The famous hair buns are actually two mini pumpkins that can be held in place with toothpicks or, if you’re feeling ambitious, two 3-inch pieces of quarter-inch doweling and some pretty straightforward cranial drilling. Slap on some acrylic paint, use a dishtowel to simulate the Princess’ gown, and, boom, intergalactic pumpkin.
The long-awaited announcement for the joint venture between LucasArts and BioWare has taken place, and it’s pretty much what everyone expected: an MMO set in the world of Knights of the Old Republic. Players will choose between the Galactic Republic and Sith Empire, and will be able to use lightsabers early in the game — which presents kind of a problem (aren’t they like the most powerful weapons in the universe? PVE will be a snap). You’ll also be light or dark side, naturally, and they say that there’s also a compelling story you’ll be participating in.
I tend to take story promises of MMOs with a boulder of salt, as there’s simply no way, fundamentally, that a hundred thousand people can all play a decisive part in any kind of virtual galactic struggle. Still, it’ll be fun to visit the dozens of planets and take down some goody-two-shoes in-character Jedi. Lots of information here (probably a little too much), and the full press release is after the briz-eak. Read More
The UK Sun, famous for its Page 3 smut, has named the $35 Star Wars Clone Trooper Voice Changer Helmet as this year’s top tech toy. (Parents: Get one now before the holiday shopping season kicks in.) By toy, we really do mean toy, as in a child’s plaything, and not toy in the 60-inch plasma sense.
The helmet changes the wearer’s voice to that of a Storm Trooper, as you might imagine. As you also might imagine, it’s a real hit with a certain segment of the population. Embedded here is just one video showing off the helmet.
My only complaint: would it have killed reedpower, the guy in the video, to make his bed? It comes across as totally unprofessional.
Ah, nothing like unwinding at the end of the day by watching some TV in your home theater while looking out your windows at the sun setting over the beautiful Coruscant skyline. That’s what Steve Simon gets to do in part of his garage, which has been remodeled into a home theater resembling Chancellor Palpatine’s office from Star Wars III: Revenge of the Sith.
I’ve had a good two weeks or so with the iPhone version of the next chapter in the Star Wars saga and not much has changed from the demo version we saw at E3. You remember that don’t you? What we didn’t know about back then was the number of levels and the amount of skills that can be acquired throughout the game. You may want to stop reading in case you don’t want any spoilers. After being pulled from the app store a month ago, TheMacBox announced this morning that a new version dubbed Lightsaber Unleashed will be available soon. Working in conjunction with THQ and Lucas to streamline the new version with the multi-platform title SW:TFU the LU will feature characters, “vastly improved graphics, sound effects and optional dueling music (which was a popular request).” The best part of this announcement is that the app will be free.
That’s right, fanbois. Lucas Arts long awaited new title is getting ready for deployment next week on the PlayStation platform. Check out the video with Haden Blackman Executive Producer for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. It’s a pretty cool video interview with lots of insight into the development of the game.
Here’s a landspeeder built by a guy who really doesn’t want to be mistaken for Joey Fatone. The guy in the photo (which we used without permission) is actually Joey Fatone. The guy who built the landspeeder, Daniel Deutsch, sent us numerous e-mails demanding that we either correct the post (which originally alluded to the idea that Joey Fatone either built the landspeeder or Daniel Deutsch looked a lot like Joey Fatone) or take it down. He also reminded us each time that we used his image without permission. I updated the post twice to reflect that Deutsch and Fatone are two different people, but Deutsch asked that I remove the text because “that is not what people see when they skim headlines” and he’s “gotten emails asking about this even after the update.” So I’ve removed all the original text and retyped the post with this information, which has little to do with the actual Landspeeder itself.
Well crafted, Simon Noynay. Your $20 “Sith Abandon Ship” shirt brings a grin to my grizzled, weary face. If I was still in my early- to mid-twenties, I might be able to pull off wearing a shirt like this. Alas, I’m six months from 30 and will leave such tasks to a younger generation. Look at Vader! It’s almost as if the JOLT from the landing didn’t phase him at all except to get him excited to go down the big yellow slide. Hilarity!
The demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed is now on Xbox Live. The 900MB demo is available in all XBL regions, so people all over the world can enjoy the game.
You wanna take a wild guess as to what’s my least favorite movie franchise of all time? I just never “got” it, sorry.
Sometimes Star Wars can be just a little too PG; plus, some of the music is out dated. Word on the street is that Georgie Boy has a new special edition aimed at a younger generation and our man on the inside mangaged to grab a sneak peak. Two more clips after the jump.
io9 popped over to the Skyblazer Ranch for a little talkie talkie with George Lucas who made a movie series called Star Battles and is now making some follow-up films called the Coaln Wars. These movies should explore more of the character’s backgrounds including Darth “Anakin Skyblazer” Vander’s first assistant, some girl named Ahsoka, and the history of Jabra the Hunn’s family. The new film will be released on August 15, 2008 and may cause a ripple in the Energy, a force-like thing that surrounds us all thanks to the power of the Mitocatians. We at CG are very excited, even if we just want to find out if Darth Vander is really Lyle’s father.
You guys know my thoughts and feelings on trailers for any geek-related movies, so I can’t tell you anything about this trailer. But feel free to tell us what you think of it in comments.
One good idea. That’s all it takes. One. And then you can milk it forever, diluting the original source material until it is just a pale puddle worthy of no attention at all. Star Wars is going 3-D.
The original six episodes are getting yet another treatment as Jeffrey Katzenberg from DreamWorks Animations confirmed that George Lucas has the will and the way. Look for Lucasfilm to add to its already considerable portfolio of expertise as Star Wars, yet again is a driving vehicle to showcase their talent.
I guess that technically makes it two good ideas, with Star Wars feeding the second one, Lucasfilm. Oh, and of course the similarly fated Indiana Jones franchise. That was started off good too, before delving into a similar fate. Three. Three good ideas. I’m gonna stop counting now, and go watch Star Wars on Beta.
As far as we know and to THQ Wireless’ knowledge we’re the first with any sort of footage for the upcoming release of Star Wars: The Force Unleashed and here it is for all of you readers. It’s a very cool game and an ingenious way of using the touchscreen. The accelerometer is only used to switch gameplay from landscape to portrait at any time. It’s still a work in progress and won’t be released until September 16, but we didn’t notice any glitches. I can say without a doubt that this is going to be a hot, hot game for the iPhone/iPod platform. Enough yapping. Enjoy the video.
Here is a short film called “Jedi Gym” that’s part of Atom’s Star Wars Fan Movie Challenge. Some of you might find the film to be hilarious. Others might say something seemingly clever like “Hey, give me back that six minutes” or “Hey, you owe me six minutes” or “Hey, six minutes was how long this movie lasted and I feel that those six minutes weren’t worth it to me after all. I should have been studying or eating or attending to various workspace activities.” At any rate, I found amusing tidbits to be sprinkled throughout and I thought Darth Vader’s light saber effect toward the end of the movie was “impressive” for an indie flick. Please enjoy with my compliments.
Nintendo and Lucas Arts are releasing Lightsaber Stylus for the DS at the end of July. Star Wars fans will be able to buy a two pack featuring light up lightsapbers ($16.99) or a three pack of boring non-light up lightsabers ($7.99). One of the major downfalls of the stylus is you can not put it in the holder on the DS. That means you are most likely going to lose these things after one day. If you’re interested you can pre-order them on Amazon.com.
In late July, Japanese Star Wars geeks will be able to lay their hands on USB hubs shaped like R2-D2 and a Darth Vader bust. Both hubs stand about 15cm tall.
Both the R2-D2 and the Darth Vader bust come with 4 USB ports (USB 2.0) and feature lighting and sound effects. When the user pushes the action button, R2D2 says “Pi-pi-pi” and rotate his head. Darth Vader starts to breathe heavily and shake his head.
The USB hubs will be offered by Tokyo-based accessory maker Cube Works [JP] for $67 each. The company doesn’t officially talk about an international release but a lot of their products found their way outside Japan in the past, i.e. the humping USB dog.
Oh boy. This holiday season will find the cross section of Wii owners and Star Wars fans flailing their arms about in a state of motion-sensed euphoria with the release of “Clone Wars: Lightsaber Duels” by the same folks behind “Star Wars: The Force Unleashed,” Krome Studios (and LucasArts, of course).
The game is set during the Clone Wars era, so we won’t get to play with classic characters like Luke Skywalker and company, but there will be destructible environments and throwing objects around through the use of Force powers.
No hard and fast release date except for “this holiday season,” so let’s all be on our best behavior until then.
