Everyone probably agrees that the Wii is past its prime technology-wise. Hell, it was sort out of date when it was released, but that hasn’t stopped it from winning the console war. Maybe the recent Wii price drop shows that an update isn’t that far off.

This rumor comes hot on the heels of another rumor, though they seem to be unrelated. The rumored DS Speak Channel would probably be on the new version as well. And hey, it’s almost holiday shopping time — a nice big-screen DS would make a lot of kids happy.

Honestly, it makes sense. Why buy a D3 when you can buy a D3x? The updated electronics make it a far better camera, if you can get past the crazy high price. Nikon might have made a little misstep there, charging $8000 for a camera that should have been priced at $5,500.

So farewell Nikon D3. So far this is only a rumor, but the majority of the retailers out there are out of stock, and have been for quite some time.

Nikon Rumors has heard that the new Leica X1 is actually made by Nikon, so it make sense that the manufacturing and technology is already in place for building a clone – particularly when you see how popular the new Leicas have been. The new camera will reportedly use the same sensor as the D300, which would be a very good thing.

The source also told the NR folks that the new camera may end up modeled after the old Coolpix, with the swivel display. I certainly hope not.

It’ll be using the Rebel XSi’s sensor and a DIGIC IV image processor, and should take shots at about 3.5FPS. 1080p movie mode is restricted to 30FPS, but I’m not sure about 720p. The rumor states there may be sensor-shift stabilization, which seems unlike Canon. They’ve always been lens-based stabilizers, but hey, maybe they saw the light. (Doubt it)

It makes sense in a way, the full frame sensor probably can do higher quality video and better FPS. This information comes from a site in Australia, that said they got insider information that the new D3s will feature the full on 14fps and 1080p video. I guess we’ll have to wait until November 3rd to find out.

Here’s a nice, juicy rumor to start the day off on the right (or wrong) foot. After those recent supposed screenshots of Google’s upcoming Chrome OS, Taiwan’s Shanzai.com is now reporting the following:

“According to our reliable sources on the Mainland, both Lenovo and Acer are planing to launch Tegra-based devices running Google’s Chrome OS, and the word on the streets is that it could even happen sometime later this month.”

If true, that would be pretty wild. It’d also serve to steal a bit of thunder from a certain company based in Cupertino, California that’ll be announcing new products on September 9th. I’ve no doubt that Tegra+Chrome OS smartbooks (or MIDs or netbooks or whatever) will eventually make it to market, but to see one or more of them this month would be a bit surprising considering we’ve been hearing mid-2010 for just about everything else.

As always, take this news with a grain of salt until it can be officially substantiated.

The specs on the box are in Chinese, but helpful commenter maxxevv gives a translation:

Sounds like dynamite, assuming the movie mode isn’t the same shabby one that’s on the T1i.

In addition to the poster, there were leaked the following two lenses:

Are you kidding me? Those look fantastic. 15-85 and 18-135, f/3.5-5.6 IS? Damn, son, sign me up! That puts Canon in a much better position when comparing against Nikon’s excellent kit lenses, which have always been a selling point for their cheaper DSLRs. We’ll see what the pricing and performance are, but the numbers are looking hot like magma.

And here we have yet another Apple tablet rumor to be bandied about all the livelong day. According to Gizmodo, “a source that has always been 100% reliable” says that Apple may be working on 13- and 15-inch tablets (aside from just the rumored 10-inch one) and that one of those tablets was seen running a full-fledged version of OS X 10.5.

This source claims that the two touchscreen prototypes—made of aluminum, but on the shape of big iPhones—were in a factory in Shenzuen, China. One of them “was running Mac OS X 10.5.” When I asked, the source didn’t know if these were built for demonstration purposes, or if they were preproduction units. The company has a tight relation with Apple but “it’s not FoxConn.”

That’s about it for now. I’d personally think that if one tablet’s going to run the full operating system — say, the 15-inch one, for instance — then the 10- and 13-inch ones would run OS X as well. It’d be surprising for Apple to potentially confuse consumers by putting out a touchscreen tablet that ran different software depending solely on the screen size.

As always, take this stuff with a grain of salt until the very moment Steve Jobs actually announces the thing himself.

Because this is a rumor, we don’t know much right now. Will it be a stand alone unit? Will it be an add-on to standard phones? Will the iPhone get a tuner? No idea. What we do know is that it’s been incredibly successful in South Korea and Japan, so Qualcomm is looking at releasing it here.

The authenticity of these screenshots is questionable, but we wouldn’t really be doing our jobs if we didn’t share them with you. So, what does iTunes 9 have to do with Facebook? According to the screenshots shared by BGR, the next iteration of iTunes will allow users to share playlists via Facebook. And then there’s something about third-party hardware support. It’s hard to see, but the second screenshot shows a Samsung YH-J70 popping up in iTunes. What’s strange about this is that iTunes says it has 27.86GB of memory, but the J70 MP3 player ships as a 20GB device. We’ll find out next month for sure.

Nikon Rumors is doing a little speculating, and I like the idea of a camera with a built-in projector. The first one would probably be awful, but I kind of like the idea. With that and a remote, you might actually want to do a little editing of photos on the device. In any case, next week isn’t very far away, so we’ll find out soon.

Anyway, the rumored NX-series digital SLR-like camera, the NX-10, from Samsung will supposedly be coming in November, but I’m more interested in the Sci-Fi camera that this guy in Korea is talking about. Sounds bonkers.

I went to the exhibition today (July 14).

I heard from Samsung Imaging representative today that NX-10 will be available to customers on November. NX-10 displayed on July 7 is pre-production model and is not completed one.

It has VGA level EVF. The rear display quality is really good and it seems to have more than 920K pixels (should be AMOLED?).
There was a 24x zoom high-end camera (Model : WB5000) in the exhibition.

Also, he mentioned new compact camera, and it will be a camera could only exist in your imagination. He said it is a camera might be seen in SF movies. It is totally different from existing compact digital cameras. He said it has 2 parts while normal compact cameras usually have only 1, but he didn’t say no more what it is. (Obviously, it is classified.)

NX and new digital camera will be announced around August.

Also, Samsung is working on successor of GX-20.

Ahead of the June NPD numbers that will be released on Thursday, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter stated today that US sales of the Wii, Xbox 360 and PS3 have declined 43 percent from June of last year to June 2009. He predicts that Nintendo moved 350,000 Wiis while Sony sold 165,000 PS3s and Microsoft came up shy of a quarter million with 225,000.

Pachter declared that both Sony and Nintendo would discount their respective consoles by $50 if hardware sales continue to decline.

“We think that the console manufacturers will therefore be forced to consider a price cut before year-end, with Sony cutting the PS3’s price by October 1,” he said.

“Further, we do not think that Nintendo’s hardware forecast figures are achievable without a price cut, and we expect one around the same time as the PS3 price cut.

“It is likely both manufacturers will cut by $50, with Sony making up any lack of increased demand with a software bundle.

“We expect Microsoft to follow suit, giving us confidence that US software sales will grow later in the year, notwithstanding negative sales in the early part of the year.”

There’s no way of knowing whether this shady video taken in the Philippines is of the real PS3 Slim, but GameTrailers is claiming it to be legit. The PS3 logo looks pretty bad, too. I call BS. Anyone know enough Tagalog and currently in the Philippines?

Grab the saltshaker because Gamememo is claiming that Nintendo will release two more MotionPlus-compatible titles by the end of the year. Other than Wii Sports Resort, Nintendo hasn’t really said too much about first party MotionPlus titles coming out this year. Gamememo hints that Cosmic Walker and Spam Smasher could be the two rumored titles, but who really knows?!
