It’s not every day you find a watch that can feasibly kill a man. The Rogue Warrior Red Cell is just such a watch.
The watch, designed by Richard “Dick” Marcinko AKA the Rogue Warrior, chairman of Red Cell International Corp., a security consulting firm. Mr. Marcinko (you call this guy “Mister” and “Sir”) has a Silver Star, Bronze Star with Combat, and founded SEAL Team SIX, the Navy’s counter terrorist command and Red Cell, a group that could… heck. I’ll just paste this from his website:
I am a huge Nooka watch fan and and it’s fun to see what they’ve been up to lately, especially on the marketing front. This little video features the new Nooka mascot, a wee fellow who looks like some kind of Chinese mooncake god.
I’m going to apologize in advance for this review. There are some who may be offended by its content in that I am discussing, in relative depth, an erotic watch of the type made popular by randy potentates in the 18th and 19th centuries along with one aspect that I find utterly vile and revolting. It is important to state that I do not condone this aspect of the watch and I find it highly offensive to boot.
The bile is rising even as I write this, friends, for this $34 watch from eBay advertises itself as a tourbillon yet is as far from a tourbillon as humanly possible. If tourbillon were the sun and this watch were a meteorite, the meteorite would be five million light years from the sun. And exploded already. And in little pieces in some distant star field. That’s how distant this is from a tourbillon.
Note: This review heads over to my watch review site, WWR. It’s also fairly NSFW.
Our boy Ariel at ABlogToRead reviewed this monstrous LUM-TEC LUMzilla automatic, a huge watch with huge hands and numerals. The watches run in the $600 range and have Japanese automatic movements. They’re 50mm which makes them a little hefty for most men – heck, this would look big on the bucket of a ditch digger – but it looks like a good deal for a watch that makes a statement.*
Man alive: look at this monster. It’s the DualTow watch by Cristophe Claret. This watch has a single-pusher chronograph and striking mechanism to chime when you activate the chronograph. The coolest additions are the two belt displays showing the hours and minutes. Then you’ve got a tourbillon to round things out.
It’s a manual-wind movement with 50-hour reserve and only 68 will be made. Read More
Diesel, what were you thinking? Admittedly you don’t make the prettiest watches around, but I find it amazing that you are responsible for this abomination. This is like trying to cross an elephant with a pig, it might seem like a good idea (so much bacon!), but no good can come from it.
Debaufre, a watch company that uses great movements inside cool cases, has redone their line to reflect a more personal touch – a great move considering their Aviator-8s were just on the edge of copyright infringement. The new models have a curved case with a different, more attractive marker font and come in all of the Aircraft-8 colors. The new models also have an exhibition back and run a hand-wind Unitas movement.
Citizen in Japan announced the I VIRT M [JP], a new model in their series of Bluetooth watches that so far are available in Japan only. I am not sure if this is something many people anywhere would want, but the watches make it possible for users to interact with their cell phones.
Not content with making me happy with their GMT, Bell&Ross has just released this weird piece for Colette, some sort of artsy shop in Paris. This is some kind of tribute to Airborne Rangers, I suspect, with a little skull and two sword hands. Not sure how much it would cost in Earth money but I’m willing to bet a few grand.
Inspired by the 44th President of the United States of America, Casio and LRG have once again come together to collaborate on the LRG X G-Shock.
“This watch was inspired by Obama blue. This is a color that symbolizes hope. L-R-G, G-Shock and Obama are all a sign of the times, pun intended,” said Jonas Bevacqua, Co-Founder and Creative Director, L-R-G.
Who says mom doesn’t appreciate a nice time piece too. Just in time for Mother’s Day, Watchismo is offering 20% off all of their ladies wrist watches. Browsing their catalog, it looks like there’s something there for pretty much anyone, and what better way to show Mom just how much you care? There’s even a handy guide on their site that’ll show you which shipping to pay for to make sure the watch you choose gets there in time to show mom how much you love her.
The Lange 1 Time Zone is a beautiful multi-timezone piece made by A. Lange and Söhne (pronounced “A Langa and Zunna”) that shows multiple timezones around its inside bezel. Most interestingly, however, are how they are handling Hugo Chavez’ delightful new time zone, UTC-4:30, which was introduced to allow for more sunlight in Chavez’s benighted land.
Not much to tell about the Seiko “Drum” except that it had a built-in drum machine for those so enthusiastic about the manufacture of hot 1980s beats that they couldn’t wait to get home to the 808. Read More
Finally, a B&R I can stand behind. I love B&R. I love GMTs. This is like two great tastes that taste great together.
This new model is a bog standard GMT with a stationary central bezel – which means you can’t change the 24-hour markings – and a movement that will move the hour hand back and forth to show the local time as well as the time at home.
This year marks the 25th Anniversary of the Surfrider Foundation and to celebrate they’ve teamed up with Casio for a limited edition G-Shock that’s dropping this summer. The G5500SRF-1 aka X Surfrider Foundation collaboration watch looks like the standard G-Shock model, but it’s a Tough Solar variant with the Surfrider logo in the background. Look for it in July with a #130 price tag. A portion of the proceeds goes towards the foundation to help them protect our oceans and coastlines.
The good men at Professional Watches got some face time with Concords strange and magical C1 complete with liquid nanotechnology power reserve.
This thing is nuts. While I appreciate the dedication to unique design and engineering, I still can’t see where Concord is going with this. The watch is nigh on unwearable, as we see from the video, but hopefully they’ll be able to move some of these techniques to actual production models a la Tag Heuer’s latest manufacture movement.
Two Forerunner updates to the 405 and the 305 add improved calorie and heartrate monitoring systems to an already impressive set of features. The 405 is my favorite workout watch. It picks up GPS signals in a few seconds. The update adds “comfort” and a more accurate heartrate measuring system to the watch.
Using algorithms developed by exercise scientists and world-class athletes, Forerunner 405CX monitors the micro changes in a user’s heart rate and uses that detailed information to better calculate the number of calories burned during aerobic activity. Whether out running, on a bike, in step class or on a hike, Forerunner 405CX users will get instant gratification as they see the results of their hard work. And those workouts will be more comfortable than ever, as users will have the choice of two additional form-fitting bands to accommodate large and small wrists alike. At only 60 grams and available in a new deep blue color, Forerunner 405CX fits in at the gym or around the office.
The 310CX also gets an upgrade in sensitivity. Read on for full press releases.
It seems Watchismo has a full complement of Quicksilver auto watches lying around for your consumption and he’s selling them at $98, 42% off list. This watch, called the Copper Baron, has a 45mm wide stainless steel case with screw down crown, mineral crystal, and 10ATM water resistance. It even has a little date window and sub-seconds at 9 o’clock.
