Logitech

Logitech went official with the Harmony 1100 just a few weeks ago and already it’s available for purchase. Newegg has the touchscreen universal remote for the low, low price of $499 with free shipping. In order to take advantage of the killer RF capabilities, you’ll have to spend an extra $99 on the RF Extender though. But that money is well spent as with the RF mode and a few extra long cables, all the AV equipment can be hidden away and controlled with this macro-powered universal remote.

This may be the the plain jane Logitech Harmony, but it’s still a killer remote solution for those plagued with multiple remotes. Everything is consolidated into one unit that’s easy to program thanks to the online setup. It’s a basic model but totally worth $50.

Logitech is the latest company to bow under the global economic strain. The PC accessory maker had a rough last quarter and now has a tough road ahead. But who is to blame? Anyone? Everyone? There doesn’t seem to be a major CE company that has posted positive third quarter results and layoffs seem to be a common trend; Logitech is going to layoff 550-600 salaried positions.

We saw the leak, we got the release, and we got the hands-on; Logitech’s new G-series is sexy as hell. Of course, the G15 may be hard to sell and the G9 is pretty much unchanged since I reviewed it, but the G19 is gorgeous and functional. I’m reserving judgment on the headphones, given how many surround sound headsets are coming out soon. I may just have to do a round-up!

If you like Logitech’s style, you’ll love this series of Flickr sets by Design Partners, who put the things together. The molds, prototypes and all that are there for your consumption.

The first post from CES 2009 is about Logitech, since they were the first booth on my right as soon as I walked in the door of CES unveiled, the cocktail hour/preview event that’s going on upstairs right now in the Venetian. I’m here in the Blounge reporting to you because I don’t like to have fun and mingle. I like to type things and edit video. Lucky you!

Yes, they already “announced” these things a little while ago, but I’ve got shady video and better pictures. Isn’t that what you like?

Next-gen Logitech gaming keyboard spied, looks hot

Engadget China has discovered a picture of a new Logitech device called the G18 (?), apparently in the print publication Hello!. If I’m not mistaken, that’s a full-color LCD in the middle there, along with function keys on the left, a d-pad above the F4 key, and media keys along the top as well. Good lord, I can’t wait to get my hands on one of these things! That’s a G13 on the left, if you were wondering — they were revealed early this morning. I’d heard rumors of a G19… I wonder if maybe En China read the label wrong…

Look quick! Before we get a takedown notice.

Quick Version: The QuickCam Vision Pro from Logitech is perhaps the easiest-to-use webcam I have seen in a while. There is no software required to run it, so you simply plug it in via the 6-ft USB cable, and you’re good to go. It works automatically with MSN Messenger, Yahoo, Skype, and other applications.

Review: Logitech Squeezebox Boom

Quick Version: The Logitech Squeezebox Boom is a free-standing network device that can be used to play your complete music library. The setup is surprisingly easy, even if you are connecting it to a wireless network that uses 128-bit encryption. When it comes time to enter your key, simply turn the wheel and click it to enter the digit. My network was found immediately, and Squeezebox obtained an IP address within seconds of me entering the key.

Review: Logitech Illuminated Keyboard

Quick Version: The Logitech Illuminated Keyboard sports a sleek design combined with a number of functional enhancements that make it a cut above most others. While the illuminated keys are the main feature, the first thing you’ll notice upon removing it from the box is how extremely slim the keyboard is. It’s a good 75% slimmer than your traditional keyboard, and has a modern shape and style to it that will make it nice to look at and to use.

New gaming keyboard from Logitech: the G13
10 Comments
by Devin Coldewey on December 10, 2008

I was just thinking it was about time for Logitech to drop some new gaming gear on us. Maybe they were just waiting for the billionth mouse fanfare to die down. Now, I hope you weren’t expecting a regular-style keyboard, because I kind of was, and now I’m a little… not disappointed, but weirded out. It’s a freaky, cool-looking device, and Logitech’s standards for build quality and driver support have always seemed great to me. I have a friend who swears by one of these little weirdo keyboards, and he’s old school so I trust him on it.

The G13 features custom-color backlighting for its 25 programmable keys, an analog stick (!), and a 160×43px LCD display that can be programmed to show everything from ammo to in-game messages. I’d be lying if I said this thing was for everybody (especially at $80), but I’d also be lying if I said it wouldn’t improve my game.

Logitech outs the Comfort Lapdesk – looks comfy

Who hasn’t burned their legs while enjoying the ‘portability’ of a notebook? Or done the notebook squeezed between the legs balancing act. Yeah, not fun but the new Logitech Comfort Lapdesk should keep the burning notebook off your legs. Logitech combined multiple heat dispersing tactics to make ensure the repose of the Comfort Lapdesk user: multiple heat shields, airflow chambers and yada, yada, yada, legs are kept cool. It should drop in February at a price of $39.99. Is cool legs worth 40 bones? Hell ya.

Custom grips for the Logitech G9

I noted in my review of this excellent mouse that it has removable grips in case you prefer one material over the other. I’m surprised Logitech hadn’t capitalized on this fact at the time and launched this mouse with decorative custom shells. You can, of course, get it with some art from your favorite game, but it could also be a touching reminder to your gaming spouse that yes, they have a family.

$20 seems a little much for a little piece of plastic with your face (or…) on it, but it would make a pretty nice stocking stuffer for the Logitech fan in your home.

Quick Version: The V550 Nano from Logitech is by no means the first cordless mouse to be produced, nor will it be the last. But it is one of the better ones that have come out in recent years.

Logitech has shipped its billionth mouse
2 Comments
by Devin Coldewey on December 3, 2008

That’s a hell of a lot of mice to be shipping, guys. Well, I guess Logitech has worked for it; they consistently make some of the best mice in the world, and certainly the best scroll wheel. Congrats, and here’s to another billion, guys.

But with the likes of Razer and SteelSeries nipping at your heels, and new guys like NZXT and Silverstone getting into the game as well, the first billion may be the easiest.

Logitech shines where Monster Cable failed

Remember a few weeks back when my Monster Central remote suddenly stopped working? If you didn’t, its no biggie, I still love ya. Anyway, here is a nice story about how Logitech handled a similar out of warranty issue with a Harmony remote. Instead of sending the guy packing and with the advice to buy a new remote – like Monster Cable did with me – they shipped him a brand spanking new remote. Yeah, I’m still a little burned that Monster didn’t do anything for me so it’s nice to see a company actually care about their customers. Oh, and by the way, the Monster Remote is made by Logitech just supported by a Monster Cable. Food for thought.

Logitech brings sexy back with wireless DiNovo Keyboard for Macs
by Matt Burns on November 11, 2008

Logitech might <3 Windows users more than Apple peeps, but the peripheral company eventually releases Mac friendly products like the wireless DiNovo Keyboard. Yup, Mac users get their very own Logitech keyboard complete with a command and Apple key. Other than those little changes, this $99 keyboard is the same as its PC counterpart and similar to the more expensive Edge version sans the trackpad and fancy charger.

Quick Version: The $99.99 Pure-Fi Anytime is a good choice as an alarm clock and single-room speaker system. If you’ve got your life on your iPhone, you’ll appreciate this gadget as it pulls double duty as a bedside phone charger and music player.
