The Nikon D3s is finally official. Nikon updated a few items in its flagship DSLR including the addition of a 720p video mode. Camera nerds are still curious where their 1080p mode is, but these demo videos show that the 720p video is at least YouTube quality. One more after the jump. Read More
It seems like it was just a few minutes ago that I was posting the leaked specs almost in their entirety. Oh, it was. Well, we’ve got more pictures!
Uh oh! Looks like the British Journal of Photography isn’t going to be invited to next year’s big Nikon event. Well, their loss is our gain as they confirm the details we suspected for the D3s. The actual announcement is supposed to go up in about six hours, but hey, it’s out there in the open. What’s new? Well, before you read any further, consider that this camera has been priced at £4200, or around $6700, for the body only. This is a professional camera. But that said, features that start pro-only tend to trickle down in the next generation of prosumer and consumer cameras, so let’s take a look.

Short version: If you are familiar with the Nikon D300, then you can just expect more of the same. The D300s doesn’t do anything ground breaking, but what it does is add some nice features to an already excellent DSLR — most importantly, HD video and SD card support.
The D300s is the latest version of Nikon’s award-winning D300, which was released in August of 2007. The D300s features a 12.3 megapixel, DX-format sensor, and supports an ISO range of 200 to 3200. Nikon also gave the D300s their 51 point auto-focus system, which makes it exceptionally easy to get a crisp image while shooting. The D300s also has the same 3 inch LCD display as the D300 on the back of the body, which is great for reviewing your shots or when you are using the “Live View” mode. At $1800, it’s firmly in the “prosumer” price range.

Another bit of Nikon news today, the Nikon D3 has been unofficially discontinued. You might be able to find them used, or in old stock, but for the most part they are gone, making more room for the D3x.
So we’ve known that something was coming, but we weren’t sure exactly what. We still don’t know for certain what Nikon is up to on the 15th, but that whole is looking better and better. It’s not a huge surprise really, since the new Leica’s have really been in the news lately.
I could care less about iPod teardowns. I mean, who the hell cares anymore. It’s an iPod. But I looked at nearly every picture of iFixit’s teardown of the Nikon Coolpix S1000pj. After all, this little pocket camera sports a front-facing projector. Of course I wanna see the little gnomes that make the magic happen. Video teardown after the jump.
This Nikon rumor is about as vague as it gets. All it states is that within the next weeks, there will be a new Nikon camera announced and it’s not the D700x/D700s. It also states that the model will be something entirely new for Nikon and not a replacement. Nikon Rumors is thinking that this camera *might* be something like the new Leica X1, which seems plausible.
We just got our Nikon D300s, and it’s looking good. I’ve taken a few beauty shots for you, and shot some video with the camera as well. First impressions are good, but that’s to be expected as it’s based on the the excellent D300 body. We’ll be comparing the D300s to a D300 in our full review to help you decide if you want to upgrade or not.

Nice. The Nikon S1000pj pocket projector camera was originally slated for September 17th release, but then a nasty Internet rumor circulated stating that it was pushed back to October 23 due to supply levels. But a Nikon PR dude sent us a little note, calming stating that it was still on track. We have no idea if any actually got their hands on the camera on the 17th, but it’s now available from major Internet retailers for $429 and that’s all that matters.
Nikon rumors are always so fun. Idle speculation always runs wild, while sometimes they get it, most the time they don’t. This rumor keeps feeding on itself however, and we’re seeing more and more sites talking about this.
Nikon announced today that they are officially discontinuing the D300 DSLR. That should really not be a surprise as the D300s has been announced, effectively replacing a camera that came out in August of 2007 (that’s the equivalent of 25 years in digital photography time).
News broke yesterday from a usually very reliable Japanese trade publication that Nikon had pushed back the launch date for the S1000pj projector camera to October 23 due to the expected high demand. That might not be true. A Nikon PR flack just dropped us a note stating that the S1000pj is, in fact, going to be released on September 17, 2009 as orginally planned.
Just a heads up – The Nikon S1000pj camera actually is not delayed, and it’s on target for Sept 17th for a sales start date. Let me know if you have any questions!
So either the PR guy is simply trying to save face for the company he represents or the camera is in fact going to be available in this month. We’ll find out on September 17.
Sorry, folks. If you’ve been anxiously awaiting the launch of the Nikon Coolpix S100pj projector camera, you’re going to have to wait a little longer. The original plan according to the press release was to bring the camera to the market in September, but that doesn’t seem to be the case any longer. Now the camera is going to launch on October 23rd.
I’ve got good news and bad news, Nikon-lovers.
The good news is that the D300s is available now and looks great.
The bad news is the movie mode still features major jelly-motion, and the autofocus is comically slow. We already got a taste of the HD movies with these official productions, but as we noted then, they avoided certain camera movements which embarrass the camera somewhat. Not now!
Get this! The iPhone is the most popular camera on Flickr! And it isn’t even a camera! LOL! According to Flickr’s camera finder the iPhone beat out the Canon Rebel XTi and other big players in the DSLR game.
Okay, so Nikon’s S1000pj just launched a few hours ago and I think we all want to see how it’s going to work. We’ll have a hands-on shortly, but here is the official Nikon video that demonstrates the camera clearly. We just hope that the room doesn’t have to be pitch black inorder for it to work. Interstingly enough, the French version of the video shows a cream colored S1000pj along with the matte black model we’re getting here in the States. It makes you wonder why we don’t have the color option here.
