What did I say when the Blockbuster OnDemand service launched last year? I said something about not discounting the service because the company has a lot riding on it, that’s what. This partnership between Blockbuster and Samsung which will place the service on the majority of Samsung’s new video gear implies that the service broke through to the mainstream and is here to stay.

Don’t call it a Comeback!
Wait, no. That other one. Do call it a Comeback – because that’s what its called.

We saw this thing in all of its QWERTY-sliding meatiness way back in May, though we didn’t have a name for it then. With the purported July 15th launch date just days away and Samsung’s terrible leak track record, we’re surprised its taken this long for the product shots to get out.

This is something special. Someone has allegedly seen a mock-up of the Samsung NX10, a digital camera of some sort, at a Korean trade show. There’s not photos to speak of, and no real specs. Just a forum post saying, essentially: Hey, I saw it. Believe me.

Today in Korea, Samsung announced an eco-friendly full HD LED monitor, the XL2370. It’s said to have a “finger-slim” design, but the press release makes no mention of how thick it actually is. But we do know that the XL2370 has a “mega dynamic” contrast ratio of 5M:1, 2ms response time and 1920×1080 resolution. Oh, and it has “Starlight Touch Controls.”

Samsung is about to break the mold with its latest netbook: It’s going to have an 11.6-inch screen! On noes. Intel isn’t going to like that as it breaks the company’s so-called restrictions on netbooks. Anyway, according to DigiTimes, this netbook should come equipped with an Nvidia Ion platform paired with an Intel Atom N-Series CPU.

Now, I can’t attest to the legitimacy of this spec list leaked by PhotoRumors, but let’s take a gander at what the GX-30 is purportedly equipped with. Assuming you understand the relationship that Samsung has with Pentax then one would assume that the GX-30 is simply a clone of the recently announced K-7. But is the GX-30 just that? A clone?

by Doug Aamoth on June 29, 2009

samsungLooks like Samsung’s getting into the 11.6-inch netbook game with the upcoming N510. An 11.6-inch screen means a 1366×768 resolution, which in turn means that the machine ought to be able to play HD content, which in turn (in turn) means it’s going to need some extra oomph. And it’ll get just that by using the NVIDIA Ion platform.

Samsung just outed the first 32GB DDR3 memory module. This sucker is fast too with 20% better throughput at 1.35 volts than the current 1.5 volt generation, thanks to 72 4Gb memory chips. It’s just too bad that you will not be popping this into your gaming rig anytime soon.

Poor Samsung. They can never keep any of their secrets. This time, images of the “Highlight” have been leaked to TmoNews. The 3G touch-screen devices looks similar to the Instinct s30 and features a 3.1-megapixel camera and GPS. Look for it to drop on July 15th.

Announced on Monday, the Samsung Omnia 2 is making its way onto Verizon very soon and we sat down with it for a little groping session.

Eagle-eyed citizens have spotted a new revision of the Xbox 360, one with 512MB of built-in storage. Pictures of the 360, a Japanese Arcade model, were posted to the Xbox Hacker forums.

Short Version: Samsung has put out another well-priced, nicely-featured camcorder in the SMX-F34. If you’re looking for a little more than a simple handheld flash memory camcorder but don’t want to pay top dollar for a high-definition video camera, this model deserves a closer look thanks to marathon battery life, good image quality, 16GB of built-in storage, and a 34x optical zoom all at under $300. Stop what you’re doing! It’s a Samsung press day and they’re blowing the doors off the hinges with these completely bonkers announcements. Well, not really, but there are some nice little upgrades (and a grip of phones) trickling out, so if you were in the market for a little external drive, better read this before you shell out.

Have you been holding off on getting a new drive because the ones you wanted weren’t available in blue and pink? You’re in luck, my friend. Salvation lies within.

A rumor coming out of the Pentax Forums indicates that Samsung could be ready to launch the successor to the GX-20 DSLR, the GX-30. Last month similar rumors emerged with a June launch for the GX-30, but we have yet to hear anything official from Samsung. Others are speculating that it could be the vaunted NX series camera that Samsung announced at PMA. One commenter on the forum, Xian, states that Samsung will announce the GX-30, NX3 and two compact cameras.

Okay, seriously. We love us some Android, but we have to wonder: Do these manufacturers have some secret pact that requires them to make every Android phone ugly as hell?

Announced at CES, the H106 from Samsung is the world’s first 64GB SSD HD camcorder. It’s shipping now for $900 from Amazon. I’m not sure what it is about Samsung’s viral videos, but they sure get the job done.

Megapixels don’t “mean” anything until you’re the first company to reach a milestone. That’s why so much attention is being paid to Samsung today, on a day when plenty of “real” news—GM declaring bankruptcy, an Air France jet going down, Carlo Ancelloti joining Chelsea, etc.—will overshadow anything coming out of the tech world. Anyhow, the South Korea company will release a cellphone with a built-in 12-megapixel camera this month. Europe gets it first when it comes out later this month. “Other regions” will have it beginning in August.

Some flexible AMOLED news for you. (I know, right?) Samsung just showed off a prototype 6.5-inch display that’s less of a hassle to produce in large quantities. (Temperature doesn’t need to be as closely monitored, manufacturing costs have dropped, etc.) Samsung envisages something like this being used in electronic book readers, electronic passports, etc. Paper be damned, I guess.

Where’s my saltshaker?

Photo Rumors has been tipped off by a reliable source that Samsung plans to announce a new DSLR next month, the GX-30. Keeping in mind the relationship that Samsung has with Pentax, I’d assume it’s just a clone of the newly announced K-7 since the GX-20 was clone of the K20D with a few cosmetic differences.
