they release now, Apple can close the hole with the new release, something they'd be loathe to do if the unlock happened closer to launch. While this isn't very nice, it's amazingly practical and forward thinking.

Write the commentors:

How long will the line be at Apple to return the 3gs today?????

_

DEV TEAM;

I respect the reasons you are doing this, but why not keep both sides reasonably happy. Announce a date that the new jailbreak will be released (presumably sometime in the next two months) and say that if you wish to have a jailbreakable 3GS, then it would be advised they buy before this date.

Therefore, even those who still have the 1st iphone have a chance to update (even if they have to pay for two phones for one or two months). Anyone past the date will simply have to assume that their device will not be able to be jail broken.

As a 3GS owner, i do not mind waiting, as long as i know how long i am waiting for and i would think that other early upgrades would appreciate a date to look forward to.

BY ANNOUNCING A DATE, BOTH SIDES CAN BE HAPPY.

_

WE SHOULD HAVE A POLL ON WHEN IT SHOULD BE RELEASED. THE MAJORITY SHOULD WIN RIGHT?
“The needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few…”
people who have 3gs and want to jb now vs. people who have 3gs and want to wait vs. people who dont have the 3gs and who want to wait.
</blockquote

That's right: they're calling for free elections. Sadly, this isn't Iran but a bunch of weenies who want to unlock their iPhones 3GS. As Rob at BBG notes:

Would you like some whine with that sense of entitlement, sir?

Yesterday, Hottest Girls, the first app with nudity was accepted into the App Store. The guy team behind the app, Allen the Geek, writes on its site:

For a single phone model to have such a major impact on the site is simply phenomenal.

Even without the iPhone, YouTube is seeing major growth across the entire mobile space — the site has seen uploads go up 1700% over the last six months. It's not hard to guess why. Video-enabled smartphones are becoming increasingly popular, as are high speed data connections. YouTube also attributes part of the growth to a streamlined upload flow (note how easy it is to upload a video from your iPhone to the site), as well as its improved sharing capabilities (you can now syndicate your videos to services like Facebook and Twitter).
