Right off the bat, I feel the need to stress that this is a fan-made concept and really isn’t coming to TF2 – at least not anytime soon. But Valve liked the idea so much that it sent a nice letter showing appeciation at the work that went into it. Still, I want me a guard dog class in TF2. Woof! [via kotaku]
Team Fortress 2 has a huge following. And it should. It rocks. But it might be getting a tad stale to those that play it hours everyday. (me) That’s why developers crank out killer mods like these two.
The video above (might be NSFW – lots of up-skirt, panty shots) shows a nearly completed female Scout mod that will soon have everything from custom taunts to an appropriate voice. The video after the jump shows Sleuth, a clever mod available on www.team-viper.com servers where a spy can turn into a dispenser or sentry gun. Now where is that petition to have Valve release these officially… Read More
Oh man, these TF2 videos are great. This one could be the best as we hear the Spy’s true feelings about each class. He really hates the Pyro. And getting the Sniper’s piss thrown on him. I would hate that too.
The long-awaited update for scouts is hitting this week. In other news, I’ll be quitting Team Fortress 2 for about a month while you all get it out of your system. I enjoy killing scouts as much as the next guy (perhaps a little more), but I have no desire to be overwhelmed by them, or to play on a team of them. Sweet lord, no!
Here’s a fine way to spend that $10 you still have in your pocket after last night’s Crazy Night Out: Team Fortress 2 for $9.99 on Steam for the PC.
For the uninitiated, Team Fortress 2 is still the reason I have The Orange Box handy, despite the fact that it’s the lesser Xbox 360 version. Though, as you know, my patience for shooters has pretty much run out, TF2 is well worth any price you pay for it.
Over at TIGSource they’ve been running a “Bootleg Demakes” competition that I’ve been following, in which developers are to take a modern game and “demake” it into something old-school and awesome, kind of the opposite of what developers tend to do today. Here’s one standout (and complete) entry, Gang Garrison 2 — obviously based on TF2, but featuring the kind of great side-scroller multiplayer gameplay you might find in Soldat. Lots of images after the link. Read More
A lot of Xbox 360 owners have been pining over the lack of updates for Team Fortress 2 while PC owners have received them frequently and Kotaku is reporting that the wait is over. We’ll have to fork over a chunk of dough, but we’ll be munching on sandviches and the like shortly. Valve’s marketing director Doug Lombardi divulged that Valve didn’t want to push out meager updates if they were going to have to charge for them, so they’re rolling out a ginormous update for about $10. That’s what they’re aiming for, at least. No word on updates for PS3 owners, though.
Yes, it’s that time again. The Heavy update will be dropping a bunch of maps, unlockable weapons, and achievements, just like the Pyro and Medic updates before it. So! You can check out the mystery achievements here, but as I found out, the achievement image files are named according to the achievement’s requirements — “tf_heavy_kill_scouts.png” and so on. Click below for a screenshot of all of them and make with the names what you will!
You’re probably already in the know about this, but the big Pyro pack has arrived along with his/her achievements and unlockable weapons. The full update info is here, including this little gem:
Removed Soldier’s 40% damage reduction from his own rockets. Does not affect rocket jumps
Thank you Jesus. I look forward to a rash of self-destroying soldiers.
Also, in case you haven’t tried this excellent game, you can download it for free this weekend (starts Friday) and play as much as you want. I highly recommend it – it looks great on low-end hardware but it’s a good workout for a nice rig as well.
Valve is having another Team Fortress 2Free Weekend to celebrate the latest big map release and achievement/unlockable pack. What this means is you get to use a state-of-the-art digital distribution system to play a fantastic game all weekend, for free. It’s super easy and it’s a lot of fun. If you haven’t tried using Steam yet, you’re in for a treat. This is the future of content distribution – pushed updates, free media, and a library of games only a click away. Check it out already.
Don’t worry about being new to the game, there will be a surplus of medics healing up everyone they see, trying to get the new achievements. Now’s a great time to start.
